It was an excellent movie. I would have preferred seeing more of her spirituality.

I saw the movie and I admire Mother Cabrini as I admire Mother Theresa of Calcutta and Mother Seton. What I admire about them is that they are such courageous and strong women because of their faith and surrender to God's holy will for them. I definitely agree that it was a great movie about a great lady who was doing the will of our Almighty God. The prayer aspect of Mother Cabrini was sorely missing. I like the EWTN version of her life better. May God bless you all❤

My friend and I watched Cabrini and we were both inspired by this dynamic woman who brought orphanages and hospitals to the poor all over the world.
I'd been told ahead of time that they didn't show Cabrini's interior life as much as some would've preferred. However, they did tell the story of a nun who wanted to bring care for the poor to the whole world and even went to China and the middle East and many other non Christian countries. She was a woman who didn't let all the naysayers and No's stop her from doing good.
A couple years ago, I watched a documentary once about Iran (or was it Iraq?). The women were not allowed to see male doctors and woman were blocked getting educated and becoming doctors so there was no one for them to go to...except a group of catholic nuns who were doctors and nurses bringing Healthcare to the poor women in that country.
According to some of the comments I read, they accused mother Cabrini of being disobedient to the church for going around the clergy, or Archbishop who sometimes said no to her plans. Well she went to the pope when they told her no. She always obeyed the pope.
Also, some comments on this thread claim she was a feminist. Why? Because she loved the poor and wanted to establish hospitals where the poor would get the same treatment as the Americans? A feminist is someone looks down on women's traditional roles.. mother Cabrini wanted to take care of orphans ( that's pretty traditional) and build hospitals for the poor who weren't allowed in the regular hospitals for being Italian and too browned skinned. I think some commenter are intimidated by a dynamic woman who didn't let the someone's "No!" stop her. She was a mama bear! She had to fight against the system to be allowed to do good works That's not feminist or disobedient. That's a traditional mama bear who loved God's disenfranchised poor! She's a woman who took care of her poor neighbors!

You purposely left our Mother Cabrini's spiritual walk her prayers on her knees prayers in communion with her Sisters, the Sacraments. Beautiful movie that left the most important part out. She would have been on her knees at every turn and especially at every challenge. Very disappointing.

Spiritual works are certainly important, but not the "most important part." Corporal works of mercy are a pillar of our Faith and are *equally* as important. Jesus taught this truth in Matthew 25, and St. James declared, "Faith without works is dead."
I agree the film could have at least shown Mother's hands folded in prayer at certain points.
But this film exquisitely tells the story of Mother Cabrini's perseverance in her corporal works of mercy. I was deeply moved by the story.

@janeyount8412 As a Nun and Saint they did not portray her accurately. She only did this through much prayer. Spiritual work is as important.

I totally agree. Her strength came from Christ and her deep relationship with Our Lord. This was not well portrayed in the movie. I was disappointed to not see her spiritual life - her prayer life, reception of the Holy Sacrament, etc. No one can do what she and the Sisters did without God’s grace and strength. This grace only comes from a deep personal relationship with God. She served Our Lord in serving His people. An act of true humility. I felt the movie portrayed her as a strong woman without emphasizing that this strength only comes from Our Lord. That being said, I did enjoy the movie and this is my only critique of it. It was well done otherwise.

