This left me with a smile on my face. There were a few times there I legitimately thought for a second it was just fancy video editing, then the ride moved a bit and I realized it was just incredibly well designed. The newspaper part in particular caught me.
I'm pretty sure this ride was actually based on a real runaway train situation the only reason I figure this is because I distinctly remember a story about a train crashing through a station in just the same way as the finale of the ride
@@cartoonkeeperWasn't that the Federal Express incident, where a Pennsylvania G1 locomotive ran out of control straight through Union Station, where Dwight D. Eisenhower was gonna be elected as the 34th President of the United States? Btw, i think he also got inspiration from the movie Silver Streak, which actually was inspired from the incident mentioned above. Sorry if I sounded nerdy, just stating truth. 😅😅😅😅
5:16 onward is perhaps the greatest theming I've seen for a ride in Planet Coaster, the forced perspective, the bridges, the fast paced train action, the newspaper ending, PERFECT
That's insane. By far the best darkride I think I've ever seen in PlanCo. You're a master of forced perspective and the story was so well done. You continue to impress me with each project you do!
I’m excited to see how people will get creative with dark rides in planet coaster 2 now that you’re able to attach scenery objects to coasters. It opened up the possibility of creating very dynamic show scenes. For example you could attach your steam locomotive model to a separate coaster model and actually have them move past the ride vehicle in the scenes.
This is the greatest Planet Coaster dark ride I've ever seen. It looks like something I'd actually see in a real theme park. Unlike other Planco dark rides, it doesn't just give the _impression_ of a story, it _tells_ a story, and does it in extremely creative ways, especially the movement. I am sad that you aren't more popular on TH-cam, but to you, and everyone who assisted this, you've made a masterpiece, and should be rightly proud.
Absolutely mindblowing. Professional. Gracious. It's something Walt himself would like if he was alive today and familiar with trackless systems. The newspaper part is simply magical. Lol. It should really exist somewhere in the real world. It's just amazing. Bravo!
The only thing Walt would hate about it is the name of the ride and the setting. He actually made a movie on the REAL Great Locomotive Chase, which was taken place in 1862 with, I guess to make it simpler for you, wild-west styled trains involved. And yes, Walt was a severe train enthusiast
I have no idea why but “Build time: 1 year Ride Time: 5 minutes” made me laugh harder than it should have. That year of work paid off though, because this is one of the best planco rides I’ve seen
The awesome level of detail in every aspect----concept, story, set, props, period accuracy, ride realism, lighting, music, audio design, VFX, voice acting (some of the best in any Planco build); BUT EVEN BEYOND ALL THAT---- You wrote actual news articles, and they're hilarious.
That ending with the Headline and framing of the scene deserves a standing ovation of themed entertainment design. I wish an attraction could pull that off. I love that there is a post show concept with the museum exit.
Easily the best part of this is that it felt like it could be a real dark ride. I could see every detail of this and how it would work; both stationary prop locomotives, some with false moving track sections to simulate motion, and moving props hauled by hydraulic cable pulls, animatronic figures, that dramatic climax done with large scale models, even final fade-out through the newspaper article done with a mist screen and a pepper's ghost style effect. Moreso than most PlanCo dark rides I've seen, this could easily be made to work for real! And I would ride the hell out of it! Mickey's Runaway Railway, eat your heart out! Rise of the Resistance, stand aside. I'll admit it wasn't entirely what I was expecting; seeing the title I thought this was going to be a retelling of the famous "Andrews Raid" of 1862. But this absolutely lives up to the name. Bravo, sir!
Thank you! Glad you liked the realistic scope of the ride. I didn't put any affects that I felt weren't feasible in reality. My thinking behind the newspaper black and white transition was actually projection mapping. Build the scene in black and white, and projection map the colors in like the WDW firework shows do. Then just fade out the projects and boom it's black and white.
THIS IS ACTUALLY SO GOOD??? This is one of my favorite pieces I played when I was in high school band, and this is such a cool way of portraying the actual historical event!! 1000/10, fantastic job!! If Planet Coaster ever does some decent water rides, I'd love to see a similar concept for The Great Steamboat Race, also by Robert W. Smith (the sister-piece to GLC!)
That was awesome. Very good story telling. I loved how you jumped perspectives like a film would, even "being the train" in the station at the end. Well done
As a fan of that game and someone who has built detailed rides, I cannot even imagine how its possible what you did. You are a fantastic talent and should be proud. Best dark ride I've ever seen!!!
This is a work of art - an original concept / story well told by scenery and music. Especially like the sound design / dialogue bits for the show scenes. The main point is: This looks like it could be done in real theme park with the classic imagineering tricks like forced perspectivce, projections, painted backdrops, etc. Most theme park dark rides created in Planet Coaster & Co. simply seem "too big" for being built in a real-world theme park where place is expensive - which makes them kind of "unrealistic". Not this one! Congrats!
As a PlanCo builder and a musician who has played that exact piece and have met Robert W.Smith this is amazing really well designed, as lol around fantastic!!
The Music is perfect. My only VERY MINOR complaint is that the music wasn't time to well. But that is like not important at all. This ride is like you made a chocolate cake, then added chocolate syrup, chips, ice cream, and other stuff that was so extra but made it super cool and epic.
This is insane. I love this. This was like watching a movie, I felt goosebumps. Also loved the addition of Johnny Cash's ''Wabash Cannonball'' at the end.
Congratulations, you have surpassed yourself. The story-telling, the story-flow and the sheer amount of detail are just insane. Keep up your work and stay true to your talent!
How the hell did you make this!? I struggle just trying to make a haunted house, and yet your able to tell a story and have some much detail! Bravo! Some scenes got me confused thinking... How did he do that!
I’m so impressed by the creation in planet coaster and love the source material. I am a former band nerd and had a ton of Robert W Smith on my iPod mini back in the day. This reminds me of why I loved being in band so much. My section would make up backstories for some of the songs in our concert repertoire and this is such a fun execution. Really great work!
This is the best dark ride on Planet Coaster I’ve ever seen in terms of theatricality, story telling and how captivating it is. My jaw is on the floor.
oh my god that newspaper effect at the end was insane. i can't believe you have so few subscribers for rides like THIS! i think... i think you may have gotten me back into planet coaster
Das ist absolut krank! Respekt!
this is amazing! so many great scenes especially the newspaper scene! id love to see a behind the scenes to see what some of these sets look like and how some of the stuff was done. this was definitely worth the wait!
Eyyyyy!!!! After all this time. Congrats my friend. What a success this was. To you finish of a game series, it truly is the best. Way to go out a legend.
You know, Nathan: I'm hoping to do that one day with my Victoria Village City Museum section of the GossBrook Hay Farm Resort project that I've been hoping to build on my grandparents' farm through the Goss Family Christian Entertainment (GossTron Guy Studios' theme park and hotel division). Maybe that could be a good real-life ride possibility if God allows it.
I have this weird thing about being uncomfortable about being in a dimly lit, small space with a large object. For example, the plane in the Casablanca sequence on “The Great Movie Ride” At Disney World actually bothered me. Xenomoprh in the other room, not a problem. Airplane, scared me… You actually succeeded in triggering that feeling within me watching this on my phone. Kudos to you. Seriously, Imagineering and Universal Creative should be fighting for your services.
This is completely insane.

The amount of time effort and production that went into making this is unbelievable. This would make a great dark ride in real life!
Even though the song is based on a real event from the Civil War, this would be a legitimately good dark ride. Very imaginative!
