The local gay bar where I used to live would be great for you, Hat. It was two levels, with the upstairs being the dance club/drag show stage/main bar, and the downstairs was a smaller bar where they did Karaoke and generally it was quieter so you could sit and talk to people. It was also a gay resort, so they had a hotel and pool and restaurant connected. The only downside though is that it was kinda remote (then again, this is NE Pennsylvania, where everything was a 5-10 minute drive on distance alone.) I made a ton of friends there, including the owners, a few of the drag queens and kings, the KJs and the bartenders.
Never go to a gay club or bar with high expectations. Just go with a couple of friends and you'll have a great night. But easy for me to say, I kinda like drinking and dancing. The next day however, I like to switch to introvert mode. Order a pizza, watching Netflix and play Pokémon all day. With or without company. You can do both! ^_^
i'm with hat. not a fan of dancing or drinking, i'd rather hang out and talk, than be in a dark and loud environment. however, there's bars that are more hang out type of places, where you just sit at the table, drink something, not necessarily alcoholic, talk to the people you're with. you can actually see and hear people. there's sometimes music, but it's not stupidly loud, it's more of a nice background music. those are ok for me, because it does give you the chance to hang out and talk to people
I usually go to the local gay bar with some friends just to go out and have a few drinks and enjoy the drag show towards the end of the night. It also helps that our local gay bar, Images, is a small place and more personal. I've become really good friends with the owner who is also one of the Queens that performs and all the other Queens know us by name and told us that when we are there we make the night better since we cut up with them during the show and make them feel like it's more fun than "work" for them. We also tip very well and support them to help when they go out of town for drag shows and pageants in hopes that they not only have a great time, but maybe even win one for our home town. Most of the people that go there tend to be regulars and make anyone new feel at home, whether they are straight, gay, bi or anything in between. It can get loud but we also have a patio out back that's part of the bar that lets you get away from all the noise and sit and have a nice conversation. Hat and Joe, if you're ever in Chattanooga I'll gladly take you out there just to see if you'd like it. I adore you both. You two feel like family to me and not just the gay family either.
I've never been much of a club-goer, though that can probably be due to my first experience with a club. I went with a friend to a club because they had to drop something off to someone who was there (a leather piece for a cosplay). So I was standing near the bar, waiting for them to return when this guy started hitting on me. He was obviously drunk, so I wasn't taking anything he said with a grain of salt. But he was also sort of goofy so I was humoring him a bit. Finally he asked if I wanted to "get out of here and go back to his place". I declined, and he proceeded to reply with "Oh c'mon sweetie, I really want to try out a fat chick before I graduate.".........so yeah, it's not really my scene.
I love your videos! Please keep them coming! Wonderful to see two gay guys who can have mature (or not at times for giggles) conversations about being gay :-)
I've never actually been to a gay club. I like dancing, even if I suck at it, so I imagine I'd like the music and all that, but I wouldn't know how to start up a conversation with anyone. Namely if it's that loud. Also you're adorable, and the drawing that had you pose as a flamingo is one of my favorite things.
Great video. Over the past ten years (18-28), the purpose of gay clubs have changed for me. It used to be about drinking, making out and dancing. Now it's more of a social thing with friends. Celebrating events, brit nostalgic, etc. I've shifted from the club scene to the bar scene. Music isn't as loud, there's decent lighting and guys there want to talk to each other. I've never been a hookup kinda guy. That's never been a priority of why I frequent a club or a bar. Which seems pretty odd to a lot of my fellow gays.
Not quite a gay club story, as I've never been, but when I came out to a friend online I stopped her picking her nose mid-pick.