      The Elephant in the room.
Imagine a movie about Hitler who received two medals for bravery in WWI. He was even Times ‘Man of the Year’ in 1938. Imagine the movie only pointing out that which made him Times choice. Imagine the person who never heard of Hitler watching a movie about him. We can only hope people pick up a book to fill in the blanks.
I saw Cabrini opening day. Did not read or listen to any reviews prior. My thoughts, when it was over, is of a tenacious feminist emasculating men while doing great things. Nothing about her devotion to the Sacred Heart. Could not a FEW seconds of a Devine moment be peppered throughout the movie that gives honor to her devotion to Jesus and His guidance throughout her mission.
SHE IS A CATHOLIC SAINT!!! You don’t become a saint by being a tenacious feminist emasculating men. The men were portrayed as weak, mean, disinterested toward her cause. Pope Leo XIII, one of our great popes, faired a little better.
In all things give Glory to God. She did, this movie did not.
The movie opens on International Women’s Day. Her last comment at the end is what the feminist say. Maybe here is where they could have captured how the Devine worked in her life to be a tenacious women in a man’s world.
      Devine power not women power.
Well, the movie did do a great job in all ‘Cabrini’ did. Little girls will think it’s OK to be tenacious towards men/authority for their cause whatever it may be (as though we don’t have enough of that already in a Godless society). Read some, a lot!, of the comment on any of the Cabrini social sites to find how this movie was interpreted … Women power!!
This movie should receive an Oscar(s) for its superb cinematography and acting. I’ll give it that. But, let’s not merge the beauty of the film to mask what was woefully missing.
Executive producer, Eustace Wolfington, said in an interview, when referring to Cabrini, “A strong women who just happened to be a nun”.
Just happened to be a nun!!
      Disappointing.
“I will go anywhere and do anything in order to communicate the love of Jesus to those who do not know Him or have forgotten Him.” Mother Cabrini
I don’t feel this movie did Mother Cabrini justice.

I can’t understand the criticism of people about the lack of spirituality portrayed in this movie; this is totally absurd; Mother’s actions were in direct response to her faith. Thank you for a beautiful portrayal of Mother Cabrini.

In this post-Christian, anti-Catholic culture, an in-your-face Catholic movie wouldn't fly.
I was deeply moved by the Cabrini movie, despite it not overtly portraying pius Catholic practices - but Catholicism is MUCH MORE than piety and prayer, is it not? Are not corporal works of mercy also a pillar of our Faith? This movie exquisitely portrays Mother Cabrini's perseverance in doing the good works that the Lord called her to do. Catholic Social Teaching is not to be confused with neo-marxist "social justice." This movie poignantly displays the former.
As for Pope Leo XIII, I loved that he was portrayed as gentle and wise, convincing Mother Cabrini to minister to the immigrants in America instead of China. He shortly thereafter sent many more missionary priests, monks, and nuns to America.
In his famous 1891 encyclical Rerum novarum, he laid the foundation for Catholic Social Teaching, outlining the rights of workers to a fair wage, safe working conditions, and the formation of trade unions, while affirming free enterprise. While he was known as the "Pope of the Rosary," with that encyclical, he became popularly titled the "Social Pope" and the "Pope of the Workers."

I saw the movie with my daughters. It was a great movie. I wanted my girls to see how those who came before us were treated and to never treat others the same way. I was very disappointed with the lack of Catholic spirituality in the movie, however. I am sure the director was trying to make this movie accessible to a secular audience as well, but it would have been a powerful message to show that God works through our weakness.

Yeah, I was a bit dismayed about every man, including the newspaper writer Calloway, as an egotistical power hungry misogynist. The cheesy line when she said me can't do what women do....irked me.
    BUT....
I do tend to believe and hope that the movie made an accurate portrayal of her obstacles. For instance did the men really stand in her way like that? Did the Pope reluctantly give her this mission? Did the mayor of New York really do those things like the arrest? If so and that's a big IF, then it was a great message.
IF it was very INACCUARTE with the portrayals of all the men in the movie that set up these obstacles then it would be a women's lib movement message that would bother me.
I am personally hoping the former cause I was moved. The power of the message of PERSERVERING TILL THE END is a strong one.
The fact that even though her faith weakened after ALL THE SETBACKS, she persevered. Then the movie at the end revealed the fruits that came out. The canonization, the vast number of hospitals worldwide, meant that God indeed blessed that perseverance.
Look, with this sad pathetic porn filled blasphemous world we are in its a nice breath of fresh air to get something like this.
The HOPE is that people will now dig into the true Ssint Cabrini and find out about her prayer life.
You make good points and felt somewhat the same way, but the fact they ended it by showing the ripe fruits overshadows the things that concerned me.

Shameful for St. Cabrini.
