What’s more devastating is that this film takes place in the new X-men timeline that was created in Days of Future Past. That means that no matter what happened the outcome would still see the extinction of the X Men

J.L. Sprinkles it was more sad and heartbreaking watching how broken down and tired Charles and logan were than there actual deaths.
I love the way they did this. It means that initially we don't know what's happening. When Charles doesn't remember he utter's the line, something along the lines of, "Logan, What did you do?", for people who know the Old Man Logan comic you initially assume that this all happened somewhat the way it did in that comic, but then we later get a payoff with the twist that it was actually Charles - really works well. I'm glad that they didn't include the scene, even later as a flashback as I think it would have been too distracting from the Laura story
The westchester incident could be a whole movie by itself. Using elements of Mysterios mind tricks and Xaviers tremors killing everyone as a prequel to logan.
That would be cool!

*Here's two big questions I'm still pondering after having seen Logan, feedback and speculations are welcome:*
*1)* Did Charles develop this degenerative brain disease naturally, was it always going to happen and he just didn't realize until it was too late? Or did Xander Rice's plan with the anti-mutant toxins in food first cause its early stages to start?
*2)* If Charles could access and track the minds of every mutant in the world through Cerebro (or every human, as Stryker's son Jason demonstrated in *X2* ), how did he never once get information from anyone's mind about Rice's plan?
1) an interesting point, which I never concidered, I had assumed naturalybut the anti mutant toxin is not impossible and based on the timeframe that could also be why Logan's healing factor had reduced to the level it had.
2) Charles could track/read minds anywhere using Cerebro but he only used it to try to find mutants to train. Charles would not have got information for several reasons;
he avoided deliberately reading minds
Rice's plan to elimanate mutants was probably known by less than a hunderd people and at most a few thousand, out of 7+ billion, at most one in a million people (and probably far fewer) would have had knowledge of that plan, so Charles could have specificly went looking for knowledge of the plan while in cerebro and not found it.
The chances of stumbeling onto it accidently are literaly millions to 1 against.
*+Terry Forsdyke* Great point regarding Cerebro, it makes sense that he wouldn't investigate the growing lack of mutant births by deliberately searching through and reading everyone's minds against their will. It's also possible that his condition was ironically a result of gradual mental deterioration from all the times he used it over decades.
And Mystique poisoned him with it once before. That accumulative neurological strain is bound to have long-term effects even on a brain as powerful as his, which further justifies why he didn't use it every time it could've easily solved a conflict. Cerebro was always a rather dangerous creation that Charles knew carried heavy potential risks.
Keith this is my theory,Remember that moment in first class where magneto uses a coin to peneatrate shawn skull while charles is controlling is brain?well,I think that was the cause of his is disease because in the movie you can see charles in pain because hes feeling what shawn was feeling and propaly cause some sort of disease in his brain.

I really liked what they did with this movie. Letting us the audience figure out what happened and focusing on the main story, otherwise it will be all about the incident and not about these amazing characters and their relationships and how they dealed with what happened in the past.

my big question is, where was magneto when the seizure happened?

Lilo Pasha my guess is he dies of old age. If he was murdered, it would have been mentioned in the movie. If he was alive, he would have been mentioned

Logan has the most dramatic and sad life ever.
In the other hand I think his attitude is inspirational
The fact that Logan woke up in 2023 at the end of days of future past where everyone is alive, but then only had 5/6 years before everyone else gets killed by Xavier is sad

Justin Bieber he was physically harmed to the extent that his healing factor couldn't heal him anymore. He also overdosed on the green drug (forgot what the name was)
He was impaled from his belly
Justin Bieber like all things with time, bodily functions subside with age. In this case, his powers subsided. Nothing lasts forever. Mutants will die one day. Logan was getting older and his powers were declining. In addition, he was told not to overdose on the medication he was given, but he did. The affects of it gave him a vey limited quick rush, but as it too would subside with time, his body couldn't continue to function at that rate anymore and it accelerated his mortality.

