So many beautiful disses if you know the lore. Kim K called her a snake and sent all her fans after Taylor...Taylor takes the snake, makes it hers, owns it, and sells snake merch. Taylor really is a genius.
The dollar bill references a sexual assault charge she brought against a DJ in Denver who put his hand up her skirt during a photo op. The radio station investigated and fired the guy, so he sued her for millions. She countersued for a dollar and won her case.
All the haters managed to do was make her more powerful than ever
The more appropriate term is “Savage Taylor” vs. “Toxic Taylor.” I sure as hell do love Savage Taylor!! She lets you have it as she smiles & says, “bless your heart.” “Toxic” has really negative connotations attached to it & Taylor is anything but. We don’t call male rappers (e.g., Drake, Kendrick) toxic when they’re putting out diss track after diss track, so why must we label a woman who can also write scathing diss tracks “toxic?” There can be no double standard. And speaking of Taylor’s pen game, there’s a reason why the rapper Knox Hill describes her as “a battle rapper with a guitar.” People ought to know by now not to cross her because she’s “got a blank space, baby,” and she’ll “write your name!”

Taylor is a savage, so many Easter Eggs in this video. This was the first single from the Reputation album, she refused to do any interviews/press for this album and released this video. This was following a year of Taylor retreating from the public following the Kanye KimK edited phone call situation.

2. Grave stone Nils Sjoberg - Clavin Harris 0:30 background they were in a relationship, she wrote lyrics to his hit song with Rhianna, in an interview promoting that song he said he would never work with her, she got pissed they broke up and she killed the pen name.
3. Dollar bill - sexual assault lawsuit. 0:37 background an asshole DJ put his hand up her skirt and grabbed her (with witnesses) she spoke up, he was fired, HE sued her for getting him fired, she counter sued for $1 and won.
Bath tub full of diamonds. Remember when KimK got robbed at gun point in Paris…well she was in a bathtub and they stole all her jewelry.

Kim started the whole Taylor is a snake on Instagram and tried to cancel Tay. # Taylorisoverparty was number one world wide trend.

At the time they had a long standing beef. She's styled like Katy with same hair from Katy's diss track Swish Swish and she's holding one of her Grammy which Katy doesn't have.
6. Taylor's fight with streaming services - the industry 1:48
Taylor refused to let her music go to streaming services until artists received a better deal for their songs. Fun fact she finally released her music to streaming (once she got the deal she wanted) on the same day the Katy Perry released her album Witness
7. The phone call - Kanye & KimK 2:55
Kim K recorded and edited a phone call between Kanye and Taylor to make it look like Taylor approved of the lyrics in his song Famous...she did not. The unedited call was leaked years later and proved Taylor right.

The rows of models dressed exactly alike with Taylor standing in front, higher up, dressed in a black outfit is because the media and public started calling Taylor's friends "her squad." People were hating because a lot of them were supermodels, so it became a nasty joke that Taylor is the head of the group and that she only hangs around with beautiful, tall women. Those women are friends. It was just one more thing to add to the list of things to hate on Taylor for.

Same concept on the Eras Tour, except she puts them in museum display cases (like her I Can See You video). Thing is, she's been so successful for so long, they've been doing tour displays of costumes, instruments etc. for years: at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, and the Grammy Museum in LA. They generate a lot of traffic (and income) at the museums. Some of the dresses were worn to events (Met Gala, award shows or red carpets); people complained a lot when Taylor moved from country music to pop (the old Taylor is dead) The female artist's need to constantly re - invent is part of the message.
I'm 68 and took the dive into Swift this year to see what the fuss was about. You hit it at the end. This song is about Kanye and Kim's edited phone call that destroyed her reputation. There's only way to describe that. They "conspired" to destroy Swifts reputation and take her career down. That's why the headstone says "here lies Taylor Swifts reputation". For her entire career Swift had strived to be the "good girl". The phone call saying the old Taylor is dead is saying no more good good girl and she's hitting back now. At the end the multiple versions of Taylor are from through her career and videos along with her VMA where Kanye interupted her. The conversation between them I found hilarious. It's all things that have been done and said about her. "What's that bitch" answered by "don't call me that" is a reference to Kanye calling her a bitch in his song. Another great reference is one version saying to the version recording with her phone - "what are you doing"? "Getting the receipts, I'll edit this later". Another direct reference to what Kim did. That's just scratching the surface of all the Kanye/Kim references in this video.
I can't say this is among my favorite Swift songs. I've had "Out Of The Woods" stuck in my head since hearing it last week for the first time. I love it! But this music video, along with all the Kanye/Kim references in the lyrics, plus the Swift on Swift dialogue at the end is absolutely awesome. The good girl hit back hard.

This videos she is surrounded by diamonds. At the time Kim was constantly flashing jewelry worth millions of dollars on her social media. In Paris when she got robbed, they asked her for all of her diamonds and tied her wrists and made her get in the bathtub while they were robbing her. An hour before she was robbed she was showing off a ring worth over 5 million. Ki's hands weren't tied hard. She got out of then as soon as the robbers left. They told her they were just there for her jewelry.

The line about 'you said the gun was mine' was about Kanye saying she had the power to veto the use of her name in his song, but he did it anyway, calling her a bitch & Taylor was mad. Kim K released an edited version of the phone call with Kanye, making Taylor out to be a liar. She called Taylor a snake & the world turned on Taylor. She disappeared for a year & came back with her Reputation tour & a harder attitude. What they made her do, was become harder. No more innocent trusting Taylor. There are snakes in a lot of her stuff now. Taylor decided to lean into the BS about her, either owning it or making fun of it, like in 'Blank Space'.

Just fyi she was pretty savage even when she was still seemingly young and sweet lol. The songs she wrote about John Mayer, Jake Gylenhall, and Harry Styles are amazing with some great disses. And when she was really young she performed with Stevie Nicks and music critic wrote a particularly nasty review about her. Taylor wrote the song “Mean” about that critic and then it ended up winning a Grammy and performed it live there to a standing ovation. And you the know the intro of the reputation tour with all the different media people talking sh*t about her? Well she invited all of those media people to the concert and put them right up front lol

That represents the DJ who groped Taylor during a promotional appearance who got fired when Taylor reported what happened, then had the nerve to sue Taylor for millions of dollars. She countersued for one dollar, and she won a jury decision in the case.

Taylor uses her songs as cathartic art. In life we have to reinvent ourselves to grow and adapt. That is the official video. It is from Taylor's page. For some reason the captions for this video are only in Japanese. Some other creators haven't taken them off either. Maybe you can't, I am not sure. This video is EPIC! A lyric version would be a waste of time.
