RC Beginners Tip: Tinting Windows Like A Pro Using Tamiya PS-31 Smoke Spray Paint

  • The number one mistake when tinting your windows is to start on the window itself. Always start on the body and move across the window stopping once you reach the body on the other side. Also, the speed you move while spraying needs to be faster than when painting standard colour as you're trying to get an even light coat ONLY!
Three to four light coats are all you will need for a realistic window tint look. Don't be fooled if it doesn't look like you have added enough on the first few coats, over the 15 min drying time it will darken. It's ALWAYS better to add more light coats if needed vs fewer heavy coats.

Using the Tamiya PS "smoke" tint... I also recommend letting the can sit in warm water for a few minutes to warm up. I'll do this also between coats of pant. I've heard a lot of horror stories with "smoke" tint... don't go to heavy... keep applying the coats of spray lightly.

I've used the Tamiya tint and it's always been good. I was surprised though, I had some spray window tint from an auto parts store and was out of the Tamiya tint, the auto parts store spray tint had enough of an etch to it that it did adhere to the windows nicely on a polycarbonate body.

Wish I saw this sooner. My tiny laid down well but it's far too dark and almost looks like black pint. Cheers

I have been into the hobby since the 90s but have never tinted any of my windows on any of my Rc’s but i am interested in doing one particular body that i have and thats my kyosho superten 99 Subaru Impreza body shell still in the original packaging at the moment but i seen one you did and it looked so much better. Hope I don’t have any problems when painting cos its a 20year old body shell.

@@adilkumel2988God no, you should never use PS smoke on a real glass car window. It would just look a total mess. It won’t be homogeneous and it would obscure the view. Just stuck with normal car window tinting film.

The worst thing you can do to Tint your windows, is to smoke it with paint, Why in the hell would you tint the front window? Just use real car tint.

@@RCKickschannel Well if the "Blurry" look is Tinted to you including the front Window 🤔. Then your great is far from mines, I do enjoy your channel though untill you start tinting windows lol.

@@FirstNation1492 I’ve been PS tinting my windows from the start. I warm up my Ps paint and lay it down super light so it doesn’t get blurry. Also the paint is on the inside so if you lay it down evenly, on the outside it’s shiny. Nothing wrong with cutting out window tint if it works better for you.
