When he recorded this, he was 21 years old. This was his debut single in the US and it went straight to #1 for two weeks (March 12th & 19,th 1988) ... three months later, his follow up song, "Together Forever," also went to #1 for a week (June 18th).
In recent years, this became a famous meme/gif as why Rick Astley is the perfect boyfriend ... cause "he's never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you ... never gonna make you cry, never gonna say good bye, never gonna tell a lie and hurt you."

@@sesch137 Sure thing. People walk down the street every day talking about Astley's talent. He was always under-rated. In 1987 I was 16. He was 21. His name was _not_ the one on people's lips in high school, or in college afterwards, or in clubs after that, well into the '90s. Not in the hallways and not on the radio. And then he retired. So yes, he was very under-rated and is a huge talent. Your ascertation that his wealth means he wasn't under-rated is lauighable. You can name a dozen singers or groups with half as much talent as Astley who also became millionaires at that time. Who are you kidding.

Together Forever is another big Rick Astley hit from back in the day. Rick was part of a wave of pop music produced by a production trio called Stock, Aitken and Waterman. They were responsible for a formula of catchy, synth based hits from the mid-80s to the early 90s, including songs that launched artists such as Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Dead or Alive, Bananarama and Sonia.

This song was #1 in 25(I think) countries in 1987/88.
You should check out some of his live performances. He does some awesome covers too. Uptown Funk and Highway to Hell are probably my favourite covers he does. And his band is so freaking funky
