This was from her debut album somewhere about 1972 or so. In 1976 she did a live show where she sang this song after telling a story sbout "Fried Eggs". If you can find that video it'll give you an idea of the kind if entertainer she is. She's pure energy, wild, racy, often vulgar, but also capable of taking you from laughter to tears in a heartbeat. She's done many live concerts, some of which are still available on dvd/blu-ray. She's also git some massive movie hits : The Rose, Beaches, Down snd Out in Beverly Hills, Outrageous Fortune, For the Boys, Hocus Pocus and First Wives Club. She is multi-talented and completely unique.
This song was written by John Prine, and he was very prolific and talented. Sadly, he died during Covid. You may want to look up some of his other songs.
I agree with you on this one. Bette Midler has a great voice but the acoustics seem to be bad on this song. Joan Baez does a really beautiful job on this song. Please check it out along with some other Joan Baez songs. My favorite of hers is “Diamonds and Rust”. Others are: “Simple Twist of Fate”; “Jesse”; “Song of Bangladesh”; “A Stranger in My Place”; “Fountain of Sorrow”; “Winds of the Old Days” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”. 😊😊😊💕💜💕💜💕💜
I agree, this is not good is no indicator of Bette Midler's voice and talent. She had a couple very popular songs that were played a lot on the radio. The Rose (I think the studio version is better than the live) and Wind Beneath My Wings. They're both very beautiful and she can really belt it out. She's got a beautiful, powerful voice. Don't let this recording here be your only experience of her music. ✌🏽
