This is so inspirational to see a beautiful black woman like yourself doing something that I’m dreaming and striving for. I’m so glad I found your channel!
Welcome, Brittany! Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching!
Facts!! ✊🏾 👑
Thank you for putting up videos because I am a week away from my BSN and i plan to start my NP program mid to end of next year so keep putting up videos. Love to see our people doing big things 🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹
That's awesome!
Are you going to consider working to get some clinical experience?
rlouis215 omg congratulations 🎊🍾
Yes... 🇭🇹🇭🇹
OMG didn't know she was Haitian yay
Congrats! You got this!
OoOoOh i want that necklace !!!!
I just bought one and my first time wearing it it broke ! So cute though
Me too. It was the 1st thing that caught my eye
more like a-flutter lol
My dream job😫😫
You can do it girl!
Go get it!
Make it happen girl
Blessings Phiri you can do anything you want !!
I absolutely love how you go over the patient cases! Most of the doctor/medical staff people I watch just talk about what happened! It really, really love it! Thanks so much!
Also just wanted to say I love how your beaming with confidence as an NP. I can already see how much you've grown since your first day. Keep up the good work.
I’m graduating in May with my BSN, God willing and I’m so happy to come across your channel. Black, beautiful and educated. Can’t wait to become an NP
I'm an NP and love this ,critical thinking is necessary in nursing.
It is so necessary! This is what separates the basic from the exceptional NPs.
GOALS! I know I have a long way to go but I’ll get there 😊 thank you for being such and inspiration and btw, you’re absolutely stunning 😍
thank you for these kind words!
my goal is to become a nurse practitioner in dermatology
Thank you so much for this. I’m still in nursing school but I do have plans of furthering my education in a year for the FNP role. I couldn’t decide between ACNP and FNP due to the lack of shadowing and videos not being meticulously filmed. Your videos are very helpful and in depth.
Thank you for this video! In NP school now and will be done next semester. I love hearing details about the typical day in the life of an NP
Tina Sky
How long did your schooling take?
You don’t understand how much I’m struggling in college right now 😭 please tell me your best advice to study and how u stayed motivated please
dinor Y hows is going so far
Idk if you’re In nursing school or not but I just imagine all of the younger nurses who are working on the unit alongside me in clinicals. These nurses have all done the same degree as I have and are now working full time.
I guess what I mean is that I visualize the future and focus on the work that will be. And think about how many people have gone down the same path successfully! If they can do it then so can you.
yeet skeet I swear I just imagine the end goal
I'm an accounting major, but I used to be a nursing major and I couldn't hang lol. The work for me was too overwhelming so I applaud you for doing what you do! You are very smart and beautiful!
Hey Kim!! I work as a medical assistant on my way to becoming a PA.. When you were talking about patient meds ... I know what you mean, a lot of our providers at the clinic where I work have nurses go in with pt first to do “med reconciliation” to see what they are still taking. It makes it so much easier. Anyway, awesome content! Thank you for sharing! 🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹
Johana Pierremont was just looking through the comments. :) I’m in PA school now :) if you have any questions you can find me on Instagram and message me. I love helping people. It’s @lisafellis
@@MHSMagicLuver Hey Lisa! So kind of you to reach out. I just sent you a message there. I'd love to get your help. Thank you. @jojo4PA
Mandy devers not true at all. We are growing at a rate of 37%.. we are getting more and more known and respected. So.. no thanks.. and you could learn how to spell as well before saying untrue things. :)
Mandy devers I am so pleased I have the opportunity to inform you that you could not be more wrong. As an MA, I work with PA’s, NP’s, MD’s and DO’s on a daily basis and I get to see how much each individual provider contributes to the team overall. Like Lisa said... The job outlook is at a >30% high and increasing so if I were you I’d do my research before typing such an ignorant little comment.
Johana Pierremont thank you. :) I’m proud to be a PA student and my future looks bright :) in 2 weeks I’ll be introduced to suturing at a convention so I’m excited about that.
YES!! Finally you posted. The reason i'm going back to school for my RN
Me too! I start fall 2019!
I'm in high school and have been wanting to be a NP for a while now and this video helped me a lot! Thank you!
p.s- you're super pretty like omg
Nice to see you're doing well I look up to you because my experience in the medical field is on the opposite side of what yours is I'm a dialysis patient on my side.... and let me be honest with you it is a complete struggle for me to try to maintain my health being on dialysis being a mountainbiker and trying to find compromise between all of it I definitely appreciate you and what you do I'd be lost without my nurse's and Support team of drs.
