I am so glad their is guys like you Omar, to help people to fix stuff. Man it helps alot, THANK YOU.
Just got done replacing mine. 53 yr old female, money is tight. Thank you so much, took me about 3 hrs, with some breaks, 93 degrees out and I have spinal chord damage. Couldn't have done it without you..you rock
Glad I could save you some money. That’s the driving force behind my videoed I am technically handicapped. I ruptured two discs in my back about 20 years ago and had back surgery so I could walk again. No feeling in my right leg and I can’t lift more than 20 pounds. I’ve learned to modified ways of doing things like lifting up the tire with my feet in order to mount it back on the car. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. 👍
@@OmarsGarage sounds like me, had a tumor removed inside my spinal chord, went in not walking came out walking. But I was determined and thanks to your video I did it
My new 2014 jeep patriot didn’t give me ANY issues until last week when it went on limp mode with 120k miles. Love jeeps! Everything points towards throttle body. I’m going to change that and see if it works. Thanks Omar!! Many years later and your still helping ppl!
Thanks for leaving the comment. I love to see that my videos help so many out. Motivates me to make more videos.
So was that your fix Kay?
So. I'm a female in her 30's. And thanks to your video. I replaced mine after the shop quoting me under $1,300. All thanks to your video.
That’s great, glad I could help. My daughters help me out on my cars all the time. It’s never to early to start learning how to work on your own cars. 👍
I have this issue and I am following- it seems like I can’t get to the bottom part of the air tube. Arg
Wow! Great video. My daughters 2007 patriot is doing exactly that! We’ve had it in two shops and they said to take it to a dealership. You just saved us a bunch of$$$$$! Her car has been a money pit from day one! Never buying a Jeep again! Thanks for the great video.
Glad I could help you out!
Same here. I have a 2016 patriot and it keeps having issues. It only has 45,000 miles on it.
Omar, Thank you, thank you thank you. You're video was spot on, all the symptoms on my wife's 2014 Jeep. I watched it numerous times, I practiced each step in my mind. Today, I did as you directed and successfully replaced the Throttle Body unit. Her vehicle has much better pickup. The hardest part was the bottom hose clamp. Did it myself and saved $ 325.00, Thank you again!
That’s awesome…this video alone has helped so many folks out for years now. Glad I could save so many people so much money. Thanks for leaving a comment. Made my day.
Omar you champion... thanks all the way from Australia just did this to my Jeep Patriot 2014 after the same issues and it only cost me $80.. Jeep dealership wanted $750 for the throttle body parts only!!! You saved me and my young family a lot of heartache thanks so much again
Luke Smith so happy to hear it I was able to help. Your thanks are very appreciated 👍
Luke Smith I’m currently having issues with the same model car with ETC lights on and all. What was the part that you replaced exactly and what Was your original issue? Was it that ETC and the car not accelerating properly?
Here’s a video with the symptoms I was having. Pretty much the car goes into limp mode and doesn’t accelerate past around 25 mph. th-cam.com/video/bfgw-UeSP34/w-d-xo.html
Owen McGovern hey mate yeah it was this exact issue the car wouldn’t accelerate but was on we turned it on and off sometimes I would help but eventually it was just reving and not moving. If you pm me I’ll send you the eBay link I used. It’s an easy fix just follow Omar’s video. Our car has been running perfectly ever since
I saw your other video where you had the dealership diagnose it. I wasn't getting any codes for mine and the lightning bolt light on the dash would only appear intermittently. I tried resetting the computer first, and that seemed to help but not completely solve the issue. I used this video to pull the throttle body and clean it. Fingers crossed it solves the problem. Went to NAPA and they told me the part was $230+. If cleaning it doesn't solve the problem, I'll order it online and save more than half the money. Thanks again!
Let us know if the cleaning works. I think the part I used was about $60 and it’s been a couple years now since I changed it. No issues since then. Good luck.
I thought I had posted to this video but I can't seem to find my post. If this is a repeat, I apologize but I'm going to post a comment again for the sole reason of saving a headache for others who may be experiencing what I went through. I had the exact same issue on my 2013 Patriot. The vehicle left me in tough spot but I was able to limp it home. Bought the part on Amazon for $59 and less than an hour later, my Jeep was running top notch. Wasn't even that hard of a replacement. Thank you Omar! You saved me hundreds of dollars!
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you were able to get it resolved. Still blows my mind how often these things fail.
Link to part you ordered from Amazon?
Samantha Smith the link to the one I used is in the description. Maybe Ben can chime in on if he used the same one.
Thank you so much Omar. My 2013 Patriot had the exact same symptons. I ordered a new throttle body on Amazon. It arrived, and it took me less than an hour to put the new one in. Only because I watched this video. Except that I didn't even remove the battery. I was able to just remove the hose to the throttle body, and I had enough room to get to it. With the right extensions and everything. Thank you so much for the video.
