Thank you from all us apartment and house renters that cant take the AC units out of the walls or the windows!!

Thank you so very much for making this video. Obviously, the other people making cleaning videos for wall/window AC units don't live in apartments and haven't lived in apartments. I don't have access to garden hose or power washer, I can't remove it from the wall & I can't open it from the outside. I think that's the case with most renters in apartments. Considering the massive amount renters in this country you'd think more people would create content that was relevant to us. I truly appreciate that you filled this niche that was badly needed. Your video is everything and more that us wall ac units users needed. I guarantee you helped way more people than you think you did. You were so thorough and descriptive making it easy for everyone & anyone to understand. I'm now confident to start cleaning this very dirty AC thanks to your information and guidance.

I live in an apartment with a wal unit. Take it out and rinse it out with buckets of water. There is massive amounts of mold and dirt build up inside and where the fan unit it. Most of the harmful mold and dirt are on the outside fins, and inside where the fan unit it. This video is almost useless. I also do not have a hose, but you can still clean it and remove it. People are lazy.

What's great about the way you explained this is that you didn't just go "oh, just do this" and cut the camera to make it look easy. It's not hard to do, just labor intensive, but I like the fact you went slowly and spoke clearly. I have an LG LW6017R 6000 BTU unit and fater 5 years of neglect the unit was starting to short cycle. Figured it was something to do with the evaporator coils so I took the front cover off and it was grimy like yours.
It's amazing how simple these units are, yet they're fairly straightforward to disassemble yet people just dispose of these things like a one night stand. I'm not going to go outside and clean the thing like some videos show it, but something as simple as a yearly coil cleaning can keep the unit running for another good year or two. Thank you sir.

Thanks for making this so simple, clear and easy to follow. I was going to buy a new air conditioner because of the moldy smell coming from my window AC. Thank you for showing me how to do this without taking the unit out. My husband passed away recently and I'm surprised that he never cleaned out our window a/c units, a 10,000 BTU, an 8,000 BTU, and two old 5,000 BTU units. I can't take them out myself nor can I reach the biggest one. This will help me do some cleaning. I am reacting to the mold and need to get this done. The hot weather is here in the upper Midwest.

But a good vacuum hose and non bleach disinfectant wipes along with the foam cleaner did the job. Thanks for the video

It took me about 2 hours to clean my LG dual inverter 14,000BTU. I went ahead and took it out of the housing piece to clean out the inner back coils that are just behind the fan. It was really dirty after a year of buying it. Anyway, It was so worth it! My ac is cooling like new again!

Thanks again and may God bless you.

Most of the mold and dirt are in the middle of the unit behind the fan and in the outside fins. This video shows cleaning almost none of the stuff out that is actually making people sick. You need to use something to blow through the fins to clean or remove it. Even in an apartment you can remove the unit and wash it with a bucket, in your tub, etc. The mold and dirt is mostly on the other side.