He'll eventually crawl out of dirt if somehow they convince Hugh Jackman to reprise the role again.
This is the prime reason I hated this movie. Days of Future past was the perfect ending but then here comes this. The xmen were taken out by a damn seizing Charles. Like really? After all they been through to survive jus for them to go out like that
I don't like having to guess or think of theories while watching a movie, I want things straightforward, so yeah, I would have very much appreciated to see the westchester incident either at the beginning of the movie or as flashbacks during it , I had to start watching videos like this one after watching the movie in order to fully understand what te hell happened in this film , it was very good but tragic as well and I didn't like the fact that they didn't show this incident at all

I came to the cinema expecting Logan to have killed the X-Men (like it happened in the comics).
In the beginning he does not tell Charles what happened, so I thought that Logan is keeping it secret to protect his butt.
But we saw the hotel scene mid-movie.
AND THEN I saw the TV report and realised just how wrong I was.
It hit me even harder than major deaths.
Maybe they'll flush it out with sequels.
You might like things straightforward but most people prefer subtlety
I would of likes to have seen it aswell if this is the last xmen movie it should be explained not so we get hints at what happend
people really don't understand the movie? fuck....the timeline isn't even as confusing as they make it out to be either....pay attention to the movies it's all there......this movie was the best one in my opinion btw...just the perfect end to an epic franchise
First of all, THANKS Boba for a job well done!!! Your explanation was a pleasure to listen to! I'm a subscriber, now. Secondly, I like the way the movie opened. Showing the actual Westchester event at the beginning would have made the rest of the movie kind of bland. I would, however, like to have seen some flashbacks of the event...maybe 1 or 2 of the X-men or students dying as Prof. X has a seizure. I pieced together what had taken place leading up to Logan but I somehow missed any reference to some sort of anti-mutant agent put in the food supply by the government. I'll have to watch it again. That was a big downer for me, not knowing why mutants weren't being born any longer. Thanks for the insight. So, yeah, flashbacks of the Westchester incident would have really been cool. One thing I didn't like is the Prof. using the word F***. It shocked me and it just seemed out of place I guess you could say. Again, job well done!!!

I just watched Logan for the third time, and after watching, I think it would have been better if the movie explained the incident a little more
So the westchester event happened 1 year before logan which is why im thinking honestly i think over time the stuff they were putting in the food and other products was not only preventing births of new mutants but harming current ones in the process cause while absolutely logan is being poisoned by his own body maybe its also being weakened cause if it was only a year before the movie i dont think his condition would have been all to different i dont think he aged 40 years in the span of one even so i feel like even tho charles is 90 theres more at play besides just that idk ive re watched it and they have been giving alot of subtle clues and stuff and it feels like there hinting at something else and idk they definitely left out a bunch of info on purpose but im lime %99 is gonna be this logan in dp3
You cant change deaths outcome, you might change what happens before it but if youre meant to die then you will die some way. And sadly thats what happened, they thought they saved everyone in futures past but inevitably they still died
I thought the several hundred injured and 7 killed was directly after the casino incident and the radio referenced an earlier incident at Westchester that killed 400 people.
Westchester incident, seven mutants were killed and I believe 600 people injured or dead. No one was stated to have died at the casino, just injuries.

I'm dissapointed with the ending of X-Men we didn't even see wolverine wearing his original costume and fighting bad guys and even no Gambit he's one of my favorite x-men character too wolverine, Gambit and rogue love team. Even Rogue her super strength and flying.... TOO BAD!!!! all of their orignal costume like the cartoon series before 1980's X-MEN cyclops, jean grey and others..

The reason that the seizure when on long enough was because it was the first one he had and they had no idea that he was going to have seizure so how did they make a cure if it was unexpected and everyone was frozen except Logan
Yup - because of that he fooked over a lot of people ;P As for a cure, they just got meds for him to treat seizures for future times it might happen.