Clay Gillman that’s great. It’s a tight fit but it’s good to know you can do it without removing the battery. For the video I definitely needed to remove it. Glad it helped.
Thank you, thank you!!! Saved me a lot of money. I have very limited mechanical knowledge but I still got it done in an hour and a half. Some of it was an absolute pain, but I got it done.
That’s great to hear. Just takes some time and patience.
I just finished this. I removed the top(left) of the airbox and the battery and didn't regret it. BE CAREFUL WITH THE AIR TEMP SENSOR! It is delicate and brittle plastic after 10 years. Ask me how I know... Moving the upper radiator hose did help and it only drips a little, you can top it off with cheap distilled water without altering the ratio in any significant way. The gaskets are not included because Chrysler says they are reusable...I bought a new one anyway too 😉 It took 5 trips around my 1sq mile block to run well so Don't Panic of it doesn't start acting right immediatly, the computer needs a minute to get the new voltage range.
I have a 2011 jeep patriot and it has only 90,000 miles on it. I replaced the battery but nope... Then I found this here!! Will have hubby put this in and pray that it works :) thank you so much. thank goodness I have another vehicle. This is scary as my patriot just shut off and I was able to get it on a side road here..
Check your air filter first
Thank you so much buddy! I was on the freeway last week and boom my Jeep went down! I was on the freeway with the emergency lights on, seeing your video! Thank you so so much man. You saved me a lot of money and I bought the part for $84.
So glad my video gave you some piece of mind. Not a good feeling when it happens.
Thanks again Omar!
Hey were you leaking oil when your jeep went boom?
Omar Thankyou very much for making this video I was having the same issues with my Jeep and it turned out to be the EXACTLY what was going on with your mother in laws. Didn’t want to be charged 500 bucks so got the part for $80, watched your video as I was replacing the part and a couple hours later my Jeep is running GREAT. Thanks again man
Awesome....glad I could help. Please remember to like and subscribe 😀👏👍
Hey Omar how’s it going man so since I replaced my throttle body my car has been running great the only thing that is different now is that my automatic car starter hasn’t worked since I replaced it and the check engine light is on could you give me your opinion on what u think may be wrong with if
Kenan Jones it would be difficult to say. The first thing I would recommend is to scan the computer for codes and reset the codes if there are any. You can sometimes do this by disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes. If you don’t have an OBDII scanner, some auto part stores will scan your vehicle for free. If you have that code then you can look up what else may be wrong with it. It may just need to be reset though.
Ok Thankyou man I will try tonight after I get back from work
@@kenanjones6795 Did this help you smh mine is doing the same after changing the throttle body
I have a 2011 jeep patriot and my etc light and traction control lights came on and put me in limp mode (just like everyone else story's) . I changed the throttle body today and Bam!!! She runs better than ever before. So happy saved us a bunch of money. Thanks for the video brother
No prob...glad I could help!
Did you need to go through any type of relearn process with the new throttle body or get it programmed or did you just install it and everything was good
I just installed it. The car ran fine afterwards though the check engine light stayed on for about a day. Went off after driving around 20 miles.
The perfect fix for the limp jeep. Ordered the part, put it in and drove the car. It did not need programming and the check engine light went after a few drives.
Thanks for sharing! 🙏
GREAT VIDEO!!! I was able to order my part with the link, and to change it on my wifes car with this video!!! The Jeep was charging $165 Just to look at the issue... the part was $60 it came with the gasket, and it was very easy to change... one hour tops without experience just this video.
Juan Gonzalez that’s what motivates me to keep making these videos. Thanks for leaving a comment 👍
@@OmarsGarage Hey question what was your car doing with a bad throttlebody. Did you have the lightning bolt engine light on and it was idling weird and you had no acceleration because that’s what I’m dealing with I was hoping that it was the map sensor but it’s not it’s more than likely the electronic throttle control
@@brianardino3369 watch this video. It will show you exactly what it was doing and what lights were coming on. th-cam.com/video/bfgw-UeSP34/w-d-xo.html
@Omar's Garage,
Thanks a lot...your video is like the light at the end of tunnel :D
Recently I started getting this Lightning Bolt/traction control light on randomly on my 2010 Patriot. I got all my tools/parts together and plannign to clean (not replace) the throttle body this weekedn! Hope things wok out fone for me.
Just wanted to add (it may help others having same issue) - I noticed if I start the car and seat idle for some time (to warm up engine or for some reason) the lights show up. But If I drive off right away after starting the engine i dont see the lights. It is still my personal theory though...so far i applied this 3 times and i didnt see the issue coming up. I am planning to cleanup my throttle body anyway. Cz I read people commented at many diff online posts that it should be part of your maintenance job every 25/30K miles and also keeps your car efficient on gas.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Every little bit helps.
My man! Mine gave out at 56K miles. Ordered the part from Amazon for $60 and was able to replace the throttle body in about an hour and a half with help from your video. Great tutorial. 🤘
That’s what I like to hear. Cheers 🍻.
