    This blew my mind when I finally saw them live! They played it so well but the composer is the master mind behind it. Thanks for posting this. I was kicking myself in the butt for not getting a video of them playing

    I flew down to Atlanta to see them a few years ago (A. Never been to Atlanta B. Always wanted to see Kronos) - it was absolutely an audial experience. I can really appreciate the zero editting in this (other than perhaps balancing, there are a few mistakes in this from the studio recording) - yes, they are that good!
    There is something so blissful when the cello comes in at 1:15, and then again later with the viola in harmony.

    Wonderful! I am a sucker for string music of all genres, but Kronos is always doing odd & beautiful stuff. Bravisimo!
    (And Geeshie Wiley is less forgotten than you might think. She came to the awareness of most through the R Crumb biopic/documentary. There is also a recent New York Times Magazine article about her & musical partner Elvie Thomas. The original, crackly 78 version is haunted, haunting, and a great (obscured by unfamiliar language) piece of story telling)

    Eegads. I haven't seen anything like this since back in 1982, playing Dark Side of the Moon on the Hi Fi to The Wizard of Oz on a new-fangled VCR with the TV's sound off. Check out this with performance with "The Lone Ranger - S01 E05: Rustler's Hideout (1949)" muted. Seriously. Wait a minute. Actually, this performance syncs perfectly with ALL the Lone Ranger Episode. It's uncanny...

      It looks like all the strings are tuned down about a 5th. He's playing an "A" on the top string instead of the "E" a 5th above that it usually is.

    • @housegeary3705
      @housegeary3705 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's also the way he bows. He bows hard, and a lot of his tone is in the bowing hand rather than vibrato or whatever on his other hand. Scraping the strings like he does produces all sorts of wonderful harmonics.
      The new cellist is great, but I really miss Jeanrenaud. She was fucking wild.
