This is a new cover of Jethro Tull by Turisas on their new album "Stand up and fight" ALL COPYRIGHT GOES TO TURISAS AND CENTURY MEDIA. If you like the band, buy their album: www.centurymedi...
While I usually hate covers I actually prefer this to the original and am a huge Tull fan. It might be the metalness of the cover that I like more but this song has been on repeat in my ears for a couple days now.
A Jethro Tull cover... well that's not something you hear every day, so props for them at least for attempting it. In fact I think this is the first time I've ever heard one...
two days ago i was searching some metal bands i didn't know. a friend recommended turisas. everything's fine... i started listening to jethro recently and then... oh good Bragi, I find this!!!
a damn good cover! But i echo everyone who believes that the vocals could do with sounding less stiff. Am very glad people are doing covers of Tull. A rather underrated band..
When I saw them both at the HMV forum, Alestorm played Back Through Time, and when Turisas came on the realised they had time for an extra song so they played Hunting Pirates! 'Twas awesome :P
Both versions are great and both do have their charms. In the original, I like the atmosphere a bit more, but in this one I especially prefer the solo-part. Just listen to them one by one, so you're good:)
Well i really was not expecting this from them, but it sounds good. Somehow, i can feel this band is in competition with Alestorm with the pirate vs viking thing in the 2011 albums.
The vocalline is simplified, Ian Anderson also sings it with more emotional depth and charisma; Martin Barre's guitar is also more subtle, and the original has more dynamics - a Tull trademark that is hard to match. This version is a nice hommage, but I can't agree that it's better than the original.
I'm kinda mixed here, the Tull original is awesome and I like the heavy adaptation of this one but the vocal has no feeling, probably because English is not his first language?
I consider this visual a threat to my life that has to be dealt with seriously and not with some brawl but every means of scientific warfare. I'm sick of this low level coercion.
i love the original by Jethro Tull and i clicked on this expecting to hate , actually this is pretty damned good
As a fan of Jethro Tull and just discovering folk metal... This is glory manifest. Beautiful, just beautiful.
This song got me into Jethro Tull after hearing it live.
Both bands are awesome.
2 dislikes need to see a blacksmith to get themselves a new broadsword.
I love the original, and I love this Turisas rocks!
TURISAS ARE AN EXCELENT BAND, I REALLY LOVE THEIR SOUND!!!!

WHAT!!!
This sounds like a 45rpm single being played at 33!!...
I usually hear metal behind a lot of Tull songs. \m/
Yep
Yes its an awesomw cover
@@Mithreniel That's true. A surprising number of Tull songs work as metal covers.
I've had this song stuck in my head all day. The original was one of my fave Tull songs 30 years ago, and this is damn fine now too.

Iron Maiden covered Crosseyed Mary
Their cover of Sabbath's "Supernaut" is pretty good too.
Needs more Ian Anderson playing the flute while stand on one leg.
Very epic modern remake for a classic song. Keep it up Turisas !
The second best version of that song i have ever heard , and like they say, the broadsword in your hand beats the one home on the stand.
Truly phenomenal guys! Keep up the great work, and excellent choice for a cover!

A COVER THAT I BET THE WHOLE J.TULL BAND MUST HAVE LIKED... the way I did.
a fucking awesome cover of a fucking awesome song
@ColonelSchafer That's a Viking Skeggox. The Varangian Guard preferred axes as their weapons, and were even known as "the men with axes."
The cover appears to show the Varangian Guard (Vikings who guarded the Byzantine - Late Roman - Emperors), since the building is Hagia Sophia...
Yep,it is the cover for their album 'stand up and fight'.
As a big fan of many styles of Metal, I'm often let down by some of the covers that have been put out by bands. This on the other hand is awesome af!
Great cover!
Thanks to Turisas I've found Jethro Tull! (And I bloody well love them!)
Great rendition of a great song.
The background vocals remind me of "Misty Mountains Cold" from "The Hobbit". Good cover.

