That old man was an alien, he gave the kid super human strength with that light in the sky and in the end went home because that was his whole task to help them two find love and his truck was on fire.
Love the casting here. The boy has such a naively curious boy face with such expressive eyes and the girl has a wonderfully charming sweetness that belies what she does. And with such a limited amount of dialogue this entire story is conveyed with facial expressions. Bravo 👏🏻

Kinda turned me off. Don't get me wrong, great technical skill - but every part of this production just answers the question; what would Wes write, and how would Wes shoot, and edit, and colour, and... well. yeah.
yeah fr its so uninspired imo like when he walks up and says "The most beautiful flowers grow on the edge of a ravine" for no reason like 'wowww so surreal stunted dialogue what a visionary', or when he falls off his bike and the man doesnt sound concerned and im meant to be like 'whaaaat but he fell off his biike this dialogue is so surreeaal thats not how someone would really act irl this is crazyy'. like this kind of directing just lets people get away with low effort characters and dialogue because we arent supposed to relate to them but to me its just like minimalist art, except this is someone imitating minimalist art so it isnt even making a statement or being creative
Glad I wasn't the only one who saw the parallels between this and Wes Anderson. 90-degree shots, and just the whole weird logic all makes it look like an Anderson work.
@Kate Yara On the contrary, I wasn't complaining. I like the parallels, and I think it was a good exercise of unconventional cinematography within the same class as a respected director. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This exact scenario has happened millions of times in hundreds of languages. One man possesses a woman, another man covets her. There is a fight. Man and woman leave. Granted usually it is her father, but not much different than the pimp in all reality.
lol glad someone else saw this haha. I thought this right away when the kid crashed and the story kept on like nothing happened. Major Wes Anderson vibes haha
I like to imagine Sam wasn’t even going to work at the food truck initially. He just crashed while heading somewhere else, was shown kindness by Gilles and just started working and living there within the span of a few minutes.
So an innocent man dies from the actions of someone else? The brothel bouncer does not have his priorities straight. How did he even get beat up by a skinny young man to begin with?
It's actually in a hamlet, but you don't see it, because they don't show a view of the road towards the south. The "brothel" is the northernmost house of the hamlet.
There are a lot of places in western Europe where it appears you're in the middle of nowhere, but you're not. Walk any direction and you will run into a hamlet or farm house within a mile or two.
Ah, Holland! Thank you for being how you are. A sweet tale of love and sacrifice, complete with regional brass band! And the Sputnik flight to the great beyond is fantastic. Cheers!

Omeleto is awesome. They definitely show what the movie "Be Kind Rewind" was trying prove. We don't need a full 2 hour movie; character development, plot, turning points, climax - fully represented in 20 minutes or less. Efin love Nick Offerman, that's my favorite one.

Sputnik was the first artificial Earth satellite.[7] The Soviet Union launched it into an elliptical low Earth orbit on 4 October 1957, orbiting for three weeks before its batteries died, then silently for two more months before falling back into the atmosphere. It was a 58 cm (23 in) diameter polished metal sphere, with four external radio antennas to broadcast radio pulses. Its radio signal was easily detectable even by radio amateurs,[8] and the 65° inclination and duration of its orbit made its flight path cover virtually the entire inhabited Earth. The satellite's unanticipated success precipitated the American Sputnik crisis and triggered the Space Race, a part of the Cold War. The launch was the beginning of a new era of political, military, technological, and scientific developments

The only thing unrealistic about this is how easy he got that job
I'm guessing that was a family friend that hired him.
Mike Hermansen it wasn't such a fancy job anyway ofc they'd hire immediately

Right.
So an innocent man dies from the actions of someone else? The brothel bouncer does not have his priorities straight. How did he even get beat up by a skinny young man to begin with?
The kid usually sleeps in that thing. That's why the bouncer set it on fire, to kill the kid. I assume he didn't know the guy slept there this night.
