A tragic stampede at the Mahakumbh 2025 Mela in Prayagraj has left at least 15 people feared dead, with many more injured. The incident occurred early on Wednesday on the sacred banks of the Sangam Ghat during the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya, one of the most important bathing days of the Kumbh Mela. As of early morning on January 29, over 1.75 crore people had taken the holy dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. It's a perennially flowing river with one of the highest discharges. Everything is verifiable. So you might already be knowing all this. I certainly can't enlighten you more on this. However, one thing I can certainly deduce is that the comment has been made with a bad heart disregarding the sentiments of millions or even a billion. Firstly, it is ridiculous that Prayagraj is promoted as the only place for this auspicious event. Haridwar was the original destination for the holy dip, but politics and majoritism of a different kind led to where we are now! Also, people blaming VIP culture must note that the luxury tents, the stays and airfare travel are as high as 20K to 50K. If one spends that kind of money, there will be a clamor for quicker service as well. Condolence to the poor people who have lost their life or still trying to find their loved ones. Hoping the media and government is transparent on the number of deaths and supports the families. If you open the news channels today, they are all already celebrating the resumption of the Kumbh and acting as if nothing happened!