I have experienced the exact same isssue with my 2012 Jeep Patriot. Glad to see you fixed it with a new throttle body. I hope the same works for me
Elwood Madison for $100 it’s worth a shot compared to $900. Good luck and if you need anymore tips just comment and I’ll answer.
Omar's Garage I received the new parts today, using your link in the description, swapped them out and went for a 45 minute drive. So far the problem has not resurfaced! Thanks for the video and Thank you for being willing to help!
Same thing with my 2012 patriot as well!
I change mine and still did the same problem
I have change the crank shaft sensor and the cam shaft sensor and nothing I need help
Can any one help me with the link to buy the throttle body
Thanks for this video. Did my repair for 50$ instead of the 415$ for the part plus labor the dealership wanted to charge me
Matt Faszczcuk there should have been a recall for that throttle body. It seems to be a pretty common issue from all the research I’ve done. Glad it solved your issue!
Thanks for this video! I was quoted $684 to repair this exact issue. Less than 1 hour start to finish, and I’m test driving. The only thing I did differently, was that I removed the coolant line . Minimal coolant came out. $96 total invested in throttle body and rubber gasket. Very simple, basic tools. Thanks!
Jim Weller 👏 😎. Glad I could help. Removing the coolant line would definitely give you an easier access to the tb.
I just ordered the part so hopefully it fixes the problem. Thanks for the detailed video!!
My daughter just got stuck today with her husband...for the exact issue on a 2016 56k miles jeep patriot ....ugh....this will def help!
Thank you so very much for this fantastic video! Just saved us a ton of time and money. Again, I greatly appreciate this.
Wouldn't it be easier to work on if you just remove the engine?
Thank you for the great video. Did exactly as you did... Ordered the same part from Amazon... My Daughter's Patriot is back in business.
Peter Kertzie great to hear it worked out for you. I actually just finished replacing a lower control arm on the patriot. My mother in law curbed the wheel and bent the lower control arm. New video coming soon 😂
So you didn't have to do the re-learn procedure?
@@mattmgarza I did not have to do it.
Peter F Kertzie did you reset the TPS? My compass wont start after cleaning and installing the clean throttle body i clean the body without disconnecting the TPS but battery on car is disconnected will that be the cause of no start?
It so hard too get the clamp screw off joining the theottlebody
Well done, and decent camera usage to show as much as possible. Thank you again
Thanks for the feedback 👍
Thank you so much for posting this video, I had the same problem, and I tried this replace with a part from an old vehicle (same model) and it WORKED. thank you
Glad it helped.
I’m going to attempt to put mines in this morning. I been watching this video all week
Let me know how it goes. If you need any advice just comment and I’ll try to get back to you. It’s pretty straight forward though.
Omar's Garage I’m having a hard time getting hose off at the bottom
Tony Blash you may have to try get at it from underneath the car. It’s pretty tight in there. If you have a smaller ratchet wrench it would be helpful too.
That was the hardest part for me too
I've already replaced my throttle body and intake manifold and now the jeep.just won't start
I had the same symptoms, 2011 jeep not going over 10 mph, engine light on the dashboard, the code is P2112
The throttle body butterfly would not open and when I removed the throttle body rattled, maybe something inside broken! Replaced throttle body and all issues are gone.
Awesome 👏
Saved me hundreds great tutorial! Also helped me diagnose it too Thankyou so much! I have a working car again!
Thanks so much for the feedback...also great to see I helped another person out 👍
Hey Omar did you have to get your computer reprogrammed I had a new throttle body installed in my 2008 jeep patriot and the lighting bold and traction light is still on ... Do u think if I get the computer reprogrammed it would fix the issue ?
Edward Newkir I just drove it around until it reprogrammed itself. After installing it only the check engine light was on. It may be different for a 2008 though.
Have you tried disconnecting the battery for like an hour?
Ok I drove it in limp mode still had no change so fingers crossed hopefully jeep delarship if they reprogram it it will run properly .... Thank u tutorial was excellent
No not an hour I did disconnect the negative battery for about 15 minutes still no change
I will try that method the car will not go over 30mph
Thanks for the detailed video. This video and the first one you made helped me figure out what is wrong with my jeep patriot, now i know the part i need and how to replace it.
👍 The link to the one I used is in the description. Hope you get it resolved quickly.
I’m having the same issue with a 2014 Jeep Compass. Was on the highway and all of a sudden those 3 lights came on and the car had no power or acceleration. Got it scanned and the code says U0401 and it’s says Implausible Data Received from ECM/PCM. So I’m trying to figure out if it’s the actual computer, any connections, or maybe this throttle body. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Process of elimination. For $60 and a half an hour of work I would swap out the throttle body and see if that’s it. From the amount of people that have had this issue, it’s worth it to try that first.
