Guys! I recently bought a new home with a very old heating system. It has a back boiler on an open coal fire... plus a hot water tank with immersion. I'm stumped as to be best option for replacement because of the poor insulation as well because it's a 1920's terrace house. It's a real toughy because the only real ways to insulate our house a lot better would be to get external wall insulation... totally not affordable. We are both earners (but only make a normal/low wage) so we aren't eligible for ANY eco grants either. So many people like us are stuck in old houses that need expensive works to improve their insulation that they can't afford.
