I love all the blog era rappers. Such a special crop of rappers. Kendrick, Cole, Wale, Gambino, Chance, Big Sean, A$AP Rocky, Joey Bada$$, Tyler, Mac Miller, Logic (yes I liked his mixtapes and first album), Big KRIT... etc. So much talent and even uniqueness in that era of rap.

Hell of an era…2008-2010 was the paradigm shift in hip hop…everyone you mentioned paved the way of how new artists could blow up without industry backing…DIY…using blogs and social platforms to market themselves, to the point where labels took notice, to not only that group…but how they would find talent going forward…now it’s industry standard for A&Rs to find artists by going on IG today.

so the original insightment of the beef is a bit complex I think, This is America began as a diss, CG told us that, and if you look at it sideways maybe there's some sneak dissin goin on. but I do believe him that it really isn't and the project took on a meaning beyond beef once he began to actually write the song.
And the 'beef' was probably just some rap shit, exhibition in the game and all that.
problem is Drake took offense to This is America outshining one of his projects, because he's a bitch. so at concerts he called the track overrated. And I feel like that's really where Donald Glover began to actually hate his fake ass.
