OMG me too. It always stops me dead in my tracks. I want to learn it, but dont have the technique yet for all of it. Try Anna Gourari's recording on ecm also. Best wishes!
Mine too! I got a bunch of classical records for very cheap from my university once, and there was an album of Emil Gilels premiering Prokofiev's 8th Sonata as well as playing a few of the Visions Fugitives. That's where i first heard it. It's so warm and thoughtful. I put the needle back on it repeatedly
Whoah, it is certainly inspiring pieces of music ! The Prokoviev's work on tonality is noticeable. Welcome in the TH-cam game of great uploaders, I'm sure your love for Prokoviev will have a worthy audience.
The final piece brings the cycle to a very ethereal and satisfying close. The whole set should be listened to as a whole. The pieces are like little entities that fly off in many directions, but they still gravitate towards the home key of a minor.
When I first started listening, I thought, "Oh, yay... an hour of Russian Satie..." But there's much more, and, clearly, great artists have found rich sources of inspiration in these "little" pieces. Thanks for posting! Great score-study video!
Incredible, I thought exactly the same image! I also find a lot of similarity with B.Martinů, and, strange to say, even with Nino Rota! (see "7 pezzi per bambini")
Actually, they are not that difficult to play. They are among Prokofiev’s easiest pieces that he wrote for piano. Most of them are playable at first sight.
I notice you threw in an extra performance of the no. 10 at the end. It’s quite a different interpretation and I enjoy it much more than the first. The liberties taken with the tempo really enhance the mood of the piece. Although the precision of articulation by Berman on the first 20 is very admirable.
The good news is that on a technical level these pieces are rather on the easier side. Even the most complex sounding one is still at “intermediate level”. I find them far easier to play than Prokofiev’s famous “Children’s Album” which was intended for young piano students.
Bermans account of these miniatures is on a par with Richter. He brings such imagination and subtlety to one of Prokofiev's most delightful keyboard creations.
Had Berman fall semester 1981 at IU Bloomington. The only thing I ever played that he liked was Bartok's Six Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm. He told me I should never, ever play Mozart. Ever. And I haven't. ;^)
@@QalinaCom, he was wonderful. Not at all egotistical. I had him for a year at IU as well and learned so much. He was particular about expression and that it be very specific to the piece and composer.
Great! Thanks for adding the sheet music. Have you listened to Frederic Chiu's recording of these? The disc says that the total time is 27 minutes. But most recordings that I see on TH-cam hover around 22 minutes. That's quite a difference.
Not sure why so many comments are comparing and contrasting this with Satie. Profokiev is and always has been a far greater composer and his work - including the Visions Fugitives - is completely different from anything Satie did.
I can't say what, but there is something in Prokofiev's music that distinguishes it from similar works by Satie, Debussy and Ravel. Something very sad.
The koroliov excerpt you’ve attached is a childish rendition of the interpretation of musical markings. The recording preceding it shows maturity in conveying Prokofiev’s musical, textual desires through a calm demeanor, exactly that of which is seen on a day to day basis, hence the set title.
There is Prokofiev’s own recording and interpretation of no.10 on TH-cam. It’s quite interesting to compare it to both Koroliov’s and Berman’s interpretations. Quite different from both of them!
It is strongly subjective but I do not like the added track (repetition of n.10). I don't see Berman's version like the weak point as you mention. I think Koroliov makes the piece more like "scherzo" which I don't like that much. But I repeat, it's just my subjective opinion. Also, it disturbs me little bit to hear n.10 after this "dead end" of n.20 (I would add like 10 seconds gap at least....). Anyway... - it is now 20 years since I entered the piano class at Prague conservatory. And few of those pieces were the very first which my teacher gave me to study. So... now, I am learning all the book and in September, I am gonna record it. My ex-teacher will be pleased for sure. :)
Maybe it’s at measure 29 where Prokofiev just screws not only the main theme but literally everything that’s happened in the piece up to that point and completely changes the mood... I find that incredibly funny
Эти двадцать мимолётностей Прокофьева вообще можно хорошо сыграть?Я даже одну сыграть не могу.Мне проще помыть полы где-нибудь,чем сыграть эти 20 мимолётностей.
Grossly overrated Satie who seems to have been one of the first composers who engaged in Impressionism and minimalism, and is to this day considered unique and original by many and continues to influence. Who’s pieces are known, revered and still played to this day by many. His legacy speaks for itself. It is unclear why you are trying to tarnish Satie’s image, but it’s not fair, godammit!
no.8 sounds like it was played too hastily, and ruins that melancholic tone it should be having, then again it still sounded better than having it played too slow without feeling
Нет, это нормальный темп, медленнее не играют, будет очень занудно... Это музыка Прокофьева, а не Брамса 😊 Она написана без лишней философской нагрузки 😜

Sort of like late Liszt. Simple, but incredibly sophisticated
The second reminds me of bits from Bill Evan's 'Peace Piece'
New discovery for me. It listens like Grieg's Lyric Pieces but then in Prokofievs memorizing way. So playful and virtuous at the same time.
La melancolía del ruso por su experiencia, es naturalmente hipnotizante.
Love it

프로코피에프가 이런 음악을? 초기 작품인가요 아니면 원숙해진 말년의 작품인가요?
Prokofiev was born in 1891. The most of those pieces are written in 1915-1916, so is it early or mature style? I guess smth. in the middle😂
