  • Follow the fascinating life story of trumpeter Leroy Jones. From the projects of New Orleans, Jones goes on to lead the brass band revival, and eventually catches the ear of Harry Connick Jr., and becomes known worldwide.

Ha ha haa!!!, I'm from South Africa but now living in the UK, I just became fascinated with Leroy Jones trumpet playing, it's so reminiscent of all the great trumpet players I have ever had a chance to listen to. I didn't know about him until i saw this documentary. No wonder we've got a number of great musicians from New Orleans who are not as known as Louis Armstrong etc. One of my friends told me that if I want to excel in jazz saxophone I must go and hang around New Orleans. It's a pity i don't know or have a friend there, my wife's sister's daughter was there, she no musician, she only came there for work experience. When she returned I asked her about New Orleans, I got jeorlous when she said "there's music everywhere, everyday." Thanks.

We’re surprised that at 2:54 in, he gave Herb Alpert as an influence growing up. In our experience, usually trumpeters talk about Miles Davis, Lee Morgan or even Chet Baker. That was a nice surprise, we love Herb!🙏🏻🎧🎺

So nice to hear these stories told by those who actually lived them!
Thank you Danny Barker for passing the Brass band/Jazz tradition down to Leroy Jones and other young musicians that became jazz masters.

im the proud father of Quinn Echo Donnelly, born 2/20/10 and was practicing his horn this evening when a friend Joe Dias texted that he was watching THE GREATEST TRUMPET PLAYER IN THE WORLD - I know just a little jazz, Lee Morgan’s work is the only jazz musician i kinda feel connected to .. so,I looked Leroy up and had to watch this perfect documentary - Amazing job - I loved how the doc ends with the family - yeah, perfect documentary - and now i must be in the same room as Leroy while hes playing.. my new dream. fantastic job on this production - ive played in the Trinity College Jazz Band and i know we would love to bring Leroy to Hartford, Connecticut to grace our state - Leroy, if you ever come near CT, please reach out - We’d love to hear you!

I love his sound so much. Almost sounds like he is block tonguing every note. Putting his tonguing into the airstream MUST be the way he gets that unique sound.
