About 4 years ago I was camping with friends on Skaneateles Lake, NY - and on the 4th of July we were partying on the shore of the lake and this boat came by with a loudspeaker and this was the song that was playing - it was a great night and a great memory and the added bonus was I knew the song from oh so long ago. Fireworks capped off the night. For some reason I often think of that night. Many lakes/towns in upstate NY are named after Native American origins - Skaneateles is pronounced Skinny At Alas - all blended together quick. Fantastic singer Nat King Cole. I remember this song was on the car radio when I was a kid, shortly after he passed. It was a family day trip up to the mountains and my dad saying it was a shame that Cole was gone, he had such a distinctive voice.
Wow!!! No song reminds me more of Summers & BBQ’s in about 1960 than this one, so I came here to hear it, & lo & behold i run into my son (in the summer of ‘24) Ah…. Some really happy memories! Thanks Austin!💕
Love this song. I play it often between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Whenever I do, it's like I'm back in the wonderful summers of my youth. Back then, summer was a treat - three months of relaxation, TV and yes, sometimes utter boredom between school years. Still, what I wouldn't give to go back.
Thsi Was one of the best male singers I have ever listened. His voice is cool to listen, and he always sang good songs. Too bad he is gone, I miss him.
@@garychambers5850 I remember... I was in 3rd grade... I walked home from school (just 2 blocks away), and Helen the crossing guard was sobbing. The mothers were waiting on their respective front lawns for their kid's early arrival home. Upon returning to school, we learned a new vocabulary word.... "assassination".
I feel that even for its time, this song was a throwback. It sounds like it belongs in the very early 20th century. It has a beautiful ragtime quality to it.
I was playing Uno on their app and got free coins if I watched an ad. The ad was for Walmart and this song was used for it. Had to look it up based on what they were singing because I've never heard it before. I love this song! Best ad I've ever gotten! Thanks for having it here 👍
Had the 45rpm and wore it to the bone.....now when i hear it today....i break down in joy...my sister introduced this song to me when i was only 5yrs old....and now im 62....RIP sis......and thank you....miss you still badly.
Released May 1963. I was twelve, going into seventh grade. I remember it so well. What a great, happy song. Little did I know that summer how deliriously happy I would be a few months later when The Beatles showed up. Especially 2/9/64. Thanks, Nat. My favorite singer, Chicago by way of Alabama. Some commercial now uses Lazy, Hazy. Have no idea what product is being foisted on us. So much for effective advertising. A waste of million$. But Nat and Lazy, Hazy should live forever. Got the itch to hear him sing "Stardust" right now. I think I will. Even Ramblin' Rose. Johnny Mathis pretty good, too. (He was influenced by the master, Nat).
I thought what was telling for all the glitz and glimmer displaying american culture in its finest is that Nat King Cole was the only black man in the shoot (the untold story of american hypocrisy). In saying that being born in London and as a small boy holidaying at Butlins (an English holiday theme park) this song would greet us every morning along with glorious English sunshine so I have very fond memories of it.
I grew to love the great man thanks to my late father always playing his songs. Dad has gone to join Nat now in paradise I hope they get to meet? He once saw Nat playing live, never forgot it. He always called me 'Nature Boy' when i was young I never knew until later life WHY that was..... one of Nats famous songs! Bless you Nat and Dad RIP to both of you I play this EVERY SUMMER in your honour. X
What a great song. Brings back memories of listening to this song on our local radio station on sweltering hot July days when I was a kid watching my Mom working around in the kitchen.
I know what you mean, Dave. Mum used to be doing the ironing, and us kids would be getting under her feet and lovely songs like this would be on the radio. By the way, all the best people are called "Dave"!
Only the BBC could do this to one of the best vocalists of his generation. I love his half hearted uke miming, and those backing singers!!!! Both glorious & ghastly at the same time.
That's really funny... I guess the Brits aren't into the "beach culture" like the Americans are. Instead, they conjure up a near post-Victorian garden party "at the manor" where someone in the "wait staff" entertains them with his uke. I remember this song played on the radio back in 63 while we were all ON THE WAY TO THE BEACH! Never in my wildest dreams could I have conjured up any of these images while hearing this song...(not a bikini in sight) ... :-)

If you were a fan of the Late Mr. Nat King Cole, you can here the change in his voice in this song. About 2 years (1965), Mr. Cole passed away, I believe from Laryngeal Cancer. At one time I thought Nat King Cole was the fairy tale king's name. My sister has a video tape of that. One of my parents used to say sometimes mistakenly "Sit down! Be quiet and put on Nat King Cole!"
One of the best summer songs I have ever heard along with that of Seals and Crofts "Summer Breeze." It really describes the nature of summer for most of us as we are on vacation and having fun under the warm sun. The heat if not overdone feels nice after the cold of the winter and the chill of April rains. And those long days are fabulous really. I remember in the sixties we me n used to wear thin ties about 1" or 1.25" wide as Nat does in the video and I still have two of them in my closed. Good memories.

You'll see more kissin' in the car than on the screen
