This guy was awesome! not only for discovering the first sypernova, now named SN 1572 (7500 light years away) but also for thugging it-out with his third cousin over math formula! I love science drama.
"And since no castle would be complete without entertainment, Tycho employed a clairvoyant dwarf as court jester." WTF i died. i feel like we are really not getting the whole story with this castle lyfe Tycho was livin
Kepler took his notes after he died. It was Kepler that did the math and worked out the elliptical orbits of the planets. Such a shame that he is given so little credit for demolishing geocentric dogma. Galileo made heliocentrism popular afterward and Copernicus famously suggested it with a crazy mish-mash of complex divine circular orbits some years before, but Kepler proved it..hands down.
Tycho's contribution was mostly the accurate data he accumulated for 20 years in his nightly observations of the heavens. It was Kepler who made the best use of that data, and came up with the accurate laws of motion, after Tycho's death.
This is seriously too funny! Well done. I am studying Tycho Brahe for an adventure game I'm creating because his biography is simply priceless. You can't make this stuff up!! :D You forgot the part about his pet moose (yup, moose!) who drank too much beer, fell down the stairs and died.
Not trying to be "that guy" but as a person from Denmark and a man who studies its history, you guys got just two things wrong, his cousin was the one that cut off his nose, and he did not pass away from drinking, in fact he won many drinking battles in his castle. (And you pronounced the castle name wrong)
Rumor has it Brahe owned a pet moose, which died falling down some stairs after having had too much beer. Nice video, but you should've used a map of 16th century Europe at 0:52
His mother war Lady In Waiting at Kronborg castle where Wilhelm Kemp visited as part of an entertainment tour. Back in London he worked with Shakespeare who later wrote Hamlet with inspiration from Thycho Brahe's life and the castle of Kronborg where his mother served the queen. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern were family to Thycho Brahe and Shakespere used their names in the play.
thank you so much ted ed team. i like this video. i would like to watch some more scientists story with you , so please do some more videos on scientists.
Yes, it was Kepler. And that's how Kepler derived his laws of motion. They really were one of the greatest tag teams in all of science, even though their overlap was relatively short.
Tycho's 'heliocentric-geocentrism' seems noteworthy ... for those of us who do see the cosmos rotating about us. Thumbs down for not hinting on Tycho's invaluable model(s).
Not that was talked about in the video. He was responsible for the upkeep of the royal chapel in Roskilde, and he neglected to the point that the roof caved in. The king was plenty mad about it. He mistreated the servants on Uraniborg to such an extent that even feudal mores of the time were breached.
So a sword duel was the way scientific arguments were settled. Mann can’t believe the formulas then Perhaps do the same with those who object in exams 😈
Hola. Me encanta todo sobre Ticho Brahe, pero; No entiendo inglish, por lo que me agradaría muchísimo, que lo traduzcan al Español. Por favor serían tan amables, se los agradecería mucho. Muchas gracias, hasta pronto.
"acquire his data"? How about steal his data! Tycho's belonging were suppose to be sent to his family. Am I suppose to believe the man was too polite to get up and take a piss? Gimme a break. if the man was so popular(rock star status), I don't think he'd care if it someone was offended because he had to go relieve himself. I put my money on Kepler poisoning him so he could steal his papers.
Actually, there are a lot of theories behind his death. One is that he WAS poisoned, but not by Kepler. There had been rumors that Brahe had been having affairs with the queen. Awkward. Also, tradition stated that guests may not rise before the king, therefore, he could not get up to pee, lest he offended the king.
+Neoverse No, after his body was exhumed and autopsied in 2010, they ruled out all forms of poison, and discovered that indeed the seemingly-dubious story about his bladder was true based on medical evidence (though yeah, the "rock star status" claim is a bit of a hyperbole).
Rumour has it that Brahe kept a pet moose, which died falling down some stairs after getting drunk with beer. This incident is mentioned on the left page at 0:25
Find it odd that no one in comments is suggesting syphillus as the real reason behind his facial deformity and mercury consumption. Am I missing something obvious?
GorillaGuerilla I'm from Denmark myself, and I can assure you that his name should be pronounced like Tyko Braa. If you really wanna make sure head over to his english wikipage and listen for yourself.
And I'm from Denmark too - it's pronounced with a "-he" Sound in the end - and I don't think an English wikipage is a very reliable source in pronouncing a Danish name with roots in Götaland...
He was poisoned, probably by Kepler, if you take a deeper look at Heliocentric model, you will see his also just by changing the centre of mass of the solar system. Peace
Tinapeaches Bland ***** Ahh! It looks like the camera pans out and then stops abruptly. The video isn't actually stopping (as in freezing), there's just no motion to be viewed. Is that what you all are seeing?
Kepler poisoning Brahe is nonsense. Kepler never got any data that Brahe deemed important in fact Brahe feared that he might be surpassed by Kepler so he granted him access only to his data about Mars that caused him problems in his calculations. It turned out that Mars has the highest eccentricity of all planets other than Mercury something that contributed to his first law of planetary motion.
Thanks for the video but I think the section on his relationship with Kepler is inaccurate - he respected Kepler and shared his data w/ him while he was alive - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tycho_Brahe#Relationship_with_Kepler
