The reason why these engines go out quickly is because people don't change their oil when they need too. Maintenance is VERY important on ANY turbocharged engine, because the turbo needs good quality oil to last a long time. If a turbo spins up with dirty oil, it wears out the bearing that spins the blade, and it overheats the turbo causing it to crack. My advice is to change the oil at 4-5k miles. It's not just the Cruze that has problems, it's other vehicles that have a turbo. Some people are too lazy or not knowledgeable to change the oil. But at least with the Cruze, a brand-new replacement turbocharger costs $250. Most other cars costs $500+ just for the turbo. It's really simple to replace the turbo by yourself on a Cruze.
Great video guys. As stated in previous videos, the crack in the turbo is a very common failure. The turbos aren't very reliable. I have a sonic with 160,000 miles with manual. Seems to be good still.
Nice. Love how easy the cruze is to work on. I think I may have a cracked engine block. If I do I'm just gonna buy a new engine, an engine hoist and swap it over.
i;am your newest subscriber great videos i won a 2011 chevy 6 speed manual cruze 2750.00 runs and drives rustfree florida car 3 owners i did car fax most of the maintance was done at the chevy dealership, i got a great deal
My daughter has a 2016 Trax and the turbo self destructed at 58k. Dealer covered it as warranty expired at 60k. Those cracks are very common on that tiny turbo.
Yeah mine did the same thing 2015 but I didn't have the warranty the turbo was 900 bucks from the dealer but was an super easy part to replace at 140k miles I have about 180k now and thinking about just replacing the motor even though ited prolly run well into the 200s
I got a 2014 Chevy cruze 1.4 turbo and the motor was blown so I got a used one that came out of a buick encore & on the balancer and water pump has it has 5 splines on the pulleys but on the cruze it has 4 splines would it still be fine? I have no choice but to use a 4 spline drive belt for now unless otherwise if that makes sense I’m hesitant on putting the Cruze balancer on the buick motor because it’s a 40,000 mile motor
Just replaced the motor and installed the new one but the car won’t crack all the way . We first checked the spark plugs and they were worn out so we changed it. We checked the gas and it was bad colorization dark color . Changed the gas. It still does the same thing does not crack all the way
Yep I got to do the same thing for a car just bought seller said it was a bad water pump engine won't even turn over, look like once the wires are out the way nothing too it
Hello friend, I would love for you to give me your opinion, here in Brazil we have the Chevrolet CRUZE, with an ECOTEC 1.8 engine, I hear many complaints about this engine, such as failure in fuel injectors, causing hydraulic shim, breaking pistons and bending the pistons. connecting rods, another problem is the camshaft pulleys that cause a lot of problems, here in Brazil the components of this engine are very expensive. would you recommend me to buy this car? I have many doubts and would like to hear your opinion, thank you very much !!!
Only real issues I found was the turbo and the emissions from the PC built into the valve cover and the rear intake has a valve in it then the oil cooler housing will leak alot but other than that these are some reliable cheap cars
One thing that kills me on this video when they first started the motor it sounded beautiful did anybody realize how high the RPMs were when they were wearing the crap out of it take a listen at the end of the video you'll hear it Knocking they destroyed the motor by revving the s*** out of it
insane video. Burn off all the smoking gunk ?? lol :)) WOW. You had the engine... you could have cleaned it to perfection. Someone is gonna appreciate 4000 rpm until the cat glows orange... i bet this person will get a p0420

Good to see this done without a hoist! Now I won't be sacred to try one if I ever purchase a project like this!
My 2011 Cruze Eco 6 speed manual transmission has 189,000 miles....still going strong 34.5 mpg all day long on Michelin CC2
One can only wonder why GM designed this engine to be removed so easily.
It came from Korea when GM bought Daewoo
It’s not a bad engine as long as you keep up on routine maintenance
@@maxwellbolzman7077 they are bad engines

That crack is very normal on 1.4l turbos!!! I’m not saying it’s good just normal 👍🇺🇸
Even though the wire harness has been removed its still on a trash can!

Why do you have to replace the engine ? What was wrong with it ? I’m asking because I may have to do the same with me
Did you have any issues with the rear bottom trans bolt area bot being flush eoth the engine?
How long does this process take without taking a break
What happened to the old engine Daniel?
He said coolant went through the turbo. Can only assume head gasket
@@benturner4774 ahh that explains it too much pressure in that tiny engine

Will this engine directly fit into diesel cruze 2.0
Most disappointing engine I have owned to date. constant oil leaks and mis-fires.
Those OEM Turbos on those 1.4 motors are known for having those crakes. There are service bulletins on them.
Where does the ground from the ECM harness go by the battery
Did you have a hell of a time getting that transmission off?

Probably a local junkyard

Sucks the gen 1 gave the Cruze a bad name and then cancelled it because the gen 2 is actually reliable lmao
Where u get replacement from
Please how can I buy a good engine, mine got bad (writing from Nigeria)
What happen to your fusion?
My parents drove half way around Australia with a blown motor just kepted the water up
I forgot what the reason was for replacement?
Cracked cylinder head leaking coolant into cylinder 1 hydro locking the engine.

Where’s the duel mass flywheel on the vw video???
It’s coming soon, only 2k more miles to go before a lot of work gets done.
True story. That little itty bitty turbo blew out my engine
Why bother replacing the engine? Just send the whole thing to the crusher, the smart move 😉😁
Then he wouldn’t make any money charging labor to replace the engine.
Would avoid a lot of future headaches!
It was only a oil cooler gasket letting coolant in the oil.. 😟 both insurance and the lady got ripped off