@@OmarsGarage Yeah thanks man… The part is already ordered and arriving from Amazon on Saturday. I pray it’s the fix cause idk what else to do. If you have any other suggestions I’m all ears. Appreciate it. 🙏🏽
Omar, did you have to recalibrate the throttle body with a scanner? My Jeep just broke down yesterday and I’m fixing it myself. Trip to the junkyard on my agenda today
I did not recalibrate mine, I just disconnected the battery for several hours and drove it until the check engine light went off on its own. I have had others say you can touch the battery terminals to reset the battery and I have also had people use those instructions to recalibrate.
1). Turn ignition to Run, but do not start engine.
2). Wait for all lights to turn off.
3). Over the course of 15 seconds, slowly depress the throttle all the way to the floor.
4). Over the next 15 seconds, slowly let the throttle out in the same manner.
5.) Start car and drive around for a bit.
Let me know how it goes.
Omar's Garage thank you Omar I really appreciate it. I’ll let you know if that was the problem. I’m pretty sure it is. It has identical symptoms as your grandparents’ car. Thank you again
Hey Omar, mission accomplished, I got the part from the junkyard and did what you told me and it’s running better than ever, thanks a lot brother I appreciate you
Mauricio De La Cruz awesome. Did you have to recalibrate or did you just drive it?
Omar's Garage I did both actually, I followed the manual relearn process that you share with me, it idled beautiful immediately after I started the car, it definitely runs way better than it did before. Thank you again
Does it matter if you don’t use a “factory” part ? Have you had any problems since the replacement?
P.S I have a 2015 Patriot with the exact same problem at 105,358 miles to it.
I didn’t use an OEM part. The one I used is in the description. It solved the issue and it’s been several years now and the part is still working like new.
@Omar’s Garage,
I cleaned and put back the throttle body following your video. It was really helpful!
However, the light still came back. May be i need to replace the throttle body next.
In addition now i got the oil pressure warning light on the dashboard. Any idea what went wrong?
Are you getting all 3 lights come on plus the oil pressure light? I’d recommend scanning the computer to see what codes it is throwing.
@@OmarsGarage I got total 3 lights now- Lightning bolt, traction control, and oil pressure warning lights.
@@OmarsGarage it is actually not the oil pressure warning light...it is the check engine light that came on after I cleaned and put back the throttle body. As per your advice I went to autozone and had it scanned. Based on the code the check engine issue was related to Purge valve. It turned out during the process I accidentally somehow broke the Purge Solenoid Hose that connects the Purge Valve to the engine. I have to order it at the dealer for $13.
Do you think bcz of this broken hose I still have the Throttle body light still on (eventhoguh I cleaned it already), and may be it will go away after i replace the hose? Or I should replace the throttle body next?
@@nain426 put the part in amd see if it works. You can also try this relearn procedure for the throttle body , but try it after you replace the broken part.
If not then I would try replacing the throttle body. Link to the one I used is in the description. I had been working great for over two years now I believe.
@@OmarsGarage Thanks for the response!
I did follow the re-learn steps already-didnt help. So I guess I will replce the throttle body. But will replace the purge valve hose first and see.
I know this video is from 5 years ago, but is reprogramming or relearning the throttle body not need to happen? Trying to get my 2016 patriot ETC (lightning bolt) and traction indicator to go off. It still drives and isn’t quite in limp mode yet
Changed out ecu and throttle body 2 days ago. Only 91k miles. Beat that gremlin. Now l have to quiet a vibration
Just to clarify, would this video work on a 2015 Jeep patriot?
Yes.
What is the best transmission oil to use for jeep patriot to avoid over rev
Vehicle would idle rough intermittently, and those lights would come on. Looked at the ECU when it was happening and each time the fuel system would fail over to open loop mode.
OBDII Faults:
3 Throttle faults: Pedal position sensor fault, Forced limited RMP fault, and Throttle actuator current fault.
2 O2 Sensor fault: Some low current/voltage faults
So yeah, limp mode. Interesting part of this is how the fuel mode was tripping. The thing that makes the most sense to me is that the emissions output of the reduced RMP mode was low enough at idle to set off the sensors on the output. This is when someone will really notice the issue with the throttle/throttle body. The open loop fuel mode is the wrong mix for a car at temp..
I reseated the throttle and O2 intake sensors, and now it is running smooth. Faults have gone.
Hope this helps someone!
Hunger Squad You didn't have to replace the throttle body?
No. It was the sensor on the throttle body. Cleaned and reseated it.
@Nathan Crumley Yes, I just sprayed contact spray on it seemed to resolve the issue
The throttle valve fails because it is filled with oil. I recommend installing an Air Oil Separator in the crankcase ventilation hose.
It costs $5-$7.
Thanks Omar for the video. We now have a lot of Jeep Patriots in Ukraine. And your experience is very useful to us!
A lot of American equipment is fighting for the independence of our country. It is very reliable, but it also has to be repaired sometimes.
We won't give up!
