I watched the video yesterday that you made on caravan life. You did not make any judgements on people living in other types of van. You said several times that you were just pointing out different ways of living in a caravan and the pitfalls there can be. You also said you were not making any judgements on how others live in vans. They will probably be offended that you only apologized twice. There was nothing to apologize for. I thought the video was helpful if you were thinking of doing this. In this day and age people seem to go out of their way to be offended for some or any reason. These videos are very helpful. Thank you so much. Keep it up.

The only heating we had in the 60’s was an oil fired heater and we would sit in bed with mum, she knitted and we read books whilst listening to the radio, the goons, tails from the riverbank. My sister knocked the oil heater over and burnt the back of her hand, mum lathered axrifex over her hand and there is no mark. Summertime was spent playing with kids in the fields.

Hi Ivan, the way to tell if it is a lefthand thread is that the hex of the nut has a notch on it all the way round. Also try to use a spanner to move it as those stilsons will mess that brass nut up quickly! Hope this helps, all the best.
Our gas bottles are about £90 on our site but they come and put another bottle on when we are ready.which saves any hassle. Keep on doing the videos Ivan, Love em all !!!!

Ivan l forgot to mention about what my friends do that might be of help when you have to vacate your static Caravan for a while. For years they have been registered with a company that uses them as 'house-sitters' so that they look after peoples property/pets etc while the home owners are away. All they have to do is provide their own transport and food, every thing else is provided by the home owners. My friends who are a couple are very much in demand as they are regarded as very reliable and have a clean Police Record which is a requirement of contract. They love it and have 'looked' after some very big property. The company who do this say the more skills you can offer is better for placement, ie car drivers, lover of animals, pets, horses, even gardener skills so the home owners know their gardens will be taken care of while they are away. The company puts them on a placement of what they can offer the home owners, your skill as a gardener and driver l think would be in demand. Might be worth thinking about and be a solution to the weeks you have to vacate
Maybe get one of those ceiling fans with lights. I lived in Cyprus and they were a godsend through the night on a slow setting just to create a breeze and make things more comfortable. During the day in hot weather you can sit outside under a shade but nights are difficult.
Hay Ivan. 20 yrs ago we lined our boat with thinsulate. It's made by 3 m. .we haven't looked back. It's ABIT on the pricey side initially but well worth it . 👍
Hi, on the subject of having an auto change over valve, just make sure you buy a good one and not a cheap Chinesium knock off version. They are £135 on the Calor gas web site. I live in rural North Wales and loads of people have two gas bottles with a auto change over valve, cause as you say, who wants to be out on a dark, cold, rainy night trying to change over a bottle. Also as an engineer who`s used and still uses all sorts of gas bottles all the time, there`s just two things I would suggest. Firstly, don`t use that spanner you had in the video, either buy an adjustable spanner with flat smooth jaws or even better buy a spanner the correct size to fit the valve! As the valve nut is made out of Brass, that spanner you had will round off the edges and damage it too much, and you can get brass splinters in your fingers from the damage! And even more important is to leak test around the valve after you changed the bottle! You can easily leave a bottle leaking slightly and that is both dangerous and costly in money terms. You can buy leak test spray, but a washing up liquid solution will work perfectly. Keep up the good work . Shaun.

