      Instead of a nintendo i got the Sega Master System too, with Hang-on. That game used to frustrate the shit out of me as a kid. Now that I'm older and ride a motorcycle I realized how bad ass this game was.

    This comes from the second version of the Sega Master System, distributed starting in 1988 by Minnetonka, Minnesota-based Tonka Corporation after Sega of America realized they were unable to compete against the huge Nintendo Entertainment System. Sega thought Tonka could do better. They were wrong, as Tonka had no experience selling video games. By September 1989, Sega and Tonka parted ways right at the moment Sega of America began selling the Sega Genesis.

    • @francois-patrickarteau6511

      This version with the built-in game was distributed and marketed starting in 1988 by Minnetonka-based Tonka Corporation, known back then for their yellow-colored toy trucks and for two brands: Go-Bots (licensed from Bandai) and Pound Puppies (created by Mike Bowling and first sold in Canada by Toronto's Irwin Toy, before Tonka acquired the worldwide rights). It says Sega From Tonka on the back of the box. Sega thought Tonka would be their saver after failing to compete against the NES, however, Tonka had no experience selling video games and it quickly became apparent!

    If the Master System itself comes with Hang On and Safari Hunt, then chances are the games need cleaning. The same thing happened when I bought Sonic 1 and Sonic Chaos for the SMS but they worked fine after being cleaned.

    @ClassicTVFan82 the Snail Maze game was in all SMS consoles with the Version 1.3 BIOS, the only thing you had to do was when the instructions popped up, just push up, 1, and 2 at the same time, and the instructions will move to the left to make way for the Snail Maze game.

    I was given a second hand Master System and I used to play this game a bit, not bad for when it was released. The original Master System had better built in games than the Master System II, which I understand came with Alex Kidd, I'd much rather play Hang On, and Safari Hunt.

    It most likely did, it came built in with Safari Hunt on some Master Systems. It was also sold by itself (on cartridge and card) with Safari Hunt on cartridge and with Astro Warrior on cartridge. This video is off the built in game in the console.

    @coenak  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well thank you. I appreciate your comment! Yeah, in the US most people don't even know what the Master System is. I only know one other person that had one and everyone else has no clue. They say, "Sega had a console before the Genesis?"

  • @inthefade
    @inthefade 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    why was the master system so much better than the nes?! I only remember actually playing one once in my life, and I didn't get a good impression of it because the only games we played were utter crap. But all the vids on TH-cam make it look great compared to the NES.

    To beat this thing you have to do 8 loops of the same track over and over again!!! It says Course 1...then after it says Congratulations it starts over from the beginning and you have to do it all again...but it says Course 2......Course 3.....etc....when it says Course 8....that's the last loop......

    @coenak dont worry you werent the only one with the sega ms, while all my friends had the nes, my parents bought me the sega master. Obviously ive played hang on and safari hunt, i also had kung fu kid, my hero, the ninja (as you can see i loved martial arts games as a kid), out run, wonder boy and a bunch of others.. I always thought sega had better games and graphics but hey.. its like PC and MAC, quality doesnt always win the popularity game, its all on the marketing.

  • @retrosoul8770

    Holy cow, does it really run this smooth on a Master System? The Master System was for sure more powerful than the Nes. If only the MS was able to have the 3rd party support the Nes had, I think it would have been more successful and the Genesis would have had a better launch.

    The SMS was technically better than the NES. But I think NES had better games. Though there are some gems like the Wonder Boy III - The Dragon's Trap. It was my favorite game, and I played it alot back in the day. I did have some more games. I played them all regularly. Maybe I should get a Mega Sg to play them all again. I would hope Sage came up with a Master System Mini. I hope.