I do enjoy going out once in a while, although I rather go to a bar, where I can sit and talk. But on those occasions I go with friends and not to hook up... so I get you. It's weird, make me feel like a peacock, showing your feathers and screaming: LOOK AT ME!
As a straight man I think I'd only go to gay bars so I could drink the drinks that actual taste good without being judged, or for the confidence boost of being hit on. Either way seems like a win/win to me!
i LOVE drinking and dancing especially when you go with friends. Gay clubs tend to have the best music imo. Although I do agree with hat that when one tries to meet someone a club is not the place to do it.
I enjoy the club/bar scene. I like to get out and socialize. But most of all, I love to dance. And, well, drink... But I've never tried to find love at a bar. I just go to see and spend time with my friends. However, as much as I love to go out, I do miss playing board games, wating pizza, and playing video games with friends. I only really get to see them at the bar...
When I was younger, I loved going to the club/bar. It was a place to be safe and actually get to be myself. Now that I am older, I am not a huge fan of them. I don't mind going every now and then as long as I go with the right people, but not regularly.
i've never been to a gay club bc i feel like people there are usually in their early/mid 20s and idk, im 18 and i'm not out yet so i dont really wanna go there by myself. and we dont really have lesbian bars here, so the problem is i have no idea where i could meet gay girls my age
The thing about expectations that Joe said is so true :DD if you feel lonely and sad you should NEVER think gay clubs as the solution of all your problems :V period. I've never went to a gay club, but lots of my friends do and they always go in group, never by themselves. I can imagine that would be very boring and even sad
I used to go to a gay club in Lincoln just to see the drag shows. I never really cared for the drinking/dancing thing. I prefer coffee shops so I can talk to someone and get to know them.
I prefer mini gay bar or gay pub over gay club because sometime it doesn't play load music and I able to socialize with strangers, drink wine and play pool, arcade and chess.
It's no better on this side of the pond! Once got cornered by a much bigger madly man in a bar a few years ago. Made awkward small talk. Was all very awkward. All for board games and video games instead! X_x
I like going to the club or bar. My big and I mostly go just to socialize with all our friends. It is nice to get away from it though and stay home watch Netflix, drink and have dinner. I enjoy going out though.
I'm exactly like you, Hat. Well, I enjoy drinking but I don't like dancing and loud music, so I'm not a fan of gay clubs. Luckyly I was recently able to find other gay nerds like me and we usually stay at home to play board games and eat pizza, or watch movies. Now if only one of them would be available to be my boyfriend...
I like drinking, but I hate clubs so much that I couldn't stand to be in one for long without being drunk. Blaring music, darkness, crowdedness, every one of your senses is either over-stimulated or deprived. And even if you did meet someone there, they're going to try to make out with you and I'm just not into it if I just met the person. It's not a matter of principle or anything, I'm just not into it.
I'm the most awkward person on earth, so to solve this I'll just get super drunk at the bar/club to socialize. Then the next day is just full of regrets...
When I lived in Iowa, on my way home from High School I would usually take a route that had me pass by a place called Le Boi Bar. I remember wanting to go there but I think being as old as I am and walking in to a place with tons of strangers wouldn't be the best idea for me. 99.99% due to the fact I'm socially awkward but yeah... Then 00.01% because I 15.
I live in a smaller city that doesn't have any sort of gay club or bar. Unfortunately, this city that has a very small gay community so there hasn't been enough support to sustain a gay club of any sort. They have tried a few times, all closing within a few months. I never had an experience at a gay club because I was under age at the time.
Why don't people just create a gay bar with a dance floor in the first floor and a lounge with all kinds of videogames on the second floor? Then you could geather all your friends no matter their idea of fun... and then gather them all at an AWESOME bar called The Joystick :3 And whoever beats the High Score Of The Week with Sindel or Peach would get free drinks
I LOVE gay clubs. I could do less with gay bars. I personally love dancing, drinking is fun. I agree with most of what Joe said. If you go there to dance or meet guys to makeout with and have fun then it can be a real good time. Just don't go there expecting to find the man of your dreams, which is what I had to learn the hard way as a young gay ;P The safety aspect is also important. There's a level of comfort that you won't ever find any where else in the str8 world. You can let your guard down. ps. Love the mugs boys!
Hat, if you think dark, loud, drunk dance clubs are bad, imagine having this be your only place to socialize during times when smoking was allowed/acceptable.