What was it doing before you replaced the throttle body? My Patriot will start it just doesn’t want to get a lot of power when I put my foot to the floor when I press on the gas peddle!
Same here. It’s in what they call limp mode. Watch this video Chrysler Jeep Patriot Throttle Body Install. Limp Mode and Rough Idle th-cam.com/video/bfgw-UeSP34/w-d-xo.html
@@OmarsGarage yes that’s exactly what my Patriot is doing! Only problem I have is my Patriot is a 2006 and has the 2.4L and all of the Throttle body’s I found on Amazon is for a 2007 up to a 2017! I wonder if my 2006 is different from 07 and up? Any help would help me out a ton! Thanks again Omar
Do you somehow gap the crank sensors on the 2.4 patriot because someone told me something about a tab on sensors that need to come off or stay on????
I've replaced mine step by step from your video and am still experiencing all the symptoms. All 3 lights are on. Lightning bolt. Check engine. And traction. After turning off the car and turning it back on again it runs smooth until all the lights turn on again. Idk what to do.
Try this
Jeep Patriot throttle body relearn
Hello! Mister Omar
congratulations on the tutorial! I am from Brazil and I have a jeep liberty 07 that presents this same problem.
what solution would that be? Thanks
You can try cleaning the throttle body first and making sure all the electrical connections are not loose. If that doesn’t solve it then I would suggest trying to swap out the throttle body.
@@OmarsGarage
Thank you!
You do a great job.
I'll do what you recommended
Did you have to do a RELEARN on your Jeep for it to work right? Or was replacing the throttle body enough?
Dean Andrews when I replaced the throttle body and turned the car on, the only light left on was the check engine. Driving the car around for a while should “relearn” the computer. The check engine light went off with about 20 miles of driving. Other than that I didn’t reset or relearn anything.
Thanks for the video, my jeep compass now runs smooth than before
Awesome 👏
Hey this exact thing happened to my patriot as well and I used the code reader to make sure it was the electronic throttle but the code popped up as “U1407” which has to do with the catalytic convertor... You have any idea what might be going on??
u1407, u1424, and u1425 are the three codes that have been mentioned when people experience a throttle body failure. Check all the harness connections to and around the tb and if that doesn’t work then remove the tb and see if it can be cleaned. If you are experiencing the same warning lights and issues then it could well be the throttle body.
Mines went out and the wires smell like they were smoking my whole truck stop on the high way and that throttle lighting sign piped up first then the check engine second … so that cause your whole truck to shut off and won’t crank??? It like it won’t to start up but something stoping it?
That sounds like it’s something totally different. This never smoked and it would turn on but was in limp mode.
Nice job. This helped me in my effort to replace one on my 2011 Patriot.
Kevin Brown I’m still amazed on how many people have the same issue with this car. Glad I could be of help. Thanks for commenting.
Question, I have a 2015 Jeep Patriot. I was on TH-cam researching why its so hard to get up my speed when getting on the freeway. Is this a part that helps that?
Joey Hakanson did it used to get up to speed a lot faster before? These Jeeps have pretty small engines and aren’t that fast to begin with. A dirty throttle body or defective throttle body could also decrease acceleration, but it could be one of several things.
@@OmarsGarage thank u so much for your reply. I've owned this vehicle for probably 6 months and its always been like this.
Before I had the Jeep I had a Convertible Bug which I was completely in love with. Someone took a baseball bat to it and insurance totalled it.

is it still working?
Thanks your video help me fix the same problem on my jeep patriot 2011
That’s great to hear!
Did you have to relearn the new throttle body?
I didn’t do the relearn process on mine. I just drove it and eventually the check engine light went off once the computer relearned it by itself. Some other folks have commented that this is the procedure to relearn of that doesn’t work:
Thanks Omar. I'm in MD too. I will change my throttle body too. Thanks for the video.
P. S. Why do my door locks and horn keep beeping after the Patriot is turned off?
Could it be that you have an interior light left on?
I had same problem it was my key fob get a new one ...
@Malik Bolds Iv the same prob. The would strt honking all of a sudden, middle of the night...even while driving. How did u fix urs?
He says his key fob was going bad. He fixed it by getting a new key fob.
I see that but in my case it starts honking while even im driving the car. I dont think a faulty fob would do that...so was wondering if there is any other fix to that.
i fried out my starter on my 2010 compass after taking out the throttle body and cleaning it because i desperately trying to start it i dont know if i properly relearned throttle.now i have to order new starter and i will just buy a new throttle body.dont do what i just have done.
Will the throttle body you order work with a 2012 Jeep Patriot?
Tonia Stewart it should fit 2007-2016 Jeep Patriot. Check the fitment guide on the amazon description.
Mine seems to only limp when warm any idea?
