    Eng Translation:
First of all, WuLei’s character is based on the image of a child of nature. Firstly, he needs to have a healthy and athletic appearance. That's our first impression of wulei, he appears to be a particularly healthy and sunny young boy. Then I met him, and I kept looking into his eyes. I found his eyes to be exceptionally clear. At that moment, I had a feeling in my heart that, yes, he's the one. Because they say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, especially for the character he's going to play. Besides being a child of nature, he also portrays a character with a spiritual or mythical presence. he plays the role of Mulan. We hope that he possesses a sense of happiness that can withstand the camera, both in appearance and in his inner self. When he interacts with nature, you can believe that he has this connection with nature, not just as a city boy. His complexity lies in the fact that he must also embody a modern urban existence. He is still a normal teenager who goes to school, takes exams, goes to college, and embraces contemporary civilization. At the same time, he possesses attributes that are different from ordinary teenagers, like a mysterious connection with nature.
During the actual filming, I followed the lead of these two actors and their own ways of growing and shooting. So, as we progress, these two characters are entirely their own creation. Wulei created the character of Mulan himself. The ultimate birth of these two characters is their own accomplishment.
In fact, in that scene with Jiang Qin, everyone always talks about that scene, where she becomes dark and turns into a devil. That scene had a strong impact on me in this movie, because I didn't know how to direct it. Then the two of them encouraged each other in that moment, and Wulei said to her , “Sister, please believe me, I also believe in you, let's believe in ourselves." After he said those words, time slowed down, or stopped. Why? At that moment, I was deeply moved, probably the most moved I've been since I started making movies, although it's not many, only two, and it's the first time I've truly collaborated with these actors. For the first time, I experienced what it means for them to forget themselves, and Wu Lei also forgot that he was Wu Lei. In that moment, they truly became Mulan and Tai Hua. They only remembered their characters, and they performed that heartbreaking, seamless performance with the flow of the scene.
After they finished performing, everyone was in tears, and the emotions lingered for a long time. Because I could see it very intuitively, we say that the actor's soul is delivered, and they truly gave themselves up, because sometimes actors may be acting, but sometimes they are also acting out their own parts. I felt that in that moment, they truly surrendered themselves to the art itself, and then I cried with WuLei in the car for an hour. After crying, we said that we must make this movie well, so we went to that mountain in Guizhou, which takes a two-hour hike to reach, we shot a scene and because he was lying in the water, he was already very cold, and after lying there for a long time, he might have caught a slight cold. Then the next day, when we were hiking in the mountains, his body was already not in a very good condition. So after filming that scene, he stayed there, and that scene left a deep impression on me. It was the scene where he carried his mother on his back. Actually, it's something that can't be acted out. It's impossible to act it out, because it's an instinctive response at the physical limit. It can't be accomplished through skill alone. Of course, at that moment, he was already feeling quite unwell, he was already sick. He asked me, "Director, should I still perform this scene?" He said that if he performed this scene, he might not be able to get out afterwards. I said it's up to his own feelings. But indeed, this is the last shot for today. And then he gritted his teeth and performed this scene, he performed this scene, carrying his mother on his back. I was deeply moved at that moment, I felt that he pushed his body to its limits for the sake of this scene. Later, when we were leaving the mountain, it was very difficult and painful, he said it was the darkest moment of his life. He ended up staying in the hospital for several days, lying in a hospital bed directly.
