American sport is a difficult testbed for away/home support because there's not much in the way of travelling support. The hockey example was Detroit Vs Vancouver - a distance of 2,500 miles. I'm guessing the Vancouver supporters in attendance probably were local to Michigan instead. Sure there are local games - Rangers Vs Islanders for example - but they are rare. I've been to rugby, ice hockey and cricket matches in the UK - mixed crowds and a lovely atmosphere. I have also been to some football matches with segregation and there was violence - on one occasion at a preseason game between Peterborough and Celtic, inexplicably. It's a minority of games, but it's there. It's a real shame as I want to take my sons to football matches but I don't want to expose them to that rubbish.
Great pod again, love them. I saw Sister Bliss being interviewed a little while ago, promoting new tour. She made a fascinating point about the change in footie crowds in the late 80'/90's. That being in influx of ecstasy. The same blokes that were fighting, were now loved up in the clubs on a Friday/Saturday night. By the end of the 90's, coke had taken over in the clubs & stands.
I’m still trying to find the S4C footage of Neath Vs Newport in 2001, where the cameraman was fixated on the section with me and my dad after every break of play and filmed us. Then the Newport fan in front of us was annoyed at this and just shoved a middle finger up in plain view for 10-15 seconds and the cameraman left. My VHS was destroyed and I’m gutted mainly because that’s the most time this mug has been on tele
What they were doing was actually showing Detroit fans and then showing away fans in Vancouver's kits, hence the booing..they weren't booing the crowd, rather booing the away fans. The director realized that the fan reaction to the kid was so strong they stayed on him rather than showing other home (Detroit) fans.

They just stayed on the kid because it was a cool moment and the crowd loved it. Not uncommon at a Detroit game for them to show away fans to be booed
Rangers v Celtic at Hampden should be the test event.

Mike doesn't get football. He actually calls it soccer 😂😂😂
In Britian we would boo the kid! 😂
and rightly so.
Who’s the wanker… who’s the wanker… who’s the wanker with the bowl cut over there!

Imagine Elis not knowing. There’s no away fans at the old firm game after all he knows where the Falkland Islands are 😂😜
