Described by director Jacques Demy as 'a film in song', the visually intoxicating THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG pays homage to the Hollywood musical in this masterpiece of French New Wave cinema.
Guy Foucher (Nino Castelnuovo), a 20-year-old French auto mechanic, has fallen in love with 17-year-old Geneviève Emery (Catherine Deneuve: Belle de Jour), an employee in her widowed mother's chic but financially embattled umbrella shop. On the evening before Guy is to leave for a two-year tour of combat in Algeria, the pair share a passionate night. Geneviève becomes pregnant and then must choose between waiting for Guy's return or accepting an attractive offer of marriage from a wealthy diamond merchant (Marc Michel: Lola).
The film was scored by legendary composer and three time Oscar winner Michel Legrand, who went onto work on films such as The Thomas Crown Affair, The Go-Between and Yentl. THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1964 and the newly restored version premiered in Cannes Classics in 2013.

C'est ce que je reproche à notre époque moderne et son monde totalement numérique : Priver ainsi le grand public de ce chef-d'oeuvre du cinéma français qui, en plus de sa particularité d'être entièrement chanté, nous offre l'un des plus beaux répertoires musical de la chanson française. Cette comédie musicale est un véritable chef d'oeuvre, la fierté de notre patrimoine cinématographique ainsi que musical ❤

Color is not the only task for saving all moments of the masterpiece . The most impressive and is The December 63 .. i am very upset by cutting some moments .. i managed to make Some photos which later one can’t see .. Who ever has taste for real art would never ever missed such masterpieces ...i still hope that old film the end - December 63 still safe ??
I am very disappointed by cutting off some the most sophisticated moment at the duet in the most end of this masterpease..
I had happy opportunity to watch them just before new fresh color ..
Acters wark very delicate, very impressive and very talanted ever! Mostly the play by Guy in these pictures.
I try to see the whole scene , but can' t find.. I need to see every small emotion of the outstanding actor.. Plese! Let me opportunity to see full last pictures-.at office!
You cut in the end of film and just ruined the best parts of the brilliant work by outstanding acters
