There seriously needs to be a box set of demos, outtakes, rarities etc of this legendary band all nicely mixed and mastered. Make it happen before it's too late Donald and co!!

I dunno how much mastering would help if the source material is low quality, as is sadly the case with the Gaucho Sessions, among others. Or maybe Fagen's been sitting on good quality masters this whole time >_>

I couldn't agree more Valerie; that being said, people wrongly refer to Steely Dan as a band; they stopped being such band after Jim Hodder died, it was then that Fagen & Becker morphed into possibly the most productive and interesting song writing team since Lennon & McCartney, Gamble & Huff or Bacharach & David. Just my humble opinion of course.

Everyone's gone to the movies is so great. Totally different from the final version. Raw and bold. Bass going wild. Wah wah pedal. Roto tom overdubs.

Fagen and Becker are the 20th Century's Mozart. Coupled with mystical/sardonic/ lyrics that bleed the angst and alienation within us make their music a spiritual experience for me. Becker's passing had me crying all day. I don't have any heroes but Fagen comes the closest. Words only diminish the intensity of what his voice has sung to me all these decades.

I think it's great to hear their early stuff, Donald sounds like he did on those early Demo's that are knocking about. This Chain Lightning sounds like provocative swing music, they've done other songs I consider to be swing particularly Donald on his own.
