    00:00 Loro Piana Cashmere Introduction
    When talking about luxury cashmere, Loro Piana may immediately come to mind, being a well-established Italian fabric brand.
    Loro Piana today goes way past cashmere. They have vicuña from the Andes or lotus flowers. They have a large range of fabrics with wool from New Zealand, and they manufacture their own goods. But, chances are, if someone mentions “high-end cashmere,” they will have heard of Loro Piana.
    02:15 The History of Loro Piana
    Loro Piana was a family and they began as wool merchants in the Piedmont region of Italy around 1814. At that time, they simply imported completed fabrics. They didn’t weave anything themselves.
    06:01 Loro Piana Today
    Loro Piana remains to have two divisions. The one is fabric manufacturing, where they turn raw materials into fabric that isn’t either used by their own brand or sold outside. The other division is their garment and accessory manufacturing arm, where they use Loro Piana fabrics exclusively to create their own branded goods.
    07:30 The Loro Piana Ethos
    If you look at Loro Piana’s advertising, you can see it’s very simplistic, containing high-end photography in rare globe-trotting adventure locations with idealized clients that are supposed to invoke this lifestyle of a high-end jetsetter. Sometimes, they also feature the animals the fibers are derived from in the advertisements to portray themselves as an artisanal grade manufacturer that has a connection and that vertical integration between the animal and the final product.
    08:48 Loro Piana Cashmere
    Loro Piana is the single largest cashmere buyer in the world and also is credited with popularizing the fabric with the masses. If you check out their website, you can see that they mentioned that they have local relationships with herders to ensure the highest quality or the finest cashmere. But, if you look for more detail, it’s hard to find specific herding standards.
    12:25 Loro Piana Styling
    We think they usually have more of a neutral palette, lots of solids, and more contemporary, fashion-forward, not really classically-inspired style. Their outerwear is a bit more bright with a bit more color. We think the cut of their stuff isn’t particularly exciting or high-end.
    14:05 Cashmere Products and Price
    If you browse their website, you can see 100% cashmere products or blended products with silk, cotton, or wool. Overall, I would say the website provides more information than at, let’s say, Louis Vuitton, which is nice to see.
    18:14 Is Loro Piana Cashmere Worth It?
    In a nutshell, Loro Piana fabric is worth it if you want the best and you don’t care about money. It’s usually also worth it if you find it secondhand. But, if you go the extra mile and you want 100% cashmere, you probably also want the fit to be 100%, so chances are that you have to go custom anyway.

    I think that Loro Piana offers great options as a fabric as opposed to their ready-to-wear options. Having garments made with LP fabrics offers far more value than most of the items created by Loro Piana themselves. I would love to see further explorations of fabric from Fox Brothers, Holland & Sherry, etc in the future

    • @HotDilf
      @HotDilf ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The only item "worth" buying is LP's made-in-house cashmere jumpers, because they save the best cashmere yarns for their own label. The fabric supplying business exists as a whole another division, and even though yarns are marketed as LP, the quality is remarkably inferior to the yarn reserved for their own house brand jumpers.

    • @regsantotomas

    I agree that more description of the effort that goes into making their product better is not how they are selling the brand. The brand is simply trusted for their superiority, and expecting them to prove it is mercantile. The market is those who don't have to think about the cost very much, and aren't concerned about bargains or measured values.

    Don't think I'd ever buy a Loro Piano branded coat. You can get a bespoke tailor on Savile Row to make you that 30k overcoat for less than half and end up with a better fit. I have a couple of jackets from Huntsman with Loro Piana fabric:, a lightweight seersucker for summer that's surprisingly durable and very breathable and a rust colored tweed jacket with an action back. Very happy with them and both were far cheaper than what the local Loro Piana boutique has to offer.
    For future videos I'd love to see a review of Fox Brothers. They've got some amazing flannels and tweeds and I'm curious to learn more about Fox Air. Dormeuil also has some pretty nifty stuff but that may be a little modern for your general aesthetic.

    Thank for for the detailed video! I enjoyed the in depth content; however, I feel there were many missed points.
    I believe it is imperative to note that Loro Piana is owned by LVMH as their RTW line is slowly moving away from classical pieces to modern and less tasteful designs. Thus, it would be nice to have comparisons to companies not owned by the LVMH conglomerate; such as, Brunello or Zegna.
    I currently own a Loro Piana piece produced by my tailor; however, I am considering a RTW item which includes storm system or rain system because it sounds very interesting! It would be very nice if you could provide high end fabric alternatives to storm/rain system.
    Thank you again, and I can't wait for the video on Brunello or Zegna.

    Well, LP has it's own style. And we have to respect that. The house style is contemporary classic and reflects modern gentleman very much, in my opinion anyway. Quality is top notch and so is the price.
    What I personally appreciate the most is: no evident branding, extremely comfortable, relaxed and up to date style. One thing to mention separately is understatement. You can easily wear $20K on you and most will hardly notice.
    Price/quality ration? Well, this is a luxury brand. If we're not talking about exclusive fabrics like vicuna, prices are hardly higher than those of other luxury brands. But if one is looking for a much better price to quality ration there are many premium brands offering 80-90% of the quality for 40-50% of the price.

    I was curious so I checked out their website and their Outerwear prices...I had to look twice at those prices..definitely some unique pieces, but I saw a regular looking bomber jacket you could buy at Banana Republic priced at $9k, an overshirt/shacket for $9,900...looks like it's a brand for those with more $$ than sense or so much money they just don't care...good for them, obviously someone is buying their goods.

  • @Manuel421
    @Manuel421 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not really related to the video but just curious. If a Blazer is 80%Wool 20%Linen does that make it highly breathable for warmer weather or is it better to wait when it's cooler to wear it? I'd have to check again if it's unlined but it does say that the fabric is performance. It features patch pockets therefore making it more casual. Thanks for the content as always.

    • @ebdaniels8774
      @ebdaniels8774 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In many ways, weave is more important than material when it comes to breathability. The 20% linen makes me think that the weave is likely more open, and therefore good for warmer weather, but the easy way to check is to hold it up to the light, put your hand behind the fabric, and see if you can see your hand. The more "sheer" the fabric, the more open the weave, and therefore the more breathable. Obviously if it's unlined that will also make it more breathable.

    • @Manuel421
      @Manuel421 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ebdaniels8774 I appreciate the insight good sir. Absolutely! It gets extremely hot out here so honestly a Jacket isn't always needed but sometimes I still want to wear one for informal occasions. Most casual days though I'll skip it and just wear a Linen or Polo with Wool trousers or Chinos but the 80% Wool 20% Linen Blazer says that it is performance which normally I suppose means moisture wicking? I'm not sure if it is unlined but will definitely check again as I stated above. My unlined Cotton Blazers are definitely amazing for warm weather but could still wear them with a sweater underneath during the cold months as well.