Keep up the good work !!!
Thank you for putting your video out there you motivated me to go back to school I always wanted to do echocardiogram but I was too afraid and I wouldn't succeed but seeing so many of you wonderful nurses with these TH-cam videos my dream is actually going to become a reality I'm really thinking about going back next year.
Please keep make more of these videos you dont know how helpful they are just hearing your workin through the process and just help show how to critically think
Could you do this weekly or monthly its so so helpful
Thank you for a view in being an NP 🙏🏾
you were talking to us as if we were your colleague. i love it.
I loved this sooooooo much.. I’m an RN 10 plus years but worked in places that were so busy my clinical skills and critical thinking were stifled .. so I’m terrified that I won’t make it through NP school muchless working as one . But this is so enlightening .. doesn’t remove all my fears but motivates me ! Thank you for this . I def can see me doing this casual part time .
Hey! I'm a freshman in college and I'm currently looking for careers and was thinking about becoming a nurse practitioner and thank you for the video, it was very helpful and I love your personality.
Thank you for watching
Great Video. This Came Up Randomly. You Are Very Thorough, To The Point, and Easy Going; Your Patients Should Be Lucky To Have You! Thanks For Sharing, Best Of Luck With Your Career & Life.
Hello Kim, I just started following you. I have been working in the medical field for over 30 years after working in ER a few days ago as a tech I was talking to one of the NP I told her my story about how long I been doing CNA work after talking with her she said I needed to go back to school and get my RN and think about looking into becoming a NP....
My age is 52 what is your thoughts on this....
R LOVE i think you’re extremely courageous for even considering furthering your education, and you’re not the only person whose had this type of conversation with me. So long as you have two things: breath in your lungs and true desire/ drive, it is NEVER too late to pursue anything.
You’ve got my vote.
Thank you so much... I will be a faithful follower keep posting your videos... Be blessed.
Also.. not taking away from NPs but if you have a bachelors degree in anything you can become a PA and wouldn’t have to go through nursing school first. We have a guy about your age in my class this semester.
R LOVE - I’m about to start a TH-cam channel about doing just that. LVN to RN bridge!!
Thank you for this video. I am looking forward to becoming a Nurse Practitioner one day, and this video gives me some ideas on what it's all about!
Being an FNP opens up doors to so many possibilities and career paths! Nursing in general is such a versatile field and you’ll enjoy reaping the benefits! I have a channel on here where I chronicle my day as a nurse practitioner and even tips to get you through FNP school. It’s definitely worth it!
How old where you when you became a np?
Wow this is an amazing video. Thank you for showing us the REAL life and work of an NP, and for bringing us in with all the details. I really felt like I was there shadowing you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m still trying to decide my path with PA school and nursing school. Seeing women like you post videos about the profession and “a day in the life of” is very helpful! It’s very encouraging also seeing people who’ve done it before me. It helps me feel like it’s definitely achievable
Queen Nee if you have any questions on PA you can add me on Instagram @lisafellis and message me. Just started my third semester. :)
Wow amazing work you do. Keep up the good work. You are my motivation. Currently Im doing the lvn (lpn) program, I want to do the lvn to bsn and soon after that get a masters in nursing.
Thank you for making this video! It's interesting to hear about your day as an NP. Loved it.
Thank you, Christina!
Was confused for a second. I was like isn’t lisinopril for HTN? Then you corrected it. In PA school now so it’s cool to actually understand that.
Good service is hard to come by. Thank you for going above and beyond.
Thank you for really covering some of your job in this video! The other videos I have seen spend more time on morning routines than the job itself.
Your passion comes thru in this video!
thank you Amanda
This was really good! I liked to hear the patient scenarios
This was so helpful! I am currently working as a bedside nurse and have been strongly considering applying for NP school. I don't know many people that are doing it so this helped shed some light on what types of things NPs do in clinics.
Thank you for this thorough breakdown. Would you recommend a new nurse's first job to be at a clinic?
You are such a queen. 💖
Everything about her is maddddd beautiful (inside and out).
Thank you 😊😊
This is my first time watching a video of yours and i love it! This is what I've been looking for. I really liked that you went into detail with every patient. It really helps for those of us who are stuck between careers. Subscribed!
