This really helps me understand the impact of weaving and how the looms worked in the mills during the Industrial Revolution. I kinda can imagine a rhythm people would get into when working as a group and it set the tone for the mills.

These are the old wooden shuttles from the C & K looms used in the 50s and 60s. Also the CS loom. These looms were replaced at Burlington Industries in 1973. The wooden shuttles were replaced by 2.5 inch shuttles on the Sulzer loom..Some Sulzers used rapiers which were also on the Mav looms. It would be hard to even find these old looms today. We demolished ours. The old wooden shuttles were pushed across carrying the filling (weft) by picker sticks. Weaving was accomplished by the criss cross of the shuttle and the warp. This is a hand loom she's using. The older looms were of course electric and much faster. In the 19th century, steam power was used. The Burlington Industries plant I worked at was over 100 years old. The stream of water was still running under the building..And there were pictures of the old steam belt driven looms. The old water towers are still standing also. Steam driven turbines turned a huge wheel that was mounted on a shaft. This shaft would power about 20 looms. Stopping one loom was tedious and dangerous. No safety Shields and Weaver's lost fingers when the loom started up on it's own. With electricity, each loom had it's own stop button. Electric looms were around as early as 1900. Turbines mounted in a healthy stream turned and created electricity. This concept wasn't used for homes until 20 years later.

@@demonsluger Looms are still in use in England and of course third world countries.. Mexico still has Mills..As for future generations, they simply import cloth and probably wouldn't understand what I was even talking about. I see people on here wanting to buy looms but where they are from, I don't know. Over the 25 years I worked on looms , we had the C and K ( Crompton and Knowles) looms CS ( updated version of same) and several versions of the Sulzer looms . Only one textile mill exists in the US now that I know of and it makes carpet..The cloth making looms all went to other countries because of greedy manufacturing. The balance was lost and overseas denim and cloth were cheaper and more profit could be made by importing cloth. Greed killed a 150 year old industry that was the backbone of the south and plants were also up north.. Our economy hasn't been the same since 2000 and greed and paying people to not produce cloth and even food is an example of what we have for a government today. Name one industry that doesn't use computers or AI today. You can't. It's all keyboards and the few farmers are the only ones still trying to make a living the old way. Of course emergency services are necessary and computer technology is useful there but all the hands on labor is done by immigrants contracted out to do the real work.
I wanted to see the shuttle in first plane when moving so i can understand it, is a shame nobody seems to show that part.

Precisely the verse that got me looking to see one in action today.
Flying shuttles didn't exist back then. The shuttles were passed back and forth by hand (which limited the width of the weave) so they didn't move nearly as fast.
Furthermore, it seems like the word "shuttle" was an invention of the translator:

this is wonderful to me. humans have created so many ingenious things. its cool to think about all of the creativity that led to the creation of this device&method, which was surely an improvement on an earlier technology, which improved on an even earlier technology...all the way until you get back to like....monkeys banging on plants or covering their bodies with soft grasses.
