I greatly enjoy the old-school Warhammer 40k lore books. I feel that the older stories are even more disturbing in their grim, darkness which enhances the sense of dystopia. Thank you very much for this awesome reading. Your voice acting is, as usual, very enjoyable.
the older stories are less afraid to be creative and show the weirder and more nuanced side of chaos rather than just regurgitate whatever is on the tabletop and set up a straightforward codex-approved battle, new stories would never have chaos producing something beautiful like the rose cluster, or have chaos artefacts which dont technically have any ill effect despite being incredibly disturbing like the elixir, or the more nuanced possession like gundrum's sister. That is except for Dan Abnett, who seems to write new stories in the old school style, with the weird side of chaos but also the efficient side, and less retarded interpretation of the imperium, in Gaunt's Ghosts such as the floating sigils and the wirewolves and the blood pact armies, or the many batshit things in Eisenhorn and Ravenor such as the 4th dimensional chaos worshipping xenos.

It was strange how Chaos was presented so differently in the same story. There were points where it was straight out of a horror film (the Dream stone daemon and Angelica). Then there were parts where it was like a child was making up the plot while playing with figurines (Dark lord smellybutt winning a contest by having the champion that can poop the most).
Considering that Dante Alighieri's _Divine Comedy_ also has a rather hilarious and crass fart joke in Canto 21 of _Inferno_ (the demon Malacoda blows a raspberry as a signal to his fellow hellspawn, and one of them replies by farting like a trombone), the idea of the daemons on that planet having a defecating contest is not far-fetched at all. In fact, I think the portrayal of Chaos in this story is far better than in most more recent BL novels. It is terrifying, absurd, grotesque, and bizarre. Chaos isn't just BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD and Death to the False Emperor! That's how fallen Astartes may interpret it, but then again, the Astartes are beings which were bred solely for warfare and who perceive the universe in a very limited way.

The necron celestial orrery, and Tuchulcha. An argument could be made that it's a VAST improvement over both, as the spyglass is PORTABLE! I'm dumbfounded that these warphead addicts are so hopped up on the essence of soylens, that they overlook one of the single greatest devices in existence. But... I suppose it is only ½ of the device. Just imagine what Guilliman or the Lion could have gotten done with that single item! They could have located Abby before the complete shitstorm of cadia, or even intercepted the Blackstone Fortresses. Maybe they could have spotted the Tyranids before Baal, or even been able to identify the link between genestealers and the nids. Hell, maybe even find the central of the nid gestalt and launch a preemptive assault on the hive's control network! I gotta learn to write, because I'm totally going to go nuts with the potential eye of terror artifacts...
@@ABorderPrince its just such a great stand alone story. A 40k anthology series could be a great way to get around explaining as much of the universe as possible. Maybe adding some short stories from Eisenhorn or Night Lords trilogy to lead off on to their own independent shows.
Favorite 40k audio book so far. Sleep deprivation this week gave it a ‘King in Yellow’ feel. Drinking black coffee and listening to chapters ‘Life Essence’ and ‘The Worm in the Rose’ on 3 hours of sleep was… an experience.

Really love the passion . A master of your craft. A humble request from a massive fan, would you consider doing ‘ Red Rising’ by Pierce Brown ? It isn’t war hammer but has a similar flavour. Great read regardless. The Emperor protects.
On another note.. would be great to have ABP, Baldermort, the Remberancer, and Vox do voicing for some of the space marines in Henry Cavils upcoming Amazon series!! All true fans of this Universe would be so happy to see that!! I mean, the Astartes wear their helmets all the time, so, a voice actor (especially these guys) would be AMAZING!!
The reading of this book was excellent! Different characters sounded distinct and the emotion put into critical scenes was so good! There are audiobooks, and there are audiobooks that are read well - and that makes all the difference!
By my Roots! This is one of my favorite stories. These old ones are so much more imaginative than the newer ones, the authors weren't afraid to really let themselves go, sometimes that results in weirdness like that Ian Watson story, but sometimes you get total classics like this, which while different, I think hold up as well and are as fun as any of the Horus Heresy series.
@@The_ZeroLine Theres a few good ones but it was so much _filler_ and then they skipped over the parts that needed filling out. Horus Rising was a good introduction that showed you why people would have supported pre fall Horus, but then False Gods was such a personality change it gave you whiplash, they should have taken 3 books just to show Horus getting gradually disillusioned with how the Imperium was going, the increasing beaurocracy and the Emperors absence. Instead Horus was a great guy in Horus Rising and then one book later he was an arrogant, unlikeable, rash jerk. Even the Siege of Terra series, there was great moments, the Solar War, the Saturnine Gambit, Eternity Gate, etc, but too much of it was just filler in between that dragged and slowed it down. There were whole novels of filler in the Horus Heresy series that would have been better spent to tightening the story, you had good books like Know No Fear, and Betrayer, but then so many anthologies and then books that could have been good but missed the mark. I love the old stories where authors really used their imagination and ran with it.
@ Filler is a great way to quickly summarize the issue. I’m more a fan of the books that make 40K feel like a real world (Eisenhorn & Ravenor trilogies). I love the Cawl trilogy too. Even Dark Imperium, which comes in for a lot of hate, is better than most of the Hersey books IMO.
@@The_ZeroLine The Eisenhorn books are great, the world building was fantastic in them. Eisenhorns development into a more radical Inquisitor and his eventual conclusion was fantastic. Same with Ravenors series, Abnett in particular is really good at making the setting really come alive. The Plague War series was surprisingly good too. I heard a lot of criticism but I enjoyed it. The Black Legion series is great too, Talon of Horus gave a great look at the other side, Kayon is one of my favorite characters. I just wish they'd hurry up with the next one.
Ive been listening to lore videos for a couple of years now but this is the first complete book ive listen to, surprisingly good and the narration is great as always.

