  • Datsun 1200cc powered dual blade portable sawmill makes short work of this douglas fir tree I cut down on my property in Nelson NZ.
    Thinking of building your own sawmill? I made a video showing this mill in close up detail here - • Video

    I bet it drives the angry ram nuts that there is a fence that keeps him from attacking the sawmill! Beautiful sawmill by the way! Smart and interesting design!

    • @AngryRambro
      @AngryRambro  11 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, I used to let him in the yard to mow my lawns but he kept using the teeth on the blade to scratch his head & I was worried he'd bend it, so he stays out now

      Buddhanz1 LOL. Now that's funny.
      And I would love to see how that sawmill was built, as that's a project I plan on taking on before too long.

    Well if this isn't the 'slickest' lumber cutting I've ever seen,...Well done for sure,....
    like they said below,...can;t beat those Datsun engines,..also can't beat the 'technology' used in building this sawmill.
    Good video,...I enjoyed this. Thanks

    Simply ingenious and perfectly effective! Two disc saws make abt 6x less sawdust comparing to a chainsaw mill. Not to mention ugly chain problems= oiling+sharpening them. Bandsaw mill cuts pefect wide boards, but for common construction purposes 2by4"s are those of massive demand. Congrats on great idea!

    That is a fone piece of machinery, it's so humbling to that people still have the skill and knowledge, in the uk there's not many inventive craftman anymore, it's all about speed and money, good job.

    My favorite part of this video is when he steps on the log throughout the process of milling it! I got a crack out of it, but a great set up you have here. There is great potential in this machine.

  • @nickloves7279
    @nickloves7279 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow this makes so much sense. Bandsaw mill is great for wide boards, i never use wide boards. I also like that it does not need to be adjusted each time, simply scoot over and cut another 2x4. Pretty cool!

    Great video, great sawmill, great lumber! I'm so impressed with the mill! Even with my adoration of everything mentioned, I couldn't take my eyes off of the ram when he was in frame. I really expected him to do something stupid (being a ram) but he was as interested in your work as I was. Thanks for posting and the link!

    I rather like this setup--you're cutting lumber to its' nominal size in one pass!

  • @glumpy10
    @glumpy10 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mate! How good is that 'eh? A machine which is home made that would do anything a commercial model would and probably more. And I like the useful size timber you cut. So many people just seem to cut board but I wonder what they hell they do with them all? Surely they don't still build weatherboard houses do they?
    The stuff you cut is much more practical to my mind.
    The way you can do a finished piece in one pass is fantastic. So efficient. I like the way you even cut the thin spacer sticks for stacking the wood at the end.
    Sweet as Bro, that's a top job for sure Cuz! I wish I had your skills and abilities.

  • @Grizzydan
    @Grizzydan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice setup, and nice flatbed. I put a 7 spring stack on the rear axle and now fill the inside of the lumber rack full of logs. While I don't believe this is the best way to mill lumber--it's very efficient. Props to you.

    • @AngryRambro
      @AngryRambro  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Big Dan Cheers big Dan, yeah chainsaw milling is hard work and not the most efficient method but sometimes it's the easiest way when the log is big and the track is narrow

    Great mill......Love that there is no handling of the log...Most mills your constantly flipping the log... Wondering how the horizontal blade is attached? Welded? It would need to be flush to slide across the face of the log....Excellent design.

    • @AngryRambro
      @AngryRambro  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The horizontal blade is secured using 4 recessed bolts with internal hex drive, this keeps it flush

    that's a nice setup you've got there. can you tell me how thick the sapwood is on a douglas fir that's about 450 in diamater? I'm thinking about cutting a bunch of them down near my place and pretty much just peeling off the non durable sapwood with my neighbour's mill so I can use it outdoors - just not sure if it's going to be worthwhile. by the looks of the one in your video the sapwood is only about 5cm thick?

    What width planks does it cut? This looks like the most productive setup I've seen! Once cutting starts you have a finished rough 2 x 4 or what ever the size it is. Just needs planing if you don't want rough lumber. How long is the finished plank maximum?