Love this video. Thank you so much for helping those of us unable too clean our ac outside. Also thanks for showing us which parts are removable and how too safely clean our unit’s. And the products that are safe for cleaning.
3+ yes ago I moved into an apt that has a wall opening and panel. We’re not allowed to put an ac in any windowsill.
Bought a window ac and had it placed into the wall opening.
Within a week the brand new unit began smelling like a pile of dead fish ! And wasn’t operating as well.
This is despite the unit having been tilted as far as possible towards the outside.
A neighbor said the disgusting oder was because my unit wasn’t draining properly.
Well.. if you only knew everything I tried to improve the drainage and get rid of the oder 🤦‍♀️ Yet nothing seemed to work. I do have access to a hose but am unable too remove the unit from the wall.
Nevertheless I sprayed cleaners into the areas I could reach outside. And other times I made a mixture of cleaner and water in a milk jug. Poured the solution into the exterior of the ac unit, waited few mins. Then rinsed with the hose or jugs of water.
Even made extra drain holes but unless you make large holes then they’ll get plugged up quickly with bugs and debris. Doing the cleaning exterior would help reduce the stink but not fully and it would come right back !
That ac wouldn’t work at all this yr ! The blower motor fan wouldn’t run.
    So bought my second unit.
    First use was wonderful.
By the 3rd use it stunk too high heaven 🤮 and wasn’t cooling right. By now I wanted to scream !
I started searching for videos that might help.
I came across this video about drainage help.
Let me tell everyone, This really works and is incredibly easy.
You take a piece of gauge and carefully tuck one end of it all the way down into the drainage pan. Right at the back exterior end of your unit that sticks outside.
The other end of the gauge you drape over the exterior pan frame. Letting it hang an in or more over/ under the unit. The gauge soaks up the water in from the drainage pan and drips down the gauge portion that’s hanging outside of the pan frame.
    Immediate proper drainage !
They recommend in the video too change the gauge once a month. Replace it with fresh gauge.
As I type this lengthy comment my ac is running and draining properly thanks too the gauge.
I highly recommend trying this if you’re having drainage problems with your ac.
Lastly I viewed a video explaining everything about wall ac unit’s.
How they work. What each part function does and how to take them apart. Cleaning videos to.
But I’m still searching the cleaning videos and came across yours.
I’m unable too lift my unit and using a hose while it’s installed only soaks the inside of your home. No matter how careful you are.
So I thank you for providing those of us a step by step instructions for cleaning the ac while still installed.
Thanks for naming the cleaners and for responding to people who left you comments.
If you have any thoughts on the rapid dead fish oder that develops in my unit. I’d appreciate hearing them.
How can that rancid oder develop so quickly after only two uses ?
    What’s the cause ?
Mold? Or can dead mosquitoes cause that rancid dead fish oder ?
How the heck do I get rid of the oder and prevent it?
I’m an elderly lady with copd and cannot breathe in the humidity. I must have a proper functioning ac accessible. That doesn’t reek so badly that the rancid oder ends up inside my apt as well as outside.
I’m at a total loss what to do.

Mine is a wall unit that I'm sure dates back to the 20th century. That being said it isn't in the wall but in a very large window supported outside with a 2x4 frame from the ground up. It blasts cold air just fine but the thing just started acting up in that it won't stop cooling even when the temps inside and outside are down in the low 60's no matter how I set the thermostat. I cleaned the thermostat as best I can, now I'll watch you video to see how to clean between the fins. I keep the screen filter clean even though there isn't much left of it as it's plastic frame has been brittle for the last ten years and is slowly disintegrating.

    • @Rebel9668
      @Rebel9668 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@MrJustDIY Yep! Back to working fine again although as old as it's getting I think I'll retire it at the end of this season. Looks like it's going to be working hard if this week is any indication with temps in the upper 90's. Been thinking of getting one of those Midea brand ac units that you can nearly close the window with. They call them U shaped units. Figured if I got a 12,000 btu unit and installed it in the back window of the kitchen where it can blow through the kitchen and into the living room it would be more efficient than that wall unit in the side window as I have to use a separate blower floor fan to direct some of that cold air to the living room.

I have an older Haier manual window unit. I can't seem to get the front panel off. I don't have a manual for it and can't locate anything online either as it's too old. I've cleaned the GE model in my living room and had no issues getting the panel off. The Haier unit has a screw behind the filter which I've removed. The screws on the bottom sides are located a good 3 inches back from the front and don't look like they hold the front panel. I removed one of those to see if I could feel any release on that side, but there doesn't seem to be. On the few places I could read about any Haier ACs, they say to pull out and up from the bottom of the front panel. But mine doesn't budge. Any thoughts?

If been doing this for my small room ac for 3 year's and its ruinning like new. The more dust in tje coil the more th ac struggles to cool your room and the compressor will burn out. When cleaning, if you see the coil area turning blue, its clean.
