Hi Carolina, to make this bind off in the round, the first preparation round and the bind off itself will be the same. The only difference is the second preparation round. It will be [slip 1 with the yarn at the back of the work, purl 1]. Happy knitting :-)

This cast off is mostly used to finish off ribbing because it matches the look of ribbing so nicely. When used with other stitch patterns, it is usually recommended to work a couple rows in ribbing and then use tubular bind off. Happy knitting :-)
My project has a purl as a first stitch. I am too inexperienced to figure out how to do the final cast off (I have just laid in the 2 finished rows per your tutorial) when the first stitch is not a knit stitch, What do I need to do first to bind together all the purl stitches?
Hi Natalie. When you work in the round, work the pattern repeat to the end of the round. In round 1 it will be [knit 1, slip 1 with the yarn at the front of the work]. But, because we do not turn the work, round 2 will be different from round 1. In the second preparation round you would need to [slip 1 with the yarn at the back of the work, purl 1], repeat to the end of the round. Good luck :-)
That was very informative, Mayina, and a bit confusing too, but the coloured yarn helped and I can see that this ending of the ribbing is very much worth the extra effort. It is always disappointing when the ribbing stretches and takes away that lovely neat and firm garment. Thank you for another fabulous tuition. I watch them all but seldom comment. The only thing is that most times I start with the ribbing, not end with it, so perhaps there is a means of making the stretchy ribbing from the beginning? x x

Yes, when you run out of yarn, weave in the "old" strand into the edge of the band and then attach a "new" strand by weaving it in through the fabric. This way, there will be no visible knots and no tails to hide when you finish binding off. Good luck, Geri :-)
When I use this cast on on a seamless project, I usually join it in the round after I work the set up rows. It is possible to join it right after we cast on stitches but because the cast on edge is formed by loose wraps, it is very hard to work the first round. I find that it is way easier to join the edge after it has some body formed by the set up rows.
That's a challenge. Because the 3x1 ribbing is not balanced, the tubular edge doesn't look neat. It is better to use the yarn over bind off for ribbing described at www.10rowsaday.com/stretchy-bindoff-ribbing Happy knitting!
I wanted to try this on my latest pair of socks. I got so confused and frustrated, all I ended up with was a very tight edge no stretch despite slipping the rows before the cast off edge. It was a nightmare to rip back. Its now back in a ball. I won't be trying this again way to difficult.
Hi Susan. So sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience with the tubular bind off. This technique IS a bit tricky. Because we form the bind off edge without knitting needles, we have to be careful with the length of each stitch. If the stitches are too short, the edge gets too tight. Italian bind-off or Kitchener bind off is not the same as tubular bind-off actually. Tubular bind-off is actually called tubular because there’re double knitted rows (hence the name tubular referring to a tube inside), and Italian bind-off is the one without any prep rows. I think you’re confusing people with putting all of the names together. Tubular is called tubular because of the tubular like fabric at the edge it creates and Italian bind off is thinner without any tubes in it. They do share common finishing rows but they’re not the same fabrics.
