Amiga version looks very nice. I finished this twice on the C64 back in the day, and played through all the goldbox games that were released on the C64. Played most of the others ( Pools of Darkness, Treasures, Matrix Cubed) on PC. The only GB game I played on the Amiga was Dark Queen of Krynn, as one of my friends was ready to throw away his A500 setup, monitor, games and so on in the trash, so I belatedly had an A500 to play a number of games on. Dark Queen was one of the games I got from him.
I also played most of these on PC. Forgotten Realms and Krynn series that is. Treasures series I have actually never even tried, for some reason... Cant remember which ones I played on Amiga but on C64 I played Curse Of The Azure Bonds. A lot! Amiga versions are really pretty. I wish I had the patience to play these on my Amiga one day. It's so much faster and easier on PC tho. Gold box companion makes it even better. Thanks for watching, Greg! Appreciate it! 😊👍
@@FinnmanGaming Thanks for making a great video. If you do want to play the Amiga games, using Emulation and the WHDload versions (essentially a hard drive image of the game) cuts out all the floppy nonsense. I got one of those A500 mini's, which also allow the use of WHDload files, and have already tested Champions of Krynn for a short while, and it loaded in a second or so, and worked perfectly. I still have the real 500 here, but after recapping the thing, I have hardly used it due to many of my floppies being corrupted with age.
@@greggregson9687 Thank you for watching the video! I'm planning on making more of these at some point. Alreadyy did one about Curse Of The Azure bonds. I have been using WinUAE emulator on PC, but I do prefer the real machines. I have one Amiga500 waiting for me to putting it together and starting using it. Don't have the space at the moment tho. HD images makes it so much easier. One thing I don't miss about Amiga (and C64) is the floppy changing.... I would love to get one of those new Amiga machines. Makes things simpler.
I'm glad you liked the video and helped you! I think it looks so much better on Amiga, but on PC the gold box companion makes it so much more pleasant and fluent to play. Appreciate it! 😊👍
@@dgmt1 For the HDD part you are right, and also for the 3D 3D is the key, I said 1993 exactly for the 3D, it is the year of Doom. But also the audio was better on the amiga, I would say till the SoundBlaster pro came into market (1991). So we have a point in time between 1991 and 1993 when normal people could afford a pc at a decent price more powerful than an amiga for the same price and game producers started target that hardware (VGA instead of EGA, assuming a decent audio card, assuming an available HDD). It's difficult to say when did it happen precisely.
I didn't know NES had a version! I would love to try it someday tho. Odd that they didn't port any other games. Maybe it was too late for that machine.
Nice video. Ive never played this game on any systems. First fime seeing Amiga and C64 versions. Like the Music. Seems a tricky game to master. Hope you and your family are well.
Amiga version has amazing music and graphics too. Back in the day amiga was the way to go. PC version is pretty basic. The game is a bit tricky, but reading the manual helps alot if you are not familiar with games like this. I love these so much. I'm trying to find some time for recording the next game in the series. Been hard tho. Thank you Jamie for your support. I hope you are well too!
I'm Playing the Amiga version of Pool Of Radiance right now. I have the GOG versions as well. Night and day how much better the Amiga version is. Just the ability to use a mouse makes it so much easier. Getting it to work in Amiga Forever is fidgety, but I managed it and am about 3/4 of the way through it. Best version Amiga hands down.
Amiga version was absolutely the best! So much better graphics and everything. I considered playing it on Amiga, but I wanted to try playing these with the GoldBox Companion. It makes the game so much better on PC. Doesn't fix the graphics or sounds, but the overall experience is so much better. Thank you for watching 😊👍
@@FinnmanGaming Yep I like the GBC as well. I kitted out an entire party with +5 plate, cloaks of displacement and +5 burning long swords. But I'm gonna do it legit on Amiga then maybe cheese the Dos versions if I can't transfer my Characters to Curse of the Azure bonds on my Amiga game.
@@richardpage9474 I have been playing Pool of radiance and curse of the azure bonds the legit way too. I'm using GBC only for automap. Couple of times had to do some minor fixes because something broke in the game with some items or something. Can't remember anymore. It would be fun to try to boost a supercharged party and play thru the games :D I'm going to start playing Secret of the silver blades very soon also. Transferring the party between the games in DOS version is pretty tricky. I think It should be actually easier in Amiga? Not sure tho. Gotta test it at some point.
I have also the Amiga Version. Actually the whole 4 part series + Hillsfar. Then there was a saga, which played more far away on Forgotten Realms, which I found NPC reaction like sometimes better. Because there some NPC's did attack eachother verbally, which made it more fun to follow. I think that was the Savage Frontier Series from Forgotten Realms.
Sadly, Pool of Radiance is the only game in the series that got any special music or graphics upgrade on the Amiga. The other gold box games on the Amiga were just ports of the DOS versions.
Yeah. during that time PC wasn't considered a gaming machine. Soon after Pool of Radiance things started to change, even tho I think Amiga was still a superior machine. I was using amiga for a long time after all my friends started buying PCs and when I finally got my first PC (386 40Mhz) I was kinda disappointed. Thank you Cameron for watching 😊👍
@@FinnmanGaming The amiga only held the advantage in the late 80s when budget XTs were the main home PC systems. By 1990 286/386s with VGA, hard drives, 1+ MB of ram and sound blasters/adlib cards were common and PC the was pretty much considered the premiere gaming platform during its better graphics, performance, memory and load times. That's why if you check game store catalogues of that period, the largest section will usually be PC games. 1990-1991 releases like Wing commander 1&2, monkey island 1&2, ultima 6, eye of beholder 1&2 and mechwarrior 1 showed that the PC had pulled ahead of the amiga and the gap just got bigger every year after that.
The amiga is trash why in the world would it take that many minutes just to load a proper title screen? The Commodore 64 did it in a couple seconds, but the amiga thats is supposed to be the better computer not only sounds worse, it look's worse it, and it performs worse...smh
Thank you for watching! I guess the beauty is in the eye of the beholder... I like the look and sound of the amiga more, but the C64 version seems to work much much better. GG
On PC the Tandy version did have intro music so enable that if you play the dosbox game.
Didn't know that! Thanks for letting me know! 😊👍
For some reason Tandy music was removed in the updated DOS version.
That Commodore 64 opening theme song
Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, right? :D
its so epic
@@JimGallo very much so...
Yeah that alone makes it the superior version.
Once it sounds right on the SID, you can only do worse :-D

I grew up with the C64 one, but a couple years later found the NES version and switched to that. Had some great tunes and played great with a gamepad
I have heard about the NES version that it's good. Never tried it, because my path was C64 -> Amiga -> PC. I should try it one day.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing and welcome to the New Year!
Thank you very much Wyvern! Happy 2021 to you too ^^
So, the C64 version is simply amazing when you consider the HW limitations.
You got that right. It was pretty darn amazing back then.
I'm glad GoG fixed the speed issues on the PC version. Now if they could get the rights to add the C64 audio to really give me nostalgia.
Agree! I love it how they made it run so smoothly. Such a joy to play it. C64 audio would be cool! 😃👍

There was Pc Intro music in version 1.0 but they patched it out for some reason.

The apple 2 version?
For some reason games on Amiga look unpolished compared to C64 for that matter, the few exceptions are Amiga megahits :-D
Suggestion : timestamps, because I have a hard time (except by guessing) seeing where Amiga starts. PC is obvious I think (last one).
