Thanks for including us pond fisherman !!! I mainly fish in the ponds of residential sub divisions. Keep up the great work !!! My favorite channel. Wish the TB gear came in 4 XL !!!!
Could listin to the knowledge drop for days my man seriously can’t thank you enough for the NEW fresh uploads every time spring will be here before we know it !
You got the champ back! I’d love to see an update on all the work you had done to it and maybe an updated boat tour. Also I just got a boat so a video on filling up a bass boat with what you need to have would be helpful. My lakes are frozen so I’ll use these tips in a month or two.
Can’t wait to catch some bass through the ice! I love open water but ice fishing just hits different. Thanks to you, I caught my PB smallmouth and Largemouth last year!
I've had the best winter ever ,for me, so far. Followed a lot of what TB is telling us. Tennessee River fish stay shallower than you would expect though. Thanks for all the help TB. Rapala Maverick jerkbait is all I'm saying😅
I caught 2 fish at once on an xrap 6(I think). It only has two trebles. Favorite jerkbait is the Jackall Rearranger or the Lucky Craft Pointer SP though.
Love the info! I do wish you could expand a little on the pond stuff. As in how do we know where the deepest spot is, or how do we know where cover is etc etc. since we aren’t scanning it with electronics.
Thank you for this classic and comprehensive primer on structure fishing. You had me nodding in agreement as you built up my knowledge and understanding with additional wow knowledge. I’m pumped up! Now if I can just find ways to stay reasonably warm!
I use all that knowledge you just shared but just thru the ice, those fish will sit right on bottom, and I usually use a blade bait right over their heads, you can see them right to it and bam!
You guys are awesome, I've watched a ton of your older videos and also your Dave mercer interview. It's amazing to hear your background stories and how you've evolved the channel. Always looking forward to the great content!! Thanks again guys, can't wait to catch even more greenbacks!!!
I live right by a Lake Erie tributary called the Black River. I always see alot of videos talking about lakes, ponds and reservoirs ect. Where do the bass go in a river? I stopped catching bass after it hit 49 degrees. Before that I was still catching them daily. They were chasing shad and I was having luck on crankbaits, flukes and poppers but then they just stopped biting after a cold front and I never caught another. Do they head out into Lake Erie? Most fishermen here switch to steelhead in the rivers when its colder.
In low land reservoirs like Lake o the Pines in east Texas, they will be in the main channels when temps drop. Only a few buck bass will be on the flats. They will follow bait balls with catfish and crappie. If you aint livescoping you are hoping. This is fact. Better be throwing an A rig. They aint bitin nuthin else
Blade bait hook upgrade question: for the Damiki Vault, you specified sz 6 Owner stx-38s in one video. Tim specified size 8 in another video. I ordered the 8's, but they seem TINY. Personal preference? Typo??
Will fish go deep this time of year if the water is 1-2 feet visibility! My lake has a lot of good looking ledges and drains that are 30 feet deep and the water rarely is more than 2 feet of visibility
Can someone please explain to me the difference between a highland reservoir and a lowland reservoir? What are characteristics that highland reservoirs have that lowland reservoirs do not have, and vice versa? I’m not sure which type my lake might be. Any help would be appreciated!
Bought me a Micro Flex precisely FOR late winter but need to wait for Michigan's ice-out. Most of your mini/micro flex videos, you guys are using small/light heads. How heavy can/should I go with the mini/micro jigheads, to get to the deep, late-winter bass? (guessing, need to get down to the 20-30' range)
The mini is a full-wire rig. Meaning, you can throw 3/4 ounce if you want. The micro is lighter wire... I probably wouldn't go above 3/8 oz on the center wire only.
Hey Matt or anyone in the know, can you explain how you get the maps of the lake you are showing in this video? Is it the Navionics app? A chip? I’m trying to get the map for Lake Sonoma in Healdsburg CA. Any help is appreciated. Thanks 😎👍🏻👍🏻
Hey Matt, I have a question. I’m getting a baitcaster but I’m stuck between getting a 7’5 heavy for frogging and heavier jigs/t-rigs. Or a 6’10 medium moderate for jerkbaits cranks and maybe weightless stick baits every now and then. What one do you think I should get. I have only one other bait caster that’s 7,3 mh and I live in upstate ny. Any help from anyone else is appreciated too
Consider what/where do you fish most? Personally I enjoy throwing jerks and cranks and treble hook baits and I did buy a dedicated setup but I rarely use it just because most of my fishing opportunities are bank fishing small lakes and ponds that are typically vegetation heavy and are better suited to other techniques. So go for the one you’ll get the most use out of based on where you usually get to fish. Other than that flip a coin. Good luck!
Is there any benefit to running 5 hooks on an A-rig? I’m in North Carolina and the regulations allow for 5 hooks. I know you guys tend to run 3. Just wondering if it would up my chances at doubles or even a triple.
I don’t think it makes a difference. They either bite the bottom two or the back one 99.99999 percent of the time. So if you buy a three wire rig just run three and I’m confident you won’t miss any fish. 👍🏻
I base my true winter time fishing off if Matt's wearing flip-flops or not. Flip-flops = burn burn pause
Boots=Ned rig 😆
Underrated comment hahahaha

