I have bought a bottle online along with some other Iroshizukus(Take-sumi and Fuyu-gaki) and they are on the way now. As soon as I saw this ink, Ama-iro, on youtube, I couldn't help but ordering one. The turquoise color looked so beautiful. But now that I see your review, I realized that there were many other beautiful blue inks out there. Thank you for letting me know. I will have to spend some money and time for a while to figure out where this rabbit hole goes. ♡
Brian, thank you for the review! This is my THE most favourite shade of blue for inks. As far as I can see from your video and other reviews/pictures it looks quite comparable to P.W. Akkerman #11 Trêves-Turquoise, Rohrer & Klingner Blu Mare and Diamine Havasu Turquoise. I quite like all these inks and Ama-iro is also a ‘must’ for me.
Blue Mare and Havasu Turquoise are a little darker/more saturated than Ama-Iro, but yeah, they're pretty close. If that's your favorite color, then I do think you'll like Ama-Iro.
That depends, the Eel inks can vary a lot in how they write because of other properties the inks may have in addition to the lubrication that gives them their Eel designation. If I think about some of the 'pure' Noodler's Eels (non-permanent, standard colors) like Purple Heart and Blue Eel, then I would say they feel pretty similar. The biggest difference though is the dry time, typically Noodler's Eel inks take a bit to dry.
Top 5? Hmm...that's tough. Definitely Kon-Peki, that's my #1 Pilot. Take-Sumi is really good, and Shin-Kai is great too. I do like Tsuki-Yo and Tama-Budo....I guess that's 5 right there! I tend to be really into blues, so that's probably I I lean towards those. Ama-Iro is nice, just not my *favorite* shade of blue, personally.
Yeah, I was thinking of including Sky High, but when comparing the two side-by-side, they're actually not as close in color as the other ones I showed. Sky High is closer to Liberty's Elysium, a bit of a darker blue with a bit of a reddish sheen to it. No green, but more red. In retrospect I should have compared the two, since the names are so close if nothing else! Sorry about that.
I've recorded it, I just need to edit and post it. I'll be up this week. As for the shading properties, it doesn't really have any! It's dark, very dark, and writes a solid black line.
now that you've tried the WHOLE PALLET in the iroshizuku range, which are your personal top 5? and which one do you find better; kon-peki or ama-iro??? :) *pls keep those reviews coming!!!
Pelican inks are very dry and Iroshizuku inks are very wet, so in that regard they are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Colorwise they're pretty similar, but pelican is a bit more blue.
+Belal Rizvi I know Brian definitely enjoys Kon Peki, so that's probably his preference. But you really can't go wrong with any Pilot Iroshizuku ink! - Colin

Thank you! Really helpful especially with the other ink colors!

How would you compare this ink to the Pelikan Turquoise?
Pelican inks are very dry and Iroshizuku inks are very wet, so in that regard they are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Colorwise they're pretty similar, but pelican is a bit more blue.
It looks pretty light on the paper. Is it hard to read?
waiting for your review of take-Sumi !!! Please talk about its shading properties during the review.
Do a review on their new black ink!
Oh my goodness, yes. That ink is one that will be particularly bad if left in direct sunlight.
How does the feel of the ink compare to Noodler's eel inks?
do you prefer this ink or the kon peki? I know you do a lot of your reviews with kon peki.
+Belal Rizvi I know Brian definitely enjoys Kon Peki, so that's probably his preference. But you really can't go wrong with any Pilot Iroshizuku ink! - Colin