Thank you for this blog. This provides great insight into being a NP 😊
Loved this video! I am in the process of applying to an accelerated FNP program so this was very insightful. Also, I love your necklace - please share the deets:)
Yes! Check out @gracefulmedboutique on IG
@@KiimKash Thanks!
Have you thought about working in urgent care they may have 12hr shifts for NPs and more hands on procedures faster pace than primary care
Actually Christine, I never considered urgent care nor did any research about it. I will definitely keep it in mind.
Yess girl get you some Jamaican food!. I hope you enjoyed for the both of us
Thank you for posting. I am Haitian too and I accidentally stumbled across your videos. I am about to start my MSN in January 2019 and I am a bit nervous. I don't know exactly where I want it to take me because I am looking for a field that's less stressful.
Great video. Well done. And very informative. Can you do a video explaining more about your decision to continue bedside nursing and then work as a np in the clinic setting? Thank you.
I loved your video!! I am still an FNP student but I am looking forward to finishing and you really inspired me!
I still don't know if I should go the Np or PA route, what would say would be a good decider on which way I should go?
i really wanna do this with my life but i feel like i make to many mistakes 😞or. not smart enough
Dont be down on yourself. You are capable of anything. Just be consistent in your efforts and take things one step at a time.
All that you can do is try. Mistakes are just a learning opportunity! I think the biggest mostake ever is not to try: you'd be surprised at what you can accomplish
In my opinion, there is no profession that is unattainable. If you really want something and work hard for it, then you can be ANYTHING you want to be! It may take a while and you will get overwhelmed but the best advice is to not give up on reaching your goal to become an NP. Unfortunately, I was unable to be admitted to a BSN program so I plan on going for a secondary BSN after I finish college and then I will go for my MSN. It'll almost be the length of medical school by the time I'm finished but I WILL reach my goal!
Work hard and believe in yourself. When you do that, anything is possible
I’m going to school currently for my Associate Degree as a Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist after I work for a couple of years I will be going to Undergraduate school so that I can apply to PA School. I’m basically taking thing stead and carefully. I now live in Charlotte NC . My question is what city and state are you practicing in and did you go into medical school straight out of high school ? Did you get any scholarships or internship?
Glad to see another NP VLOG!!! I just recently started my own journey to ACNP channel!!!
Love this type of video. I hope you will do more of these videos in the future. Thank you for taking the time to educate us. Have a wonderful day and weekend.
Do you wish you could be an NP full time?
Love your content I'm in my last term for nutrition amd dietetics bc I love nutrition but my long term goal is to become a nurse practitioner or physician. So I love that you are looking at vitamins so many can cause hair loss as well as food drug interactions that people don't think to look at.
Great channel:) I see the passion in your soul for this field girl you go!
Thanks for this video.I just started my clinicals. It helped me to get an idea how to check on patient’s and their cases.please do more videos like this 👍🏻
How much schooling did you have to go through to become a nurse practitioner, and what was your GPA when you graduated high school?
So you are able to work as an RN as well as do your per diem FNP? I have been curious about this as I have been an RN in acute care for 4 years but am interested in getting my NP, though I don't know if I'm ready to step away from bedside nursing just yet. Thanks for sharing your experience!
This is a great VLOG! Thanks for being so detailed!
This was so helpful and super informative. I think one of my biggest dilemma with becoming and NP was that I would kind of be thrust into the position with all of it’s responsibilities without gaining all the proper training and know-how experience that comes with working in a hospital and with patients and learning more. I think I always feel more comfortable the more I know and as of now, in my current situation, I don’t feel like I know as much as I would like to know to be confident enough to give the kind of care I want to be able to give to my patients. Tell me, is it possible to work as an NP part-time like you mentioned in your video while still working as an RN to gain skills and knowledge you can then apply to being an NP?
Im on my second year of nursing school and can’t wait to be an NP
Girl I am not even interested in nursing but I came across your video and had to watched the entire thing! S/o to you queen!
I tend to see a np as my pcp is rarely available and I wish mine was as great as you!
Congrats on everything. I enjoy watching your videos and look forward to your upcoming videos.
I start clinicals for my ASN in the fall, so I'm not sure why I'm watching this haha (yet, anyways), but gosh you are so BEAUTIFUL and this gets me SUPER excited to start! heehee
I love this, I'm 2 months into my program I'm excited already, wish me luck
Loved this video. I'm an accountant but don't see a future in this field. Strongly thinking about pursuing a career in nursing.