My lightening bolt is on and the tracking control light is on
👍
Thanks for the heads up.You did a great service to man kind.👍
Thank for the video, having the same issue, but it comes and goes, no engine lights and no codes in the OBDII, but, the throttle light comes on and the car star to run rough for a few seconds and then the light goes off and the car runs ok. Is this the same issue or something more. Second it makes this really bad vibration when this happens, is this normal with the throttle issue? Please let me know being that i want to buy the part but if its something else then I wouldn't waste the time and the money.
Marcos Cintron i was definitely getting a bad vibration when this was happening. It was also intermittent on this car, but in the end it never went back to normal and I had to order the part. If your car is older it may be worth it to get a new one anyways as these parts can wear out. It’s not that expensive and with this video you can do it yourself.
This video is pretty old, but I need your help! I have a 2010 Jeep Compass, got my throttle body replaced about 6 months ago, but all the symptoms and warning lights have come back. I’ve replaced my coil pack, then my spark plugs. Which helped for a few days then all the rough idling, the hard shaking when I slow down and take my foot off the gas and warning lights have come back. And it is a hard shake, feels like my engine could fall right out. Do you think I need to replace it again?? Please help 🙏🏼
What brand did you replace it with? If you used the OEM parts it could be failing again. Don’t remember the brand I used but the link is in the description. Been several years now amd now issues with mine.
My throttle body from Amazon will be here tomorrow. My 2012 Patriot is having all the same symptoms but the 4wd light also comes on. Hoping this will fix it.
Keep us updated.
Replaced it today with help from a friend and it worked! Drove approximately 25 miles and it is running great! The only light still on is the engine light. I wonder maybe if I'll have to get it reset somewhere. I am super happy that I got this fixed for 70 bucks though. Thank you so much for the video man!
Kipopolis Chavez so glad to hear you got it resolved. My engine light stayed on for about two days. If it doesn’t you could disconnect the battery and touch the two cables together to discharge any electricity then leave it disconnected for 30 minutes. That will usually reset the computer. If not you can use an OBdII scanner to reset it.
I will try that! I am just so happy this worked, I was skeptical lol. But it made all the difference. I see that you replaced your mother in laws about 2 years ago. Has it happened again since then?
Kipopolis Chavez hasn’t reoccurred not once since I replaced it. I wouldn’t bother with the battery, just drive it for a couple days. If it design go away then look at the computer reset.
Thanks for the videos. My 2011 Patriot on occasion wont start. The dash lights come on, as does the lightning bolt. Ill turn the key back to off, and then attempt to start again, and usually it will. Sometimes it takes a couple of attempts. Is this still the throttle body? Is it an expensive repair?
Thanks!
Christopher Wilbarger might be worth trying. Took me about half an hour and less than $100 to do it myself.
Very detailed. I like it. 2 thumbs up bro
Can the throttle body cause my jeep patriot to not accelerate over 35 mph? Also what have replaced the throttle body twice already but it is still doing the same thing, could it be it needs some sort of relearning procedure to get it to work properly?
Did you replace it with the tb I have listed in the description of the video? I think the relearn procedure is also in the description or at least in the comments.
What where the codes for it the check engine light ?
very informative video keep up the good work
Hey Omar one day my jeep started to run rough with the head lights flickering while car was on , I took to a shop and code said misfire ignition coil #2 so replaced it and it ran normal again for 2months then it started doing it again long story short this whole summer I took it to the shop 5 times to replace ignition coil #2 and spark plug and mechanic pretty much said he dosent know why it's doing this , so now I just been driving it like this but weird thing is it will mess up then all of sudden start running normal like nothing ever happen then month later mess up and run normal again can you give me advice I thought it was a lose connection because head lights flicker when this problem happens
Its a 2015 jeep patriot 4×4
Of the lights are flickering it sounds like an electrical issue. You may need to clean the terminals on the battery and tighten them down. There could be a fuse that is broken but not totally broken. There are also grounding cables that may have corrosión on them and need to be removed and cleaned with a wire brush. It’s really hard to say, wish I could help more but it’s not something that either our 2014 or 2015 has had issues with. Doesn’t sound like a throttle body issue though.
Thank you sir I will do that in the morning after work I appreciate you getting back to Omar
You don't have to replace them just clean them first with carb cleaner if that doesn't work replace it 9 out of ten times there just dirty and the flap want open all the way that puts it in limo mode
Sometimes it can also be a loose connector.
now I have another jeep.2016.same problem.dealer told it cost $413.00 to fix it.2 1/2 labor hours.$279.30 cents for the part.throttle body unit.
Hey OMAR, or anyone else, can you get me some advice, I'm thinking I have to replace this part. I have a 2014 jeep patriot, on the way to work this morning the lightning bolt light came on, and the traction control and no matter how much gas I gave, it only crept along about 5 MPH barely making up a small hill. Just left from work and again, half way home, which is only about 5 miles away it happened again.. so for a few minutes everything is fine, even if I turn the car off, turn it back on.. I can give it gas, but a few minutes driving it happens again.. is it this part? The throttle body? Is that what was happening to yours? I looked on oriley auto parts and they had it listed for $250 but amazon has one for $75
how much was the one you got from amazon? Thank you in advance to anyone that can give me some advice
The one I used is in the description for the video. It was around $70.