Matt Allen is the greatest teacher of winter Bass fishing on the planet! Do what he says, you'll slay them.
Couldn't agree more!!! Before Matt I use to just throw the rods in the garage and wait for the first break in weather.. now I fish til we ice over😂
@@antoniodemetrius it turned it into my favorite time of year, showed me how truly electric Bass fishing could be. Matt Allen til I die 😆
Love your dedication to the craft! Long time viewer but somehow you keep finding a way to maintain my attention!

Just received my hog farmer Mirco A-Rig... can't wait to throw it this weekend!!!! Thanks TB you guys never disappoint!!!!

Great bibs, gloves and a gortex jacket will help you keep your mind on fishing. being cold makes it much harder to fish and relax.
So far, you really are the G.O.A.T.
That was awesome thanks Matt!

I totally agree being on the lake in the fall everybody's watching football or hunting like you said it's like being on a private lake so true
Good stuff Matt well done

Matts on his champ agin too. Very cool
Great video guys. Can't wait to get out and try out the mini A-Rig

When were they on Mercer?
Roughly 2 year or so ago
I wish I could fish for bass mid winter. They’re closed around here now. But, since it’s -31 Celsius with the windchill. I’m okay with it. 😂
Love the content
You guys do an amazing job. Would love to see you though"s on some of berkeley's new kerj and the finisher.

We only winter fish for bass. I think ive fished maybe 10 warm days haha. Usually were in the salt but im buying a jon boat this year for candlewood
I think cold is the best for the big fish
What if there is a floating dock structure over 40 feet of water? Would fish still relate to it?
Believe I will go on a warming trend😅
Any tips on catching bass from shore in the north before ice and also after ice?
Blade bait hook upgrade question: for the Damiki Vault, you specified sz 6 Owner stx-38s in one video. Tim specified size 8 in another video. I ordered the 8's, but they seem TINY. Personal preference? Typo??
I mostly fish lakes but there’s this pond close by in Oakdale that is so over run by vegetation, it’s almost impossible to fish in the winter.
For my small lake, would bass be close to the last of the dying plants or chunk rock? Both areas have deep water close by.
My guess would be that chunk rock, it absorbs heat and provides some structure. Issue with dying vegetation is the it lets off gasses.
Chunk rock. Lower oxygenation with the dying plants.
Will fish go deep this time of year if the water is 1-2 feet visibility! My lake has a lot of good looking ledges and drains that are 30 feet deep and the water rarely is more than 2 feet of visibility

Get the 6'10" Med Moderate...it will allow for more flexibility in combo with your 7'3" MH...IMHO.

The more hooks the higher the odds. Due to state regulations many of us are limited to two or three hooks.
I don’t think it makes a difference. They either bite the bottom two or the back one 99.99999 percent of the time. So if you buy a three wire rig just run three and I’m confident you won’t miss any fish. 👍🏻
Do I see a Champion in this one!?
Ohio bass shut it down in the middle of winter...signs all over the lakes "Do not disturb..See you in March"
Pond fishing is like hunting a fenced in deer. No challenge and most will bite anything.
