Thank you James for putting this on. You'd probably get arrested for filming outside a school now! Just saw myself at 2:50 with Mark Meredith just behind - hi Mark, hope you're ok out there - still remember those games of table football after school with you. Seems like another life. Thanks again James for sharing. Anyone for a Witches Hat from the ice cream van outside the lower side?!
The garage just past Brampton Hut says £1.65 a gallon. Though I can remember when it was around 85p a gallon!!....And my mother saying "You watch, it'll be a £1 a gallon by year 2000" LOL
Saw enough of Hinchingbrooke School and the ring road to last me a lifetime, as a united Counties bus driver from 1974 to 1983. Still, it was nice to see the old place again as it used to be.
Excellent video - like a time-warp. The journey around the ring road brought back so many memories. Thanks for making it, for preserving it and for sharing it!
Tony Heath in the 6th. form blazer at the start, on his bike, sat next to him in A-Level politics for 2 years, good laugh. Can't remember the name of girl in Bauhaus top talking to him. I worked part time at the Hut at the same time as our dear cameraman here...thanks James!
Disappointing that you didn't spot your own little brother at 2:50 - typical. Scarily I can actually remember that day and being rushed back from the upper side to find out we were allowed to go straight home for summer.
...and the ray of sunshine that was Mr Hughes (Iirc) the headmaster with his ever popular camp commandant loud hailer - they don't make headmasters like that anymore
Hi James. I was in your brother David's form so this brought back many memories. Mr Hazel busy supervising I see. As others mentioned, good to see some of the old roads, and Brampton Hut still there! Can't believe how little traffic on the ring road at that time of day compared to now!
oh how I loved seeing the old ring road, i was 12 back then and remember all the old land spots...my daughter will be going up to Hinchingbrooke in a years time. Ohhh happy times.
That 6th Form girl with the orange hair and Bauhaus on her jacket (and her friend) must have been a local superstar. I was only in the 3rd form when this video ws shot, but i'm sure i remember seeing her, and obviously being terrified!!
Filmed 3 years after I left school and 3 years before I buggered off. I get back every now and then and the changes seem unreal. I don't belong there anymore.

that is truly stunning, im 45 and my daughter is 17 and currently at Hinchinbrooke, she was amazed at how its all changed
I used to live nearby, in the late 90's. What a great place! The ring road was an awesome idea. And fuel 36p / litre - love it!

Amazing footage, probably couldn't be done nowadays. Well done James. Loved the old cars.
I've been looking for images of the old Brampton Hut for some time. It was great to see the old place again!

Oh yeah and we were all allowed to take our ties off - wild times!

Really good video for posterity. so many kids cycling home, they don't go on the roads now and most just get lifts

Me too. Phil Finlays class, I think?
Which house were you in, Wendy? I was Cromwell
@@stickgalsick5064 I was in Vesey and my surname is Veazey haha
Phil Finlay is still around. I saw him in Godmanchester recently.
Just wish it was still the same
Know. GREAT VIDEO
Very interesting to watch - thanks. Especially seeing Ashton Gardens before it was Ashton Gardens!!
Its amazing to see the ring road with no lights on it! Only the pedestrian crossing by the bus station
WOW. AND TO THINK I'M GOING THERE THIS YEAR.
thanks for uploading
Just stumbled upon this , what a wonderful video it's so uplifting. What is the accompanying music ? It really makes it.
Just saw this...where's Andrew...I see the whole of M3 but not Andrew or myself...wow how things have changed.

Interesting to note around 6:18 that there were no traffic lights just before the Old Bridge Hotel.
The only set on the ring road at the time were by Hodsons Fish Shop....

Brampton Hut is unrecognisable!
I'm currently in year 11 at Hinchingbrooke school. So much has changed...
40 years ago last week!
Nice one James :-)

The year i started there
strange to watch the town and school i go to from 30 or 40 something years ago tbh
And is that Joe Atwood mugging? No idea where i plucked that name from...
I remember Danny Atwood. Didn't they live in that house just behind the lower school canteen.
that is amazing
I remember the lad with the punkette
Was stukeley meadows built yet?
Stukeley meadows was built from 1990 onwards...
No, it was just fields as it was the other side of the then single carriageway A14.
Hardly looks any different- it was a dump then and it's a dump now.
no it looks very different
@@Thegroupchatuk Yea it's a bigger dump now....
It became a dump in the 60s and never recovered.