@@OmarsGarage I asked the question in a jeep forum and someone said they didn't think the part was plug and play, that some relearning might need to be done.. yours was plug and play just fine right? once hooked up you was good to go? also, did you have anything happen like power windows not wanting to roll up before the throttle body went bad?
Everything else on the car was working fine. I think input the relearn procedure in the description which is something like depressing the gas pedal several times. I didn’t have to do anything but I did have a drive it for a while before all the errors dosappeared
@@OmarsGarage sorry about that, I didn't read the description like an idiot :P haha thanx man
Hi, just watched your video thanks on making this video. any update after 2 years? My 2014 jeep started having this problem
The car hasn’t had any issues whatsoever after changing the throttle body. I recently changed the spark plugs, air filter, amd cabin air filter. I have videos on my channel for all of those. Thanks for comment 👍
@@OmarsGarage just fixed today and my jeep start to runs like a champ again! Thanks!
That’s awesome. Glad I helped solve that headache 👍
that clip on my compass is right by the throttle body housing and it is hard to disconnect.
that clip is pain in the ass to disconnect
@ 6:19 you used a removal tool to detach the cable. Do you remember what you used specifically?
I think you are referring to the plastic plug that holds it in place. I used something similar to this Tresalto Auto Trim Removal Tool Kit, Set of 5 Pcs www.amazon.com/dp/B01L8GHB7O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_RVb.CbEADPVAK I have a set like this one. Some needle nose plyers would also work.
Thanks dude. Not looking forward to this. This video will save people thousands
white male with about 100,000 views on this video it could be into the hundred thousands.
Thanks for fixing Grandmas car!
You're welcome :)
How are you man. I have this problem now. Driving down the fwy and boom the 2014 patriot didn't accelerate had to pull over. But the only lights that came up were the lightning bolt and check engine. Why would this come up? I assumed its because I had the car loaded with ppl and AC running uphill on the 15 towards LA from Las vegas.
Did it just have reduced power or not accelerate at all? Did the problem go away once you turned off and restarted the car?
@@OmarsGarage the car wouldn't accelerate anymore , and yes I turned it off and 5 mins later i tried again and the lights were gone and I was able to make it home.
@@jayjaymerging2659 that could have been it. It happens on amd off when it starts to fail. Could just be a dirty throttle body as well. The switch on the gas peddle could also be going bad. Could be many different things. The throttle body is a very common failure on these cars though.
@@OmarsGarage awesome thanks ill try to clean it and see if it happens again , might as well just replace it. How is the one you replaced doing? Its not the OEM right? Just wondering if its ok to buy aftermarket. Thanks for all the info sir I appreciate 🙏 your time.
@@jayjaymerging2659 I put the link in the description to the aftermarket one I used. Like $60. No problems in over 3 years since I’ve replaced it.
How do you reset the computer? I changed the throttle body but it is not working? Could another sensor be out? Mine is a 2014 Jeep Patriot as well
It could be. To reset the computer you can disconnect the negative battery terminal for about thirty minutes.
Exact same thing is happening to mine gonna order the part Friday and give it a shot.. thanks for the video
Michael Dee thanks for the subscribe. Keep me updated on if this works for you.
Omar's Garage yeah getting it Friday. So I'll give it a shot and save $$
Michael Dee same problem here. I swapped the parts earlier today. So far so good! Hope it works out for you too
Elwood Madison yeah ordered the throttle body on Amazon today will be here on Friday. I'm glad it's working out for you man. Keep me updated
Awesome!
What were the symtoms of bad throttle body? thankyou
Here’s a video showing the symptoms Diagnosing a bad throttle body. Limp Mode Chrysler Jeep Patriot
th-cam.com/video/bfgw-UeSP34/w-d-xo.html
Hey Omar I had this issue with my Jeep the Firestone said my camshaft sensor could be the issue and replaced it with no check engine light on and then my car stalled while driving I took it to the Jeep dealer and now waiting to see the check Engine light came on. So I’m hoping they can fix it
Are you also getting the lightning bolt looking light..it’s actually a throttle but looks like a bolt. I think I was also getting a traction control light.
Omar's Garage I didn’t get the light night but the traction control and eng light went on and after an hour it would start again but has happened repeatedly
Omar's Garage also not sure if it matters but mine is a standard
I would try cleaning the throttle body first. But wait and see what the engine code is.
Question: Does the gasket need to be "wet" to seal or can it go in dry?
If wet, what to use?
It’s only air coming through this hose so I put it in dry. That’s just my opinion though and it has worked for me.
@@OmarsGarageThank you very much, especially for getting back to me so quick.
