It’s really crazy how much of a monster Carmine is. We obviously know he’s a mob boss, but to find out he’s a serial killer with specific obsessions is creepy and really takes everyone’s motivation to another level. Great writing.
Yeah, his sudden turn-around regarding Sophia, from next head of the family to scapegoat, actually made sense to me. Perhaps they could have gone into his psychology more, but this was her experience, from her perspective. Once he knew she could see the monster beneath his pater familias image, he's done with her, and she never sees his face again. Remember what he said to Catwoman? "You made me do this. You and your mother." That was his pattern.
Ironic isn’t it that Thomas Wayne started all of this by saving Carmine and starting the “Renewal” program for the orphanage. Had those not happened maybe Gotham would’ve been a different place. Unfortunately the domino effect happened and the rest is history.

Flashpoint Thomas Wayne Batman would've solved this problem 20 years ago.
I think we may get a Selina Kyle/Catwoman appearance soon. Sofia obviously needs help and they are both half-sisters that share the same trauma of their father murdering their mother. Selina could be what gets The Batman involved.
I like the part where Sofia pulled off her dad's glasses in the flashback and then he fixed it back up immediately. Tells you so much about the character.
Carmine could also be one of those that promises big things for the ones he wants to keep close, with no intention of actually doing that big thing for them, but constantly wielding it as a weapon against them. It's high-level narcissism.
@@enochlamont877 my favourite kind of manipulation! Especially true since at the time he wasn't planning on dying anytime soon so Sophia's "reign" wouldn't be for another 20+ years of her working hard for 0 promotions
You also gotta consider that Carmine had “Renewal” in his pocket, it essentially got him his power by leveraging everyone in the city. It could be the reason why he killed his wife because she found out about it, or she found out about his affair with Selina Kyle’s mom.
It's quite normal for a show to have 1 episode about the villain. giving a deeper understanding of them. But this episode was sooooooo good as the show had subverted eeeeverything about her story. A great antagonist has multiple sides, some you like, some you hate. And now you got the a woman you understand, and support. going up against the anti-hero which we like, understand and support. Which means, the audience win 100% whatever happens!
@goodguybrian9764 in the 1st episode, Oz looks at Vics Gotham ID and we see his birth day is 04/23/05. Penguin takes place in 2022 a week after the events in The Batman. Vics ID was issued in October of 2022. That makes Vic 17.
ALSO! Sofias time in Arkham is VERY reminiscent of an Alan Grant story from the 90’s called “Scream If You Love Me” where an innocent man gets sent to Arkham and slowly goes crazy. The story beats are nearly identical
I'm sure Sophia killed more than one person in Arkham, if her words to Gia are to be believed. That's without mentioning the kid from the first episode.
Hey guys, Isn't this the story line that leads to the rise of The Court of Owls? Vitti and a bunch of rich tycoons makes Penguin their public face. Then they frame Sofia and send her back to Arkham, until Batman gets wind of it? Then Metas and assassins get hired to take him out, but he eventually exposes them anyway? This is where Huntress, Deathstroke, Joker etc comes in? What story line am I thinking of, if I'm wrong?
Man in spite of liking Sofia as a character, I found this episode the worst so far... that being said I still liked it well enough to give it something like 7/10.
This was far from the best episode. I hate flashback episodes, because they take up so much time in a limited season. However this one was very good for being a flashback episode.
The dress she wears when she's arrested, and the final revenge dress..... Pure crazy classy
Revenge is a dish best served in yellow.

I could fix Sophia
😂
She doesn't need it😎🔥
Yeah and then she'll fix you - pet style lol
Theo Rossi is saying this literally in this show 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, that's true! He probably buttered up his son like that too. Narcissists love making you feel like you're their favorite person.

"She's not a monster. She's not gonna kill a kid."
Literally did this in episode one with zero hesitation.
In all fairness he was like 19 but still not very sane, makes sense when u realise she killed ppl in Arkham and was abused for 10 years
@@goodguybrian9764 idk, if victor and his girlfriend were still in school and he was her cousin, he could easily be underage.
Vic is born in 2005 and is 17 years old, so safe to assume the kid Sofia killed was 17
@@jonnyirish306 where is this info?

It's weird that "apparently" Agatha all along is beating this in all aspects 😅😅

1:29 I have to guess that John Toturo was busy filming Severence season 2 when this was filming
This halloween - watch out for all the ladies dressed in satini yellow dresses and black wigs!
And gas masks. I fully expect a few of them at NYCC this weekend. It'd be a rush costume to pull off, but it's simple enough.

Incredible
I love the angle of this reflecting the broken state of RW psychiatry. like... SHOULD you trust RW psyche doctors AT ALL?
Mark Strong is amazing in his own right, why does everybody keep bringing up John Turturro?
Sofia killed a kid in Episode 1...
I guess but an 18 year old is a bit different to a little girl
@@burgunbeerd Kind of. But the kid was innocent still... 😅

This was a rough episode, I had to watch in three sitting & fast forward of a lot of dialog, definitely not the best episode.
