The police in Sturgis are very serious about full stops. My in-laws live on Douglas street and we sit on the porch and watch them pull folks over all the time when turning from Nellie st to Douglas. When turning left on to Nellie from Douglas, no stop required, but when turning right onto Douglas, there is a stop sign. If you do get pulled over, treat the officer with the utmost respect and you might get a warning. What they are looking for are drunk riders, in which SD has very strict drinking and driving laws, so don’t do it. Be safe out there!

    • @jpcycles

They are the same as any other time of year in South Dakota. All the states gun laws remain the same.
Carrying a firearm on a motorcycle - SDCL 32-20-6.6 states that "No person, other than a law enforcement officer or conservation officer, or any person on the person's own land or land leased by the person, may operate or ride on any motorcycle or off-road vehicle with any firearm in the person's possession unless the firearm is completely unloaded and within a carrying case which encloses the entire firearm. However, this section does not apply to any person who is carrying a pistol and possesses a permit to carry a concealed pistol issued pursuant to chapter 23-7. This section does not apply to any person who holds a permit issued pursuant to § 41-8-37 while engaged in hunting from an off-road vehicle in accordance with the provisions of the permit."

ACTUALLY...you might want to look at South Dakota Codified Laws, Section 32-15-17...specifically the last sentence of it. "No person may use a muffler cut-out on any motor vehicle upon a highway"...this has been, and can be interpreted to mean 'modified exhaust', as all 'mufflers' have baffles, and thus to have a straight-pipe without a baffle would violate this part of the Section (being as the first sentence of the same section says that ALL vehicles must have an exhaust system WITH muffler, in GOOD working order).
While Sturgis (city) may not have a more concise law (as many cities do...based on decibels at a given distance...like 85-dB at 50-ft, etc.), they can enforce state laws locally, or state can enforce state laws (local cops OR state police).