Tull is my favourite band. This is a pretty good cover. Cheers!

this goes so well with Skyrim. I'm bashing Forsworn bandits heads in.
Great cover !!!!!
0:54 brode sode!
Hugely cool!!!!!
change the speed to 1.5 enjoy
I prefer 1.25, but both are great!
Change to .75
This is awesome!
Loving 1.25
@@The4x4truckerman 0.25 🤙
Ngl, if you like it normal speed, you're gonna love it sped up to 1.25/1.5

I really like it!
The only thing missing is the unsheathing sound of the broadsword at the end of the song..
Great version!
not sure which turisas cover i prefer out of this and rasputin. Both are amazing covers though
Well i really was not expecting this from them, but it sounds good. Somehow, i can feel this band is in competition with Alestorm with the pirate vs viking thing in the 2011 albums.
Is it only me, or his voice is sexy? :P
His voice is so sexy!
oh there it is
don't kill me but I prefere the Turisas' version
+warrior jr channel oooohhh, noooooooooooo!
dura lex sed lex... ok se you in valhalla

This cover can't be put even 500miles close to the original, original is simply 50x better.
my opinion.
hmm while i like turisas i prefer the original. its much more mellow. and makes reading the wheel of time series of books just that more epic.
jethro tull is my all time favorite band. and i prefer this cover over the orignial...
@mzmadmike correct.
specifically called the pelekyphoroi, phorous, i.e the axe hearing barbarians.
Me
it's not terrible.
but it certainly doesn't have the same feeling as Tull
I'm wondering, who on Earth could possibly give two thimbs down to that song? Some things will remain beyond my understanding.
@lumyn When I looked at your comment, I was expecting the worse of this.. then it started.
@BadlanderOutsider Same here :>
They should try to team up with jethro and make mash up mix
better than the original
nope
Just perfect . It just needs the flute
There's no flute even in the originl version
@@zarkokohucz731 i mean that broadsword needs the flute
@@oafratos It have this horns in the background (JT version)- there's no much space for the flute.
But I respect your taste
@@chrisperakis4072 λολ νομιζα πως το ειχα κανει κομεντ στο οριτζιναλ😂
@@chrisperakis4072 παντως προτιμω αυτο απο το οριτζιναλ
Why is the guy with the poleaxe in the front on the album cover?
... and a check of Wikipedia reveals Turisas being inspired by the Varangians, so I'm right :-P
What exactly does that have to do with Latin?
I like it but his voice sounds a bit like slow motion and flat maybe his stlyle? ....wake me up
I think he wants his broadsword...
hoi davy
YEEEEEEES :D

Nice cover. I'm not a huge fan of the singer's voice (at least here), but the instrumentals are awesome.
No the voice is awesomw
Awesome
I'm kinda mixed here, the Tull original is awesome and I like the heavy adaptation of this one but the vocal has no feeling, probably because English is not his first language?
The vocalist here is very capable of being much more emotional in his singing; I'm not sure why he sang this one so rigidly.
SirChipperton my guess would be to keep true to the original, but you never know
Might have just been one of those days in the studio when you have sang and practiced a song so much you get bored with it. Or really tired.
@@Mithreniel I have same impression
No one cares which version you prefer. This cover and every cover. Don't wan't to know if it's Coke over Pepsi or paper instead of plastic either.
How can you say this is near the original, the singer is flat, no one can match Ian's character or voice.
I consider this visual a threat to my life that has to be dealt with seriously and not with some brawl but every means of scientific warfare. I'm sick of this low level coercion.
Note for note exactly the same. It sounds wierd because the only differance is the voice.
This is good, but not as good as the original.
Not a bad song at all, but horrible fidelity to Jethro.
Not bad... But not Tull.
This is way too slow.....needs speeding up slightly!
As a devout Tull fan this is awful, the vocal is terrible.
As a devout Tull fan, this is a fantastic cover. I'm not a huge fan of other Turisas songs but this does the original justice.
That's the Turisas Style, cold as steel. I love it.
Indeed, this sounds like shit.
It's better for the immersion within the setting and the story
This is pretty bad.
Uhm, the previous poster needs to work on his latin AND his spelling. It's pelekyphoroi barbaroi, "axe-bearing foreigners"...
*sigh* That's Greek (Ionian), not Latin of any stripe.