I go to gay clubs and you and I have a lot in common. Interests in Pokémon, for one. you just gotta take someone to the ally to interview them or something, lol (usually there is a quiet area where you can go outside the club, for like smoking and stuff, but you don't have to smoke to go there)
I'm not a big fan of loud music and some guys in clubs think that the only way to communicate is with... touching me D: I do volunteering at a gaybar. It's the only place where I want to go out to because there are always very nice people. It doesn't matter if you're gay or lesbian or bi or straight or... an alien! You have also these certain days/evenings where you're with only people with certain ages (like, days for people under 18, evenings for people from 18 til 26 or from 60 and older). I only have experience with the under 18 and -26 one, of course :p But it's a very nice cafe to be at, to say the least :D
Someone should create gay rec clubs across the nation (that don't seem lame). Like a gay Dave & Buster's! So.. Gayve and Buttster's? I don't know. In other news, I love dancing, so I enjoy gay clubs alright. The dark lighting and repetitive music is really annoying, though.
Yay! The theme song is back! XD I go to clubs every now and again, it's fun once in a while, but I'd rather stay in and binge eat with Netflix, just like Hat *nudge nudge wink wink* Did I mention I'm also Jewish, so both our mom's would approve 😉😅
Board games and video games are my kind of scene too and I am lucky to have found someone who has very similar interests as me. I have no interest in clubbing anymore, it is just all the same music that's just that tad too loud... I do like dancing and I drink occasionally though.
Oh man, I've never been to a gay club but I know I would hate it. If i'm going somewhere with loud noises i'd want to go to a bar and see friends of mine play a show, but tbh my ideal date is like, traditional going out. Getting a coffee, having a conversation, etc. I mean, if the date also brings her 3DS and Smash Bros, then I THINK we might be able to get along you know what i'm sayin?
So if we gays won't find true love at bars or clubs - the only place where you EVERYONE is gay -, where do we find it? If you tell me online dating I will die. By the way, your comics on tumblr were everything!!!
You know, it's funny... when I was single I never went to a gay bar or club. Now that I am in a relationship, my partner and I go to gay clubs once in a while so we can dance, have a drink, and maybe show some affection without fear of being attacked. I find them fun, but would I have found it fun when I was single? Perhaps not.
I usually end up in lesbian bar, they are much more rock and roll and you can bet u can find a pizza somewhere, I always end up meeting new people, well some of them think i'm a ftm but that's fine :)
Well, I did meet my husband at a gay bar, in Chicago. Went out to the bar with friends because it was dollar drink night (I didn't drink back then, still really don't). I brought copies of a comic book I had made, because another friend said he might come and wanted a copy. He didn't show. But I saw a cute guy, and as me and my friends were leaving to go to another bar, I went up to the cute guy, and gave him the comics with my number on them. I said here are some comics I made, read them, and if you like them, there's my number, give me a call. He liked and called, we had a 3 day date. And 16 years later, we are married living in Manhattan. That's an exception story. Can't expect the same results. But a person can go into any situation with an open mind. Also, have to be willing to try.
i hate going out, because most of the time, its like being back in high school. cliques, bitchy mean gays.... i have better things to do with my time than to stand around and let someone half my age judge me.
I've never been to a gay bar or club, thanks to living far from everything. I do not, however, like normal clubs, so odds are gay clubs won't be my thing, either. Although they do have the added benefit of being gay. One can only watch the heterosexual mating ritual a few times before it gets old :P
I agree 100% with Hat. I'm not a fan of dancing or drinking. I'd rather play boardgames or watch a show/movie with friends or pretty much anything that doesn't involve crazy drunk people. Hat how do you meet guys? I mean, gay clubs are pretty much the only place gays congregate. Where would you suggest meeting other guys? I feel like we should create more gay spaces like clubs, but for things outside of drinking and dancing.
I'm incredibly shy, so while i do enjoy going to gay clubs (i actually work in a gay club), i don't necessarily go to meet girls, i'm way to shy to actually approach someone and introduce myself. Plus it's slightly harder for girls in my opinion, as a lot of women at gay clubs are straight girls who have gone with gay men, so it's a bit harder to find lesbians at a gay club, sad but true. Maybe that's just a British thing though :/
***** I've heard similar things from my lesbian friends. Also I guess there really aren't that many specifically "lesbian" bars. Not sure if it's the same in England?
No, it's very unisex for gay clubs here, guys and girls, which is pretty cool, but it means you're never quite sure if a femme girl is a lesbian or just there with a load of guys or whatever (i use that theory to explain why i never get hit on haha :P)
