India’s historical legacy is replete with majestic temples and sophisticated architecture. However, it is painful to witness these societal treasures being reduced to ruins. The scenario in Hosagunda is no different !. Tucked away in a remote corner of the Western Ghats, Hosagunda’s beautiful temples have been all but lost to neglect. Once the land of royal dynasties, Hosagunda is a place of historical & religious importance, with many temples dating back a thousand years.
It was in the year 1991 when Shri. CMN Shastry moved his place, Puttur, South Kanara District, to Hosagunda. Through his family contacts he was able to institute a farm house for his peaceful retirement life. When the things were set, within a year Shri. Shastry started experiencing many bitter situations in and around his farm house region, which were really unsual. Being a strong believer of religious and spiritual existence, Shri. Shashtry shared the incidents with famous Pundit and spiritual expert Shri. Katte Parameshwar Bhat. He requested Shri. Bhat to visit the farm and guide them. Shri. Bhat adviced the restoration of the Shiva Temple in the midst of the forest, adjacent to the farm house of Shri. Shastry. When Shri. Shastry shared the incidents and the words from Shri. Bhat with the neighbours and people around, he was strongly supported by them. When they insisted him to be the leader of “the cause”, he readily accepted this awe inspiring opportunity. Soon Shri. Shastry, along with the mates, formed Sri. Umamaheshwara Seva Trust, a charitable trust to work on the renovation of Sri. Umamaheshwara Temple. When things were going right, there was a sudden death of Shri. Shashtry’s father, in a road accident. The announced president of the charitable trust also met a fatal decease. An “Ashta Mangala Prashna ” was organised, with famous Astrologers from Kerala. Soon the purification of the Temple was done and the regular worshipping of Sri. Umamaheswara commenced. And, thus began Shri. Shastry’s endeavour of renovation of temples, spirituality, humanty and peace.
Hosagunda is waiting for a breath of freshness and prosperity, waiting to realize the dream of renovation and reconstruction and reinventing of lost splendor. To convert this place into "an abode of peace", a paradise for every human inclination - for peace; for religious and spiritual inclination; for reliving a bygone era; for experiencing nature and for plain clean fun. Thus making it a "MUST VISIT" place for everyone.