Really interesting video Ivan. l like how you are getting as much prep done before the Winter. l asked hubby how much our gas bill was last month. He said we pay our gas & electric together, it was £130. l think if we changed tariffs it would be cheaper, but we like the supplier we are with. We have a small bungalow. On average its just a little more in costs in Winter, but not much as i'm extremely frugal on how we use the utilities. One thing l did do when we down sized from 3 bedroom house here 6 yrs ago was to make sure we had alternative heating & cooking in case of any emergency. We have a gas cooker here but l bought 2 slow cookers in case at any time our gas got cut off. Also If our gas & electric got turned off at same time l bought a small camping stove & stocked up on disposable bbq's & even bought a small wood burning chimnea for outside in case of emergency. l stocked up on candles & matches. l bought 2 large indoor tea light metal lanterns & second hand pottery tea light cottages, they get very hot & give off a lot of warmth in one room. We both have an emergency ' to go' bags prept that l keep in spare room with 3 days supply of clothes etc. They are in small 'pull a long' suitcases on wheels for ease of use instead of back packs, as we are elderly. l restock our 'flu & cold' basket that l can just pull out of cupboard & put on bedside table if ill. Came in very useful when we both had Covid at same time. In fact l have a Winter ' to do list' that l check off in the Autumn. l make a new Winter blanket, hat/gloves etc from recycled wool every yr , starting in the Autumn while watching tv , all ready for the following Winter. l remember the energy strikes in early 1970's & we had no gas/electric, & the terrible snow had in the 80's. Things are very unpredictable, always best to be prepared.
I used to use gas heating in my old one but discovered Chinese diesel heaters and ran 2 on kerosene @ 50p per litre Like toast and used to cost £3 for 24 hours
Thought previous discussions confirmed NOT to use the gas fire in winter due to condensation. Gas would be good if used to heat with boiler and radiators. You can get magnetic (temperature sensitive) labels to stick on side of gas cylinder to indicate gas level. The use of gas causes a reduction in the gas cylinder pressure = reduction in temperature. This can be seen on cooler days by frost or condensation forming on the outside of the gas cylinder. The height of the condensation is equal to the remaining level of gas. I also thought some of your statements in your previous video were contentious, however you did make further statements to ensure you did not offend anyone, citing these were only your views, so Whilst your apologies in this video are great, I don't believe they are necessary as you had made (in my opinion), suitable appologetic statements. Keep up the good work. Wrt the van being so hot, the converse will also be true when the external temperature drops. Underfloor insulation next me thinks, and side skirts if the site allows. This covered area can have door access to storeage
You can pour warm water over you gas bottle and you will see a cold level of the gas inside , do it daily and you can see how much you use a day and what's left.
We are on a parkdean site and we have the automatic change over valve, sorry do not know what the cost is. Watching you chain them up Parkdean do not allow gas bottles to be chained up and will cut chains off if we refuse to remove them
Hello there hope your well just come across your channel and just subbed to you and just watched back from your first video of the caravan and it's really interesting and good information so thanks for that and it will be very useful to us as we are looking into a static in the near future ourself there is me my wife and 2 children and obviously as I'm only 35 it is very hard for us to get onto a residential due to age so this could all come in handy for us in the future as we have just had enough of being in a house it makes me sound harsh I know so I oppologise to anyone that takes offence I dont mean it to sound that way but like you say about neighbours I got the same problem sick of people butting there noses in my business and telling us what to do but i aam getting a van to convert as we are also fellow TH-camrs but travel a lot so our channel is all about travel and also to get away from the house and area lol but anyway Im Jamie me wife Tina and our 2 boys Andrew and Harvey you take care and look forward to more of the great info in to living in a caravan all the best. Stayed in a caravan over 20 years ago with central heating,did you not consider this when buying also a dehumidifier is a must and when cooking don’t boil spuds etc a deffo no no
I have the same gas bottles ya they are £90 the worst thing is being in the shower and the gas runs out the automatic system sounds good but how do you know when one runs out to get it replaced I would hate having to pay for replacing both at the one time £180
Use electric infra red panels. No condensation and cheap to run unlike gas bottles. Secondly why can’t you insulate the caravan at least underfloor and roof? Have people nothing better to do than see if you have edited the video? Everyone does it. And you did not say anything derogatory about motorised vans - only that it wasn’t for you. There seems to be a spirit of offence that circulates on social media and grows when egged on by others. What a world we live in! Carry on Ivan and ignore the naysayers!
@CaravanLifeUK in the depths of winter, I used at least a full gas cylinder (or cannister as you put it) a week. That's at least £85 per week or £12.14 a day or nearly 7 times what you have used in your calculations during spring/summer. Good thing, therefore, that you will not be there for the whole winter period.

A 47kg propane running full pelt will last about 19hrs continuous use so in the winter you could be using a bottle every week and a half .
