Agree 100% Took me years (lots of failure and success) to come to these conclusions. HOWEVER, what I do with my favorite peppers (flowering was nice or unique varieties) is that I Bonsai them over the winter. I found that using NEW INDOOR soil and fertilizer (not right away due to stress and transplant shock) helps bring them back with new growth (quite slow due to lack of sun in Northern Europe). During the winter I can shape them as I want, and when summer comes, they grow like crazy but I continue to Bonsai and keep within the same pot and indoors, no longer outdoor. This gives the pepper a second life and a different purpose.
So true. I've stopped doing it.
