Genesis is far and away my favorite luxury brand. The designs are stately and beautiful and hold their own flair. The large sedans look like rolling granite - just fantastic. That sweeping, unending line from the grill to the rear... The straight cut head/tail lights... The Mercedes and BMW competitors have been either boring or straight up horrendous. The Koreans have been crushing it!
Please automakers do more of this, just convert existing looking models into electric and maintain the styling for ppl who don’t want the totally futuristic EV styling
Totally agree. I had a honda clarity and although it was very economical, I couldn't get over the looks. If this was available back then, I would've totally chose this and stayed with it.
I absolutely love the way Genesis did this. Personally I think you don’t have to make an entirely new model range to make an electric car. You can electrify existing models (Volvo XC-40 Recharge, Ford F-150 Lightning.) this makes so much more sense to me
@@JonathonBarton It really isn't all that new, it's heavily based on the current ICE F-150 in all measures. The CEO of Ford has been vocal about this being a one-time thing; the next EV F-150 will be on its own, separate platform. Sharing platforms isn't really smart in the long term and automakers are realizing this.

Just the change to independent suspension in the back is a pretty significant change, even if you "just" stick the batteries between the frame rails otherwise... Ultimately, I actually like the way Ford put it together quite a lot, and I kind of hope that RAM and Chevy follow suit. Interesting stat that Ford says that 40-50% of the Lightning's customers are "new to trucks" too. I know we are. We don't need a truck as a daily driver because the mileage sucks, but we could definitely use something that pulls a horse trailer. F150L satisfies both requirements.

I have a hard time thinking they try at all. Every tesla is the same design, just stretched, raised or squished frumpy van bubble cars... The other EVs all look like electrified toasters or something designed in the 90s to look "futuristic". This G80 is a breath of fresh air!
Sadly not anytime soon. Due to selling only 50 cars in 2 yrs, they pulled out about 3 years ago from UK. Genesis get good reviews but not selling well at all. My guess is that they spend $$ on marketing for reviews. They need to spend money building their standalone Genesis dealerships. MB, BMW, Audi, Lexus etc luxury car shopper is not going to enter Hyundai dealership and spend $70k+
Genesis just "get's it". Brilliant move to convert ICE cars to EV...thought Hyundai/Kia/Genesis have some of the most unique and stylish EVs in the market. SO much better looking than Teslas, ID4, Mach E etc. Styling, performance, fastest charging, tech, warranty...the Ionic5/EV6/Genesis G60 are the complete package. The GV70 EV looks incredible too...it's already out in Korea.
Hyundai and Kia have been absolutely killing it lately, and I'm glad they haven't abandoned sedans. Let's hope they haven't forgotten about the Stinger.
Your mode of regen shows at the right down side of gauge cluster 7:09. You can actually see it happening. If you press right regen button for 2sec it will go into automatic regen mode. Currently you are in manual regen mode. Also you can only access i-pedal mode in manual mode.

Electric cars will change "gas stations" back into the "service stations." Of old. With charging times universally into 20 to 30 minutes, people will need something to do, like sit down and eat, other car service or, quick exercise; charging station will be more like mini strip malls
So, it doesn't have a sunroof because you already lose interior space with the floor being higher. If it had a sunroof you would lose even more headroom because of the lowered ceiling for the the roof mechanisms
Honestly, this is one of the most gorgeous cars I've ever seen. I fell in love with the g80 and was super excited to see that it was getting a full electric. I LOVE that they decided not to go future stupid with the design of it. Why mess with what was already a slam dunk? I actually thought the gv60 was on the uglier side. I love big grills on cars and really liked the one on the g80. The fact they just inverted it and seamlessly hid the charger inside it was just *chefs kiss* And it's funny you mentioned it marketed towards older folks. I just turned 30 like two weeks ago and if you had shown me this 10 years ago my jaw would have been on the floor.

The G80 is a really nice transformation from gas to electric. Smooth, quiet, and no weird styling that screams electric car. The Electrified G80 looks better than the gas version because of the wheels, the hidden charging door, and no more gas fill door on the rear quarter panel.

One thing i hate about genesis is that they don't sell their car in my country, Yes it's a third world country, but at least we can see new faces instead of Toyotas and hondas. I mean Hyundai and Kia are actually pretty damn flourished in the recent years here, i really don't see why they won't.
When you're saying you can't see any indication of what you're regen breaking is set to in the video, it's literally a shot of you pressing the regen bumpers with the indicator gauge in the background :p It's basically on the bottom right of the screen right behind the steering wheel and goes from 0 to Max with a little power symbol in the middle.
While I like most of what Genesis is doing, the front charging port is actually quite a ridiculous idea. Almost all traffic accidenta result in a front end collision. Even a minor collision will likely render this car useless until many thousands of dollars of repair work is performed.
We're trying to decide between the GV60 and the Ioniq5 and the XC40 Electric. Not that anyone has one to buy - we may wind up with a '19 eTron because at least those exist...if you're quick. =)
I have often relied on you two Canucks to give well reasoned reviews of the latest cars and SUVs. You have obviously done it again. HEY, I pus a complete set of Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires on my 2019 MAZDA Cx-5 GT Reserve (AWD, 2.5 turbo) and they were AMAZING in 10 inches of new snow driving to my ski area. I used to live in Erie,PA so I really know snow tires and these CC2 tires are at least as good as any from Finland. PLUS they are ALL season tires!
I paid $45k for my 2018 G80 V6 Ultimate package. That same car is now around $71k...this electric is $80k. I am not saying they aren't worth it and Genesis *certainly* isn't the only company guilty of this...but a new Genesis G80 is firmly out of my league now. When you consider the increase in interest rates it's even more beyond my range. It's sad because I love my car and was dead set on being a Genesis customer for life.

Front grill charge port does make DC fast charging easier but any front fender bender could destroy your ability to charge so I prefer them on the side
Well I'm a true JDM fan and I always turn my eyes away from other brands but ahhhhhhhhhhhh 😩😩😩😩 the other brands are turning the table around I'm now liking the other brand as well especially the Korean because they are getting ahead of the Japanese with a very fast pace and they give you more for your money when comparing it to Japanese what's true now it's true I have to face the reality of Japanese car getting left behind by the Koren's
If you can give a try for the normal BMW i4. Reviews in Europe often prefer it over the M sport variant, as it's not as stiff and has better range. Also if a car has good auto ac, I don't care about the buttons. VAG have this figured out for years, so does most German brands. I don't know about the Koreans though.
I like the electric option, I even like that they let you have that extra space around the battery in the trunk, BUT they need to fix the 'grill' it ruined the g80's face

I really love the strides that Hyundai and Genesis have made. I don’t like the electric direction of cars, but that isn’t up to me.
The Porsche taycan charges at a maximum at 270kw and the Hyundai ioniq 5, Kia ev6, genesis gv60, and the genesis g80 can charge at maximum of 235kw

It will be the same way as this, being built on the regular GV70 platform. The eGV70 will be built in Hyundai's Alabama plant for models sold in NA.
