  • This is a collection of 5 videos I've uploaded consisting of simply home video footage of Opryland Theme Park that used to be in Nashville. The other day when I was out at the Oprymills / Hotel area it just made me sad seeing the remains of the Grizzly River Rampage. As I've gotten older I've realized how much I miss the park and dearly wish they didn't tear it down only to replace it with a mall.
From as early as I can remember, my family would get season passes every year and spend many many days here during the summer. It didn't have the rides that Six Flags did, but it still had a magical feel about it that I think benefited Nashville very much.
These videos come from two different years; 1 in 1989..and the other is 1990 (i think). Both are in the Fall and you will notice the halloween themes. I remember this being a fun time at Opryland. Still nothing beat just the good hot days of summer.
The 5th video (5 of 5) contains a trip on the train ride. I added a few titles of specific rides/places as we pass by them.
Enjoy! Feel free to leave comments of your memories at Opryland.

The line to chaos... Struggle was real. Like over an hour wait in line. Fun times. Enjoyed this park from 1978 til 1987

I remember the line could be extremely long at times but i feel like my memory of it was that it’d go pretty fast since the coaster train held so many people. The line that seemed to take forever was the one for the Grizzly!

The sounds of Cannonball and the sounds that only anybody that worked it would pick up on. The specific clatter of the lift as the last couple of cars topped the lift and the roar. It beat your ears to death. LOL. And running two coasters on the track meant you were busy busy! Riders would hope they got the red coaster or the blue coaster because they thought it was faster.

seywhut2985 everyone knows the red one was faster....lol. jk. Love that ride and miss this park

Yes the glorious sounds of Cannonball. I would stand in line and would be scared, telling my cousin and my friends I don't want to ride itx I want to get out of the line and I'd keep waiting till the last minute. Then I'd ride and be the first to say let's go again.

unless someone can tell me otherwise, that is me at 3:40. our baby girl was born in february '89 and that's our identical stroller along with same pink blanket, my clothes, my dreadful haircut & shades and my super handsome, super tanned husband looking on on the other side of the bench with my aunt evelyn. we had passes every year until the park closed. we've been married going on 33 years now. same daughter is now 27 with a baby of her own and aunt evelyn has passed. if i'm wrong, please let me know.

Brought tears to my eyes seeing the little waterfall area in front of the Christmas store. I knew that park, like that back of my hand and it was home to me, for 3 years working on the CMUSA stage. I felt that the park would always be there for my children to see, but it was torn down and NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN!!! It was like a Historic monument of our Country or something. So precious of a place for magical memories.

thanks for the comments. I feel the exact same way. I grew up as a child having season passes here every summer and many memories of my mom, older brother and sometimes friends spending the entire day here. I have a two year old now and would love to have been able to take him here as he grew up. it's so crazy how the sounds of these videos can evoke the memories of this place. take care. -Michael

I was scared the first time I ever rode CHAOS !!! After then - I discovered how it was my favorite coaster I've ever been on. I sure miss being able to go to Opryland.

+Tania Lee ...as well as the smell of the water from the water rides. Which wasn't necessarily a good smell...but would be very nostalgic if you smelled it again. :)

And catching the sound of "Ain't That A Shame" playing in the 50's area. The American Graffiti sound track that played endlessly. To this day I can't hear one of the song off that soundtrack and not know what's coming up next. LOL. We'd play the "air brake boogie" on the brakes on coaster to "Johnny B Goode." LOL. And I had forgotten all about halloween. I think it was the 1990 year that I was Homer Simpson and Ginger Davenport was Marge. LOL

I enjoyed these videos! I was 7 in 1989; we used to visit Opryland and the Smokies usually every other year. I still remember hearing the news that it was closing & getting torn down in order to build a mall! My heart broke & my mom just couldn't understand why I was so upset. I have been to that mall several times, and yeah it's a good way to spend the day, but it doesn't even come close to spending a day in Opryland!

Wow! It's wild seeing how everyone dressed back then/hair styles, etc. and how we are now. I worked at Opryland in 1995 when I was 15.

Cool, i didn't know Opryland had a Corkscrew coaster. Wish i was a teenager back then, instead of being one in the mid 90's. I would've ridden it over & over again! I rode the Corkscrew that was at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion over & over..before they got that crappy Hurricane coaster. The Corkscrew was a short & sweet coaster, but still alot of fun to ride!