Once I get the official read out on the errors to confirm this is my problem, I'll be using this video.
2010 jeep patriot when first purchased car had voltage light come on while driving car would go into limp mode and die completely. Turns out needed a more powerful alternator had it replaced and problem gone....1 year later had battery light come on checked terminals for corrosion and fuse box.for shorts....after parking overnight had to jumo car to start and brought to autozone mechanic said battery no good ...purchased new battery good for 3 or 4 days and car again had battery light come on and limp.mode then die. Brought car to mechanic and replaced alternator again. After replacing alternator the compressor went same day so brought car to dealership. They replaced the ac compressor and checked the alternator car was ok. 1 week later car had battery light come on again and died again. Figured the first battery was bad and the second battery was ruined while it died twice and alternator replaced so now I am on my third battery and 10 min after having it replaced the battery light came on again so brought car home and parked it b4 draining the battery , I am at a lose what the hell do I do now!? Plz help
It could be several things. If the compressor went bad you may have a bad ground that is causing issues. Sometimes the ground will get corrosion. You have to remove and clean with a wire brush and reinstall. Here is a thread I found with a lot of good advice www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/17-electrical-audio/288505-persistent-battery-rundown.html#/topics/288505
Can you replace the intake and throttle body on my car check engine light stays on what do you think it is
Have you had it scanned with an obdii scanner?
2008 Jeep Liberty here, electronic throttle body , have the same issue but was told to just replace IAC, should I replace the whole thing? Throttle body? And does it need to be “re programmed”? Thanks man
From what I know, the IAC is built into the throttle body. Not sure if you can replace just the IAC. To me it’s worth just replacing the whole thing, knowing that it’s a part that fails in most of these cars. I didn’t reprogram mine. Just disconnected the computer for a while. The check engine light was on when I restarted the car, but went away after about 15 miles of driving.
Omar's Garage if I just disconnect the battery will it be fine ? Not sure how to disconnect the computer or if I need to, but thanks I’ll probably just replace while throttle
Jesse Ortega either you disconnect the battery to reset the computer or you use an OBDII scan tool. The computer is not meant to be disconnected.
The shop is telling me they'd have to do an ecu relearn procedure if they replace the throttle body. Is there a way around it?
I didn’t have to do it on mine...just drove it around and it reset itself after about 30 minutes of driving. I think this is the procedure though:
Try this first. 1). Turn ignition to Run, but do not start engine.
2). Wait for all the error lights to turn on.
3). Over the course of 15 seconds, slowly depress the throttle all the way to the floor. Try not to waver or be too jerky, just a nice slow, smooth push.
4). Over the next 15 seconds, slowly let the throttle out in the same manner.
5.)Start car and drive as you normally would.
I never did that so I can’t vouch for it.
What is limp mode? I'm watching this video because my 14 Patriot died after a lightning bolt and ABS symbol appeared. It wont start...wont go into gear. When I turn the key. Thankfully it died one night in the driveway right after I got home. No warning, just dead
Cosmic Head that could be your battery or alternator. Limp mode is when the car reduced power to avoid damaging the engine, but still allows you to drive the car at a very low speed. I actually just changed the battery on this Jeep Patriot and will be uploading the video shortly.
Thanks! I’ll try to fix it by myself, I’m getting sick of
give all my money to the mechanics. By the way this was my worse purchase! Everything is wrong with this useless suv.
Laura Vences sorry to hear about all your troubles, but I hope this helps you get back on the road and save some money. 👍
Ridiculous for a car to sputter and cut off at 20k-40k miles!
I need some friendly expertise, I'm a fellow 2014 jeep Patriot owner. I am having the exact same issues but they started while it was raining so I thought maybe a little water shorted the circuit and once it dried it might be fine. I was wrong, so I plugged in my OBD2 and got two codes both reading U0401 and they both told me error reading codes. So I tried a neighbors and it did the same thing. Could this issue with the throttle body cause the codes to come up as just errors? Suggestions? The parts featured are fairly inexpensive when you compare to the $600-$1000 quote from a mechanic shop. And truthfully I plan on trading this jeep in after I get it fixed, but any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Try this first,
1). Turn ignition to Run, but do not start engine.
2). Wait for all lights to turn off.
3). Over the course of 15 seconds, slowly depress the throttle all the way to the floor.
4). Over the next 15 seconds, slowly let the throttle out in the same manner.
5.) Start car and drive around for a bit.
..
If that doesn’t work, get the part from the library o in the description amd replace the throttle body to see if that’s the issue. It’s not that expensive and not difficult to replace. Let us k ow how it turns out.
@@OmarsGarage the new throttle body just came in this morning and I finished installing it not too long after. The jeep now runs great! All the lights on the dash went away after I started driving, thanks for all your help Omar!
That’s awesome, thanks for the update 👍
Do the car jerks when changing drive to reverse or parking to reverse or drive?
Not that I ever noticed.
Dude you saved over 400 thank you