Why didn’t charles distant himself or commit suicide in order to stop these from happening when it first started? This is very inconsistent with his ideology. I would have guessed that he would sacrifice his own life in order to save others every single time.
I think the idea is that the first time it happened it was at the school, and some people died as a result and so from there he distanced himself with Logan.

I think it was a very perceptive decision not to start the movie with the incident and would have resulted just how the director said it would. I wouldn't have minded for there to be a flash back of sorts, detailing Charles recalling the incident however for all I know this would have resulted in the film feeling distracted from Logan's story arch so maybe it was for the best

That was such a dramatic shift but I also think that is why Logan accepted the job initially along with the money. Charles Xavier was the happiest he has ever been so Logan thought okay I'll take the job. Then when he discovered the coordinates were from the comic I think one of the main reasons he was so angry was not only because it was a waste of time but also because it would destroy Charles worse than anything else. My question is were the coordinates just one to follow or did someone specifically place the coordinates there
The nurse and children got the coordinates to Eden from an X-Men comic book. Logan stated that most of the stuff written in those comic books were bullshit and never happened, and Eden was one of them. So yeah, it's most likely those coordinates were just put there for entertainment purposes by the comic book writers. BUT, there still is the possibility that there is something there at those coordinates.

Yeah, I'm with you. Very clearly in the movie it says on the radio that the Westchester Event was one year ago, not "many years ago". Kept throwing me off when this otherwise interesting video kept saying that clear mistake.
Definitely happened one year prior to the events in Logan. I also remember that the mutants had been poisoned, so their powers were already waning when Prof X had his epic seizure that killed them all. The poison damaged Logan's rapid healing abilities explaining why Logan can now age and why his adamantium is now slowly killing him. He needs alcohol to dull the pain that he is constantly in. This was really a wonderful film, a true masterpiece.
Andres Calderon I hope you are right, I don't see how Jean Grey could die from that, she's stronger than him, and Jean Grey was killing people by accident in the comics first

You assume that Magneto is even alive in the 2023 timeline. He is not shown, nor is Mystique. We do not know their fates when the timeline is reset.

This movie should've had flashbacks while Prof. X was having seizures, with all neighboring X-Men dead beside him. I mean, it's cool and all to hint and tease about the plot, but it helps with the flow of the story, even for those who've read the comics. Besides that, Logan was badass for all the scenes with his claws out, ammiright??
There will be more x men movies set after apocalypse, if they explained everything those movies will be ruined.

I think leaving out the Westchester incident was brilliant, because it would've revealed way too much. Leaving it out definitely makes the watcher interested and try to piece together what the world is like now. The movie also does a great job at gradually giving away clues to piece together what happened to get a raw picture of what happened as the movie progresses.
It's unfortunate that we'll never see on screen what exactly happened but I also think not seeing that event on screen makes gives it even more tragic. It's for everyone to speculate now how that event went down.
wait in days of future past when hank says that they might not be able to change the future caise of the river always flowing in the same direction does this mean that charles killing the x men is a result of wolverine stopping the sentinels as the x men still need to die for the river to carry on flowing
That’s what i first thought of, but now i think it’s just the people, Magneto was right, there was never a chance for mutants to live among humans, no matter how much Charles tried, the future always gonna be bad because of the hatred and fear in ordinary people
During this video, i theorized that cerebro (the machine professor x uses to find mutants) is somehow involved in the westchester incident. Think about it. It makes more sense if cerebro overpowered Charles head during his seizure (maybe his first seizure?) Forcing his powers to be spread so far throughout all of westchester and killing those that may have been trying to stop it or those that were closest to him (physically, i mean). Thoughts on this theory are always appreciated!

Once i realized what happened while watching this movie i felt heartbroken. Charles xavier the one who looked at these people as his students, his children, his team only for him to be unwillingly responsible for their deaths all due to him having some sort of degenerative brain disease. Logan trying his best to keep this heartbreaking information from him, to protect his father/mentor. Truly a heartbreaking story, but also a story with a hopeful ending with potiential mutants who can take up the mantle of the x-men again and be the heroes the world will inevitably need in the future.