A lot of straight women also go to gay clubs so they can dance without being hit on constantly by men. I hate going dancing and having strange men grind on me all night.
Gah. I totally agree with Hat. Gay clubs are the worst for meeting people. Where do you meet other folks who like playing board/video games and eating pizza?
Gay clubs can be fun and I do go every now and then (read... 4 times a year) when I want to dance and drink but that's usually with friends who I know and are usually female. For all the dark and loud gay guys at clubs still tend to only go after other Caucasian foreigners but maybe that's guy i'm a latino guy in taiwan. But a night in playing video games/board games and witty banter? Sign me up! seriously... is there like a waiting list or something? That is literally what do most of the time, sans any people. But bantering with myself becomes boring sometimes, that guy is a dick sometimes -_-
T. Phillips Aww thanks so much!!!!! It's support from you guys that allows me to continue to do this stuff! So I appreciate it a lot! Take pics when you get the mugs!
Its funny, as for me I tend to be the youngest guy at them and so I get hit on, purely for that reason it seems.... That and the quality of the Clubs in my area are not the greatest
I've never been in a gay club, but I've been in straight clubs (eh?) that's because I don't have gay friends nor straight friends that would want to go with me. Well, in the case of clubs, always someone gets terribly drunk, last time it was the driver... I picked his keys when he wanted to turn on the car, we had some sort of fight and then he fell asleep when I moved his seat to the back. I couldn't understand his priorities... He trusted me his straight ass (figuratively and literally), but not his car keys? Next day we had "The talk" and he almost cried in shame >:D At least he learnt. So, It´s not like I don't like gay clubs, I just don't like clubs. That's it. I hate drunk people, that would be more accurate. When we "party in da house" we put some music, usually I cook something, like pizza, hamburgers or sushi... and most of the time there's booz, but getting drunk and making out it's not that main topic of the party, you see? Sometimes it happens anyway though, and I get terribly uncomfortable.
I enjoyed the content and animation in this video, but I didn't appreciate the way jump cuts were used. They were too frequent and a bit jarring at times. If this video were longer and with fewer jump cuts, I'd like it a lot more, but that's just like, my opinion, man.
Hat maybe you'd enjoy a softer drink! Unless alcohol just makes you sick in which case you could drink whatever else u want. The point is to have a beverage lol. Maybe one day you'll meet a guy at a bar who becomes another boardgames/pizza buddy! you never know. I've only been to 2 gay bars. The first was G Lounge or something like that in NYC. I dragged my friend to come with me. Idk I just wanted to go and have a good time drinking in the city with my friend because we had just turned 21, and I had never been to a gay bar so the new experience gave me more perspective on other gays. I've barely had gay friends so I went out of my way to do something gay! (Say gay again). It was pretty fun. It was especially fun because of the setting. The second time I was invited. It was not as fun because I was with this guy and I felt pressure to be social towards his friends. I do best in public when i don't feel that social pressure. but yeah I think bars whether gay or not shouldn't be feared, they are about chillaxing, not much else. and people nagging you to be chill if you aren't. So feel free to be choosy about them, there's really different ones out there! Clubs are a different story and i haven't been to a gay club to this day. However I imagine they can't be so different from non gay clubs (can't hear yourself talk, must feel ok dancing, etc.)
I personally don't enjoy gay clubs at all, mostly because I'm somewhat introverted. The music is too loud, a lot of people don't care about you being there, (Not that I expect everyone to care, but I do want to feel like my presence there has some sort of meaning, at least to my one friend I came with but often he's just looking for a hook-up) and a lot of people are drunk. That just all seems like an unenjoyable experience and I would much prefer hanging out at someone's house or in a quiet restaurant with good music, and play games or watch movies. That's my idea of fun. The gay clubs just don't seem promising to me in the slightest.
Awh, well damn... :/ I love the beach, but I never get to go there... I've never really gone to a "Club", but I don't think I'd like it very much. From what I've heard it's just a bunch of people stirring their drinks and sneering at eachother. "What is he *wearing*?" and all that biz.
I have only been to a few gay bars but I think generally they are like any other. I find them a necessary evil as all my friends love clubbing so I go for the social aspect but the whole environment isn't that entertaining. I wish there was actual clubs like a gay club where gay people go to do group activities and meet people. It sound sort of like a youth group thing but I would be down for going so bad. Like If there was giant gaming machines and trampolines and intense d and d. Sigh..
Gay clubs with poison and machetes? Man, New York has changed since I moved....
jennifer Segura don't be so hatophobic.

