They are a killer band. They use several other interesting instruments as well, like theramin. If I remember correctly, this performance came about when TYS played a concert for the corp after Bluecoats had done an entire TYS the season before. Lead singer Salvatore has left the band for family health reasons. They haven't announced a replacement yet.
Singer’s voice really reminds me of Claudio Sanchez from Coheed and Cambria. I really dig this sound. Lots of fun to listen to. When I was marching in high school (many years ago) DCI didn’t have any trombones (my instrument), so I kind of wrote it off. I’m happy they finally added trombones to the mix, but just never got into it. I’ll go back under my rock now.
yeah Claudio originally signed them to his label. I saw them open for Coheed in 2015 and they were so sick. anything off of their first 3 albums is a vibe
Glad you liked them! This is the answer to how would you use a marching band in a prog rock band?, lol. Thank You Scientis is a really fun band, worth spending some time with. By the way FXLMDR stands for Fox Mulder (without the vowels), and the song has a slight X-Files vibe. Thanks NittPicc!!
From memory the Bluecoats used "psychopomp" from the bands previous album as part of their 2017 world championships performance, so I assume that has something to do with how this video happened.
So reminiscent of Chicago Transit Authority. This is a helluva performance. Crazy runs and incredible drumming during your highly praised section are worth the price of admission. Not a case where less is more. Rich wide sound like an orchestra but better. Remarkable recording. Thank you so much NittPicc for another introduction to greatness!
DCI 😁🤘I used to play trombone/euphonium in high school and college, I so wanted to be in the Madison Scouts or the Phantom Regiment. You had me at Bluecoats! Fleetwood Mac did a song with the USC Trojan Band, "Tusk". This was fantastic! that last half of the song and that squealing trumpet! 🤘Maybe check out some Streetlight Manifesto... great band and horn/wind section.
Princess NittPicc, do I have marching band you NEED to react to. The band is the Kyoto Tachibana SHS Marching Band. They are more than a marching band (you will be amazed by their choreography during their performances. There is a TH-cam video of the band performing "Sing, Sing, Sing" (there are several more videos, also). I hope you do react to this and you will find that Western style marching music even in Japanese high schools.
I got a vibe of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Maybe it was all of the brass. It was fun. Nice to listen to something different. If you are into DCI, I assume you are aware of Top Secret Drumcorp. They are fun to watch. They also did a collab with the Blue Devils(I think). The practice video is amazing.
This was just one of the most fun and impressive things I ever saw at the time, glad you were turned on to this!

The album: Terraformer, is a complete masterpiece. This is just the second song, then the song "Swarm", incredible too...
Swarm 100%.

Frank Zappa meets The Bluecoats and Chicago? The music of Thank You Scientist is informed by FZ, however, you may recognize other sources.
TYS is my favorite modern band and it's not close at all. Loved this reaction!

Bill is right as usual! This would be a great group to feature. So entertaining!
I saw these guys live in DC a while back. They play incredibly tightly live. It's a shame there's nothing more coming out of them these days.

And they open with World Without Pants, just to let viewers know what they're getting into.
I'm not judging you, I am just judging you! 😅
check out "Top Secret Drumcorps"
Not sure if you were aware that Bluecoats played Thank You Scientist in 2017 (Psychopomp) for their opener and reprised it for the closer.