I think the fact that they didn't include a flashback scene just added more suspense to my experience. It was a sort of mystery to me and several different clues indicated that it was Charles' seizure that killed all the X-Men. I think if they added a flashback it would have taken the mystery of that underlying story and it would not have given the movie viewers their own imagination of how it all happened.

@@CephlonMayngrum No, he meant the original Xmen trilogy actors, not the prequel actors. This takes place in 2029, after the original X-men DOFP ending, it would have featured Halle Berry, Anna Pacquin, James Marsden, etc.

They should've showed the Westchester incident; it would've added some much needed context and colour to the film. It was quite depressing and felt empty without any other core characters making an appearance. As much as Wolverine is the X-Men's centerpiece the movies have shown he's not strong enough by himself and he works better as part of a team of super powered characters.

The thing is, we know in general how many died. But we don't know who all is still here. We know scott and the beast etc are still alive from deadpool. But we don't know who's all alive. It's so weird for them to do all these movies and days of future past just for everyone to be dead
This movie was really disappointing due to the lack of actual information and it forcing us to be confused the whole 2 hours of watching the movie
the xmen died due to an ilussion of mysterios and made wolverine wipe out the xmen then when he found out what he had done it scared him.and thats why he is how he his in this film

The part that confused me as well was Jean Grey was at the end of DOFP when logN woke up but she died in the dark pheonix which took place after the days of future past… can anyone explain this part to me as well?

I like to think Magneto was wearing the helmet but Charles was so powerful that the helmet did nothing.
I think the best way to have put that in was through a anniversary. As logan comes home, the radio is playing a broadcast remembering those that died suddenly on that tragic day...
There should have been a short 10 minute scene at the start of the movie showcasing the events that happened before the main storyline.

The food poisoning makes so much sense on why they used Mexican women as mothers. Because places like Mexico wouldn’t be food poisonined. So the mothers give birth to strong mutants due to the lack OF mutants & cause their body’s were pure

If you need to look at external sources to “figure out” a story plot hole, then you’ve failed to tell a story.
Because leaving it to interpretation doesn’t work in this context as a fan / casual fan who has followed the X men movies and we reach the finale wondering where everyone is!?
Logan feels like X-men 10… when the last time we saw everybody seemingly normal was X men days of future past ending which was X men 5-6.. basically jumped 4 stories and no explanation.
The Westchester Event couldn’t have been that long ago as the movie Days of Future Past takes place in 2023. And I believe at the end of the movie Logan changed history and the X-Men were still alive and Professor X seemed ok. Logan takes place in 2029. That means that the Westchester Event had to happen during those short 6 years in between. Seeing as how it all seems like ancient history, I’d say it would have had to have happened very soon after Days of Future Past. Logan went through all that trouble to save his friends only to see Charles kill them all a few months/years later.

I love how they really treid to ground logan so much into the real world, breaking the 4th wall and also giving our heros a real ending.

Prefer director's way. Don't want to watch a Mutant Graphic Novel with no hope! It seems writers have become SADIST and simply like to create an inspiring super hero that stands for something in which we love and then brutally kill then off because that's Life. They forget that we turn to comics, fiction and Movies to escape the horrible realities of our own life, but the Bastards can't even give us that. Life becomes more pitiful when we can no longer escape into a Movie and find fictional hope. F them too! Guess I'll just quit going!

I appreciate you making this video to help me make more sense of what happened. It really kind of breaks my heart that someone couldn’t write a better ending than this. We are talking legends amongst so many generations of people. I watched X-Men cartoons as a kid and to find out now I’m middle-aged and they all just kinda died because one of them had a seizure..? That’s a tough pill to swallow. Poor writing in my opinion. I wish they would’ve hired someone better to do the job.
If dead pool apart of the Logan timeline by they showed the new x man but in that world Charles killed them

the report on the radio stated that the westchester incident happened over a year ago, it caused 600 injuries and killed 7 mutants.
Would’ve been awesome to see mysterio trick Wolverine, spiderman villains are the best and always will be