Your intro to your videos is all I need to get through the day

Joe is sooooooo cute..i just want to hug him and make cup cakes for him!

Andrew Tice haha thanks dude!
OMG, the Intro already makes me happy ^^
And I feel like you were doing the eyebrow thing just for me since clearly your eyebrows and I are in a relationship. Haha
I love your vids so much! They always make my day!
Cocky christmas to you guys!
Ive liked your page on facebook for ages now! I dont know how I went so long without subscribing

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T LIKE DANCING?
Man, this is the maddest I've ever been
Not quite a gay club story, as I've never been, but when I came out to a friend online I stopped her picking her nose mid-pick.

Hey hat, do you have any book containing all the comics you've done?... like Kyle's bed and breakfast :)
I occasionally go to clubs because I love to dance. I just don't do it often because it gets so dang late until I'm home...
im actually a doorman to a bar which does gay nights, and im gay too! its a lot of fun and it feels like a safe place to talk to people :)
As a straight man I think I'd only go to gay bars so I could drink the drinks that actual taste good without being judged, or for the confidence boost of being hit on. Either way seems like a win/win to me!

I'm with you, Hat! I just want a Friday with pizza and friends...not loud music and hearing loss
Hats idea of a fun night is the same as mine! Come to Melbourne and we'll get a couple of pizzas and play LoZ.
I'm all about video games and eating pizza.
Hat, I agree it's a lot of your points on this one, so how do you meet people?
Hat, you don't know how much I feel you...
Everything you said about gay clubs also completely applies to... clubs. (straight clubs? regular clubs? You know what I mean.)
Hat, create a new Gay Chat App and call it Banter...
Blake J I'd use it.
Unsolicited nudes and other "agreesive" behavior gets a person suspended, and repeat offenders get executed....
On my first time in a gay bar I ended up totally wasted and paid absolutely nothing for it ~
When I was younger, I loved going to the club/bar. It was a place to be safe and actually get to be myself. Now that I am older, I am not a huge fan of them. I don't mind going every now and then as long as I go with the right people, but not regularly.
And as Hat said, I can totally drink, dance and listen to loud music in the dark from the comfort of my own home.
i've never been to a gay club bc i feel like people there are usually in their early/mid 20s and idk, im 18 and i'm not out yet so i dont really wanna go there by myself. and we dont really have lesbian bars here, so the problem is i have no idea where i could meet gay girls my age

The mug thing was so cute haha
Tina Dolly Thanks! Maybe I'll do a whole episode with just the mugs...
That would be really cute and funny! :)
Your videos are already really cute and funny though lol
It's no better on this side of the pond! Once got cornered by a much bigger madly man in a bar a few years ago. Made awkward small talk. Was all very awkward. All for board games and video games instead! X_x

adventuresingay I'll hold you to it if I'm ever in NY. 😉
I like going to the club or bar. My big and I mostly go just to socialize with all our friends. It is nice to get away from it though and stay home watch Netflix, drink and have dinner. I enjoy going out though.
those mugs are cuter than me

It depends, I should be tipsy and have a bunch of friends with me to enjoy the club. btw your mugs are cute.
I love gay clubs AND stay at home playing videogames, it depends on my mood!
"That sounds gaymazing" xD
sherlock lives baby Joe is silly

