  • Hi.
In this episode ArniJ is going to the yellow mountains in Anhui, China. Huang shan (黄山)is a unesco heritage site and a very beautiful mountain range. It still has some drawbacks, that are discussed in further detail in this video.

It seems western people regard mountains as 'a challenge' or something 'need to be conquered'. But Chinese usually want to 'merge ourselves into the mountains', especially to these beautiful mountains like Lu Mountain and Yellow Mountain, we prefer to be 'a part of mountain'. This is a HUGE culture difference, indicating a different attitude towards nature

I think Chinese are both . Lot of Chinese poets went into the mountains by foot and explore lot of things.

I walked up there in 2019 and couldn’t cope with the humid weather. Mid way my body shut down. There is a tiny store located at the halfway mark which saved me with a snickers. Since then I always carry snickers with me

Snacks are essential when hiking. You should snack almost every hour to keep up the energy levels depending on the hike ofc. Good to hear that nothing worse happened.

Many mountains in China are not only scenery, but also culture, from ancient times to today, many celebrities, emperors will do some worship on these mountains, build temples, etc., not only mountain adventure but also experience the history and culture behind. For example, Mount Qingcheng in Sichuan is Taoist and Mount Emei is Buddhist.Secondly, many mountains in China have many routes, one is for most people, by cable car, and the other is hiking routes that like to explore and adventure, which is different. If you like to explore adventure, welcome to the west of Sichuan, there are many undeveloped mountains, the scenery is beautiful, you need to have a wealth of climbing experience, otherwise it is easy to die on the road

The tickets that you were buying were for entrance fee, upward transportation fee, cable car fee, downward transportation fee. I think you don’t need to pay the transportation fees and cable car fee if you decided to walk all the way to the mountain top by yourself. You have the option to not take the transportation facilities in the scenic areas.

You should actually walk to the top of the mountain instead of taking the cable car. Then you will know what Huangshan Mountain is.

Mabye saying that EVERYONE smokes is an exaggeration but tobacco consumption is high. Finland is one of the least smoking countries in europe, that’s why I notice it so quickly. I’ve also never seen anyone smoke indoors before coming to asia in general.