Nursing is such a versatile progression and there’s so many things you can do with it and advance into. I have a channel on here where I chronicle my day as a nurse practitioner and even tips to get you through FNP school. It’s definitely worth it. I personally changed my profession from social work to nursing and so glad it did!
@@holisticbeautyRN Do you think that I can start at the age of 40?
@@kimberlyshelton5167 ABSOLUTELY! I personally know many people who were in there 50s and up who where in my nursing program and changing careers and complete the legal! What’s more important is that you have the time management, organization and dedication because it’s not an easy road meaning you have a lot of studying and commitment to school but you can do it!
@@holisticbeautyRN Thank you so much for the encouragement.
Could you explain your RN position? Why did u choose to be an NP part time and continues as an RN?
I love being a bedside nurse but am currently in an NP program.
Shannon Wolske Hi there! Thanks for watching. Please refer to Vlog 32. I get this question a lot and if you start from there you would have an understanding as to why I chose to balance both positions
I’m in school for NP been an RN over 10 years!!
love your necklace!! Also good job at your job hope your doing safe during Covid
Thank you! I’m maintaining and trying to stay healthy.
I loved this type of video. I am so happy I stumbled upon your channel.
Nurse practitioner is my dream job! Hopefully I still stick to it till college 💕
I just subscribed to your channel I don’t know if you done a video of your your Journey to becoming a Nurse Practioner I would love to watch your video of that.
Hey there! You can find some clips in my playlist called “the nurse’s corner”.
I love how in depth you were! ❤️
I need some advice verrrry badly. how imperative do you think experience as an RN is to being a NP, particularly a FNP. I see so many people saying it's a terrible shortcut and that NPs with no RN experience are incompetent. For me, knowing that NP is my end goal, I don't see the point in working first instead of knocking all my schooling out at once. Please help a panicking senior in undergrad lol.
Hi Brittany! I am definitely an advocate for a novice nurse to get at least 1.5-2 years of working experience before pursuing higher education. I say this because when I was in the MSN program my class was mixed with new BSN grads and experienced RNs. The difference in the way experienced RNs comprehend concepts and information, the way they catch on to things, the ease in applying what they know to various lessons greatly differs from a new graduate. I, thankfully, worked for 2 years before going back for my masters and I don't regret it one bit.
Kiim Kash I definitely understand where you’re coming from. Of course the prior RNs will know more, I think I can accept that and study harder. Another thing for me is that I don’t intend to work in a hospital. From what I gather, acute care NPs get more out of being an RN first than FNPs that go on to work in primary care settings since the work is so different and could be very routine like check ups, paps, etc. Years of RN experience for that in particular don’t seem pertinent to me while it’s likely helpful. Thanks for your response!!!
It seems like you have already made up your mind but just in case you truly do want the advice.....I would tell you that as an RN with 3 years experience, you should def get the experience first before pursuing the FNP. You don’t have to work in the hospital though, work in a doctors office as an RN or a clinic. It will def help you even with simple things like just interacting with patients, which you would be surprised that new grads with no clinical experience struggle with this. I couldn’t imagine going straight from no experience to FNP. There are many things about nursing that CANNOT be learned in a book and experience is always the best teacher. Nursing school does NOT adequately prepare you for patient care, getting the experience is necessary, especially before becoming a NP in which you are diagnosing and treating patients.
ladycurl2xcel thanks for this! i’m actually not opposed to working outpatient at all. i can definitely see how that would be beneficial
Well said!!
Love seeing this side .!!!! Thankss for this
Thank you for watching!
Hi, Where do you work in the hospital? I was wondering why you keep that job? I know in some cities the pay is better in the hospital which is disappointing to hear. I've been an RN for 20 years and need to get my masters... I just don't know what route to take.. FNP and do clinic work? I just think it might be tedious b/c Ive only done ICU and now outpatient surgery PACU.. Thanks for posting the video to give us a glimpse of what a real day is like..
Thank you for honesty and the time 15 mins I mean the assessment we learn in school for whole body is 30 mins!!! This is a concern for me!
What are your tips for getting charting completing - so that you dont have to bring home work, I will be working only three days a week and I want to find the balance???what do you make sure your chart while patient is present and what are you okay with charting after - pearls of wisdom? thank you
Why do you do RN full time instead of NP full time? Just wondering.
Also thank you for your video! #goals ☺️
Lari Chica hey Lari! If you have time I would like to refer you to vlog #32. I am too passionate about bedside nursing that I have not committed to leaving yet.
