Thanks for sharing. I have a bunch of dwarf red and salavatski pomegranate and they never set fruit as well. My friend did get 1 fruit from the dwarf red but it's an ornamental cultivar so it doesn't taste that good anyway. I hope that you can figure it out soon.

Pomogranates need winter chill hours to fruit , so letting them go dormant for as long as they want will help allot, also they need as much sun as you can give them they won’t fruit if they don’t get enough sunlight and heat! Especially for northern growers.

Great video Ross. I'm a huge believer in comfrey. I'm in the process of planting it under all my fruit trees. You can make a great liquid feed with comfrey...I did a video on how to do that....but lots of great videos on here on how to do it.

We had a rough spring this year with a lot of thrips. I'm probably at least a month away from my first tip pruning. Been thinning the trees already and they're mostly looking pretty good. One of our flowering plums has grown almost 4' this year. Hard pruning really makes your trees vigorous, which can help them push through spring pest problems. Can be helpful getting a young tree sized up, but older or more vigorous trees definitely need the summer haircuts to keep them reasonably sized. I don't have any full size root stocks, but I could understand mostly doing summer pruning to keep them from getting huge.
Our salavatski made it through the first 6b winter like a champ. Leafed out pretty late (mid April). I doubt I will get fruit due to having a shorter season. I have it next to the house for screening afternoon sun. They're pretty trees.

They are pretty. Still need a year or two before mine flowers reliably.

Regarding dropping the tree trimmings under the trees. It makes sense from a compost perspective, but the first rule pretty much any extension gives about treating tree diseases is to gather the material and burn it or send it to a landfill to avoid spreading the disease. Have you had any issues with disease? We inherited a sad cherry tree that never got pruned, and was perpetually infested with brown rot. I severely reshaped the canopy and meticulously cleaned everything up and burned it; this is the first year it has really done well (but only 1 cherry due to the late frost.)

I haven't dealt with brown rot yet. If the prescribed method is to dispose of the wood to help with the disease, then I will do that. Really any diseased wood should be disposed of. Otherwise... just put it right under the tree. Chop & drop is at the core of permaculture.

Also, are you getting better results with summer pruning vs. spring pruning like you did on your persimmon? Or does it depend on the type of tree?

Summer pruning across the board seems to aid in producing fruit buds. It does depend on what it is. I did some minor summer pruning for shaping on my persimmon trees just a few days ago.

when is the best time to do summer pruning for milder weather like California. Is it too late in say June when the leaves are established and fruit buds visible?

In your last video, you talked about Carmine Goumi berry plants. Do you have any cuttings for sale?