This would be a great option for the 40k TV series. Such a well-contained story, and so many interesting elements from all over the 40kverse.
Agree but I doubt it would happen it’s too off the wall. But yeah defo has more flavour than most current stuff
@@ABorderPrince its just such a great stand alone story. A 40k anthology series could be a great way to get around explaining as much of the universe as possible. Maybe adding some short stories from Eisenhorn or Night Lords trilogy to lead off on to their own independent shows.
Holy smokes lol. Im Excited for this to be ride commute to and from work for the next few weeks
Thanks
Favorite 40k audio book so far. Sleep deprivation this week gave it a ‘King in Yellow’ feel. Drinking black coffee and listening to chapters ‘Life Essence’ and ‘The Worm in the Rose’ on 3 hours of sleep was… an experience.
So happy to have this to stay awake and build a citadel of skulls in 7 days to die
Can you do the rogue trader trilogy? You're quality is amazing! You should be doing this professionally
This is amazing. Having just found warhammer 40k lore on my own.. this is the sauce! 😎🔥✌️
Thank you, from the comments it sounds like you produce incredible content. The story and narration is great so far. So much for my Friday, and happily so. Have a wonderful day friend.
Great book and well presented. Thanking you for the hard work inquisitor AB Prince
Thanks for this. Would love to see (hear) you do some Adeptus Sororitas novels! 😊❤🎉
2:30 hours in and loving it so far! Keep this up man, amazing job!
10:36:37 "inquisitor Molyneux, why do you hand out empty egg cartons wherever you go?"
ahahahahahaha
Amazing, i love listening to your work while im at my unit.
A fantastic listen during the hurricane raging outside. Gotta love mobile data.
Stay safe sir
This was absolutely awesome! Thank you very very much for this upload my friend.
This is so much better than the official audiobooks. Keep up the good work!
The reading of this book was excellent! Different characters sounded distinct and the emotion put into critical scenes was so good! There are audiobooks, and there are audiobooks that are read well - and that makes all the difference!
I just found this and man oh man i am Super stoked. Gonna listen to this the entire work day!!!you sir are the man!
These chaos cultists are like "Sweet home Alabama!"
By my Roots! This is one of my favorite stories. These old ones are so much more imaginative than the newer ones, the authors weren't afraid to really let themselves go, sometimes that results in weirdness like that Ian Watson story, but sometimes you get total classics like this, which while different, I think hold up as well and are as fun as any of the Horus Heresy series.
agreed they could really have fun with the setting
The Horus Heresy series is incredibly overrated (a few are really good, but the majority aren’t). So, I couldn’t agree more.
"Asmr". You missed "Ear licking" and "soft killing for the emperor".
What a fantastically enjoyable audio experience! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ive been listening to lore videos for a couple of years now but this is the first complete book ive listen to, surprisingly good and the narration is great as always.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for your passion and commitment. Simply brilliant
I listened to this a few years ago and it was my introduction to the warhammer 40k universe. I really enjoyed the story and the narration was top quality. Coming back 2 years later to give it another listed I'm now realizing you did this all your self.
For real, this is so well done. You have such a good voice for audiobooks. 10/10
Hearing a couple parts of some of these stories from the 24/7 ABP radio station!! Wow!! Just love these!! Finally finding the entire audiobook is such a great treat for a New Year’s Eve day of listening and choring!! Thank you!!
Thank you so much :)
I really liked that there were no special effects of any kind. Just you, telling the story. The female lines were just fine too; a bit hilarious of course but awesome just because of that.
I honestly was freaked out when the demon whispered ”Maynard...” after he had woken up. Scary stuff 😄👍
Had to comment, this was a great read of a classic novel. By the roots of my desire, you did an awesome job with expression and voice acting and it was a pleasure to listen to. The extras at the end are fantastic too.
RIP Barrington J Bayley!
Anything that is inspired by the absolute masterpiece that is Dune is automatically a franchise I can get behind and one of the things that got me into Warhammer chairs for putting this up for us to listen to for free they both God emperors bless you
Cheers agree
This is making my tile job so much more enjoyable! Thank you
The Prophet of Malice greatly appreciate you A.B.P your the best glad to see you put this collection together I just got done listening to your older releases for a month..
Listening to this for the second time, i really enjoy your readings!
Thanks for making this man. It's actually a great story and one that all 40k fans should hear.
Wow.
I've been listening to audiobooks at work and got bored, started searching for something new.....
I've heard of warhammer but never cared...you sir, just got me into the fandom ❤
This was excellent and i see there is absolute hoards of material and stories to pour through..omg. I'm going to be busy for a few years just catching up on the lore.
Love this.
Keep it rolling man.
Commented one year ago. Still think - after listening again - this is pure gold and Henry Cavill should read this and make it as an Amazon series.
Or border prince does a Audioplay of this.
FINALLY!! BY MY ROOOOTS I NEEDED THIS
cant wait to listen at work this week
also gotta snag that cup
Wow, that was a damn good book!
What a ride!
And hell, what a narrator!

Damn, the first ever 40k book I bought all those years ago. Sweet.

Ideal sort of thing to have on while building and painting minis. I love the voices that you give to the characters. Thank you for this, it has been a treat!

Hey bud,