Kiim Kash thank you!
@@KiimKash I watched your vlog #32 as well. I am an RN about to begin my AGNP education. My understanding is that you have your FNP, but you are still able to work as a floor RN. Is that correct? I am trying to understand how that works. If I get my AGNP and decide I don't like it can I go back to being a floor RN? And thank you for your Vlogs!
Girlllll goals 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️
New Subbie!!!! I’m about to binge, you instantly motivated me!!!!
... and that, you did! Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed :)
Kiim Kash yes, I am here for it! Keep up the great work!
I am working as an NP as well and I was wondering why you only work as a provider on a part time basis?. Do you find that the NP roles/jobs are saturated. Thanks.
Hi, Michelle.
I have a few videos addressing this but basically, I am not completely "over" bedside nursing. I still love the satisfaction of watching my patient heal, plus I like to believe I am a pretty good (GREAT, lol) RN.
Now, regarding NP jobs being saturated, I haven't experienced that yet. I'm not sure what the work opportunities are in other states but in NY, there has been a large opportunity for mid-level providers to flourish and make their mark in healthcare.
What did you do in high school to prepare yourself for studying this in college. What kind of classes did you take in high school?
yesssss omg i need to be this in the next 5 years im not even an rn yet ughhh!!!!slowly wokring towards my goal!
That moment you think a 15 minute turns into a 45 minute 💆🏽♀️
Do a video on why you decided to work full time as an RN and part time as NP
Fuzzy Spirals Hey there!! Thanks for watching! I have some videos that address this, somewhat. Check out vlog 32 and the video entitled “chit chat, what happened to my np job” for some insight.
Ayyyyeeee a fellow Haitian! I’m so happy I found your channel!
Do you expect nurses to help you clean up the chart- like a med reconciliation- med housekeeping
Great video, may I ask why you choose to work as an NP per diem? I really like that you still continue to be a floor nurse, just a personal preference?
I am starting a direct entry MSN/NP program in the fall
Still deciding on being a NP but your videos are really inspiring ❤️ can you talk about the pros and cons of being a NP one day ? I would really love to hear your opinion
Thank you I’m just starting my career is a nurse practitioner and working in a needle needle intensive care unit I had to say it is one of the most challenging things I’ve ever had to do do you have any advice you can give me thank you I appreciate it
How many years have you been working as a bedside nurse before you applied to NP school? You are such a inspiration!! The level that you critical think is a goal for me!!!
Laura Portillo hi there! I worked for 2 years before applying for the masters program, and continued to work throughout.
Little late but yay CONGRATS you made it..the struggle is real😭😭.. I'm taking summer classes and its gnna be my last also...apply for nursing school in August(hopefully I got in😢)I wanna be a Nurse anesthetist I really love OR.🇭🇹🇭🇹...I got here in (my senior's year)3 years ago so still learning 😭...Need prayers😭👩🏽⚕️👩🏽⚕️.
Oh and New subscriber...I want to know more about being a nurse specialist being a Black Nurse Pros cons(like discrimination I heard a lot about it) rude patients/Coworkers( I really dont mind)..but you find a lot of those??? If not personal. Thank You!!!!👩🏽⚕️👩🏽⚕️🤗
Medication reconciliation is sooooo important
Marley Dahms isn’t it?! It takes a few minutes but it’s worth it!
do you delegate to thge nurse to do the med rec and call the pharmacy for you for the med list updated?
im 13 and im thinking of becoming a NP im not completely sure but this video sure did help me a lot
What a good gpa for Np school ? Also what science class are required besides AP and micro
Every school has their own requirements but I would suggest aiming to maintain a 3.5 GPA and be sure to pass your core classes with a B+ or better. Core classes= med-surg, pharmacology, etc.
What's the main difference as a nurse and a nurse practitioner in Duties? Would you consider one more laborious physically than the other? Thanks in advance!
Thank you so much for this, I wanted to see the screen so bad and you actually showed it 😂, please do more and show more I love your videos you make me want to grind so hard thank you #goals
So do you have to finish charting for every patient you seen that day before you leave? Or can you put it off until the next day?
Great question. At first, I considered the idea of doing so, but I quickly disregarded the thought. As nurses, we are taught to use our time wisely. So, I've managed to not only connect with the patients and give them the well- deserved time they need, all the while finding time to chart AND leave on time!