Unfortunately, this city that has a very small gay community so there hasn't been enough support to sustain a gay club of any sort. They have tried a few times, all closing within a few months. I never had an experience at a gay club because I was under age at the time.
Drinking and dancing are literally two of my favorite things sooooooo.... yeah I really disagree with Hat lol
Just don't go there expecting to find the man of your dreams, which is what I had to learn the hard way as a young gay ;P
The safety aspect is also important. There's a level of comfort that you won't ever find any where else in the str8 world. You can let your guard down. ps. Love the mugs boys!
Never been at a gay bar... I'm shy, I hate crowded places and dancing xD
pico join the club... our own club that is.
Hat, if you think dark, loud, drunk dance clubs are bad, imagine having this be your only place to socialize during times when smoking was allowed/acceptable.
I go to gay clubs and you and I have a lot in common. Interests in Pokémon, for one.
you just gotta take someone to the ally to interview them or something, lol (usually there is a quiet area where you can go outside the club, for like smoking and stuff, but you don't have to smoke to go there)
hat and I have very similar opinions. Id much rather stay home or go somewhere a bit more tame.
Now shouldn't the tops have the "bottoms up" cups to show to people as in "will you?"?
I'm not a big fan of loud music and some guys in clubs think that the only way to communicate is with... touching me D:
I do volunteering at a gaybar.
I only have experience with the under 18 and -26 one, of course :p
But it's a very nice cafe to be at, to say the least :D
Someone should create gay rec clubs across the nation (that don't seem lame). Like a gay Dave & Buster's! So.. Gayve and Buttster's? I don't know.
In other news, I love dancing, so I enjoy gay clubs alright. The dark lighting and repetitive music is really annoying, though.
CGWacko Haha yes, I would go to Gayve and Buttsters
Scrabble anyone?
OMG HAT IS ME, I AM HAT, PLEASE HAT MARRY ME.
tharcblack oh no, I already agreed to marry another fan!!!!!! sorry dude
That is also my idea of a fun night! X)
Does Joe Worker approve of you using his cup like this?
I like Hat's idea of a fun night :3 i'd eat pizza and play board games with you hat :)
i hate going out, because most of the time, its like being back in high school. cliques, bitchy mean gays.... i have better things to do with my time than to stand around and let someone half my age judge me.
I feel like we should create more gay spaces like clubs, but for things outside of drinking and dancing.
fritter king Mostly through animation related events. I try do things I like doing, and meet people through that.
Dan Savage met his husband at a gay club, but I doubt that is the norm.
I'm not a fan of clubs either. Only club I go to is Sam's Club. Ha. I'm more comfortable at Barnes and Noble or Starbucks.
Gah. I totally agree with Hat. Gay clubs are the worst for meeting people. Where do you meet other folks who like playing board/video games and eating pizza?
Michael Mattice My apartment
adventuresingay or mine ;p
i live in peterborough canada we dont have a gay bar
Gay clubs can be fun and I do go every now and then (read... 4 times a year) when I want to dance and drink but that's usually with friends who I know and are usually female. For all the dark and loud gay guys at clubs still tend to only go after other Caucasian foreigners but maybe that's guy i'm a latino guy in taiwan.
But a night in playing video games/board games and witty banter? Sign me up!
seriously... is there like a waiting list or something?
That is literally what do most of the time, sans any people. But bantering with myself becomes boring sometimes, that guy is a dick sometimes -_-
Yep, I am getting them :P one or me and one for my boyfriend, ha perfect
T. Phillips Aww thanks so much!!!!! It's support from you guys that allows me to continue to do this stuff! So I appreciate it a lot!
Take pics when you get the mugs!
Worst part of gay clubs? Old men staring at you xD
Its funny, as for me I tend to be the youngest guy at them and so I get hit on, purely for that reason it seems.... That and the quality of the Clubs in my area are not the greatest
Terrified of going to a club..
Is that a 5-o'clock-shadow I see on Joe-worker?!
ampersand08 I'd say 4:30 shadow at best
adventuresingay I didn't think he had it in him. So proud.
adventuresingay No pun intended. NO PUN INTENDED.
Hey... cut it out.
Punny.
I wanna play games and eat pizza!!!!!
This is great!!
Alak Magalhães thanks dude!
:-) You're welcome
I missed the animations.
+DoubleEdgeCat Not anymore? (Missed)
I'd rather go hang out at the beach. ~Beach Parties~
Alsandr Ugghhh I hate the beach even more than clubs... don't even get me started.
Sigh..
I'm sorry about laat time hat :( and i'm still in the closet so i don't go to gay clubs...
Yea I don't gay clubs or bars either. Mostly cause I just don't like the music. And the guys that go there aren't my type anyway.
2 gays on a...
Movie.
No!
omgs another one😂😂
katie rose Hope you like it!
