I watch this one on a regular basis. I love the spirit of this band and the FABULOUS, idiosyncratic Nellie McKay tops it off. And what a great song. I think it is time to learn it.
Hi Dennis. Nellie is a truly good vocalist. I have yet to hear a jazz vocalist in Portland that do a tag like she did on this one and her scat singing is exemplary.
I had her very first CD, then somehow Nellie fell by the wayside in a tummultous time in my life. Then just recent, I thought "whatever happened to that gal?" Couldn't think of her name, even. So I went through a dusty CD shelf and -- Nellie McKay. "Get Away From Me" CD, dated 2004. Liner note said draws comparisons between Doris Day and Eminem. The songs were very raw, biographical. That had its own charm, but I see she's matured over the years.
This clip has become a favorite performance among many; glad it's still up after 11 years. BTW, Nellie fans should look for her brilliant performance subbing for Miz Elizabeth with the Hot Sardines last year at Bryant Park. Jen Hodge was also on bass that night.
Awesome vocalist. I wish the band could have played a minor third or so higher. She's right at the bottom of her range but handled it like the pro she is.

This is incredible. Detroit loves Nellie McKay ❤️

So cool.
Nice vocal by Nellie McKay with her individual variations to one of my favourite tunes..Chris Hopman , in Canberra.

They're good, but she's really cookin'! Could listen to her 24/7!
Oh Nellie! I've never heard you scat like that! Mr. Paganini would weep
Wow amazing
Yes, now that's music,
wonderful Dan Levinson on clarinet on the right

Hope she is ok as well as her mom. Please check her show out at Caffe Lena, and leave a good tip in the tip jar.

Yup, she's amazing! (And this is the key she asked us to play it in by the way)
@@DennisLichtman Really? OK. I guess I could learn a few things from her. Ya think? 😄
