  • Injection molding is just one of the ways plastic products are made. In this video, we go over the ways your products might be manufactured and the pros and cons of each.
    The processes discussed are...
    Blow Molding, Extrusion, Injection Molding, Compression, Rotational Molding and Thermoforming

    I'm working with the local civil protection director to make a prototype of a torpedo style rescue floatation device to be donated and mounted on natural wood posts at our most historically dangerous beaches.
    These torpedoes are abusively priced ($150 USD), not available locally here in México and not available in all-natural materials but I'm working to change that.
    We need a local bioplastics supplier with materials well suited for this purpose with sheet plastic that can be manually heat-formed over a mold. And for a much larger scale impact, we need an estimate of the cost of mold that could be used with recycled plastics, bioplastics and biodegradable plastics also to injection mold them for us. If we can raise the funds to pay for the mold ourselves, the devices can be relatively very inexpensive which will make them very accessible and help save lives everywhere they're used.

    This was shockingly useful, engaging, and interesting. Thanks so much! Quick question, so for blown mold products like hospital/tattoo/safety wash bottles, can you estimate the production cost at scale per unit and why then why some of these items are on Amazon or Walmart retailing at $5-$11 per unit? I'm just trying get a feeling of the markup. Also, would you know how much injection molding is done domestically (North America, I'm in the US but as one of our wonderful neighbors to the north I''d imagine it's similar). Thanks if you give any answers but if not, great vid and best of luck!

    We looking to marble looking blending color patterns for dental retainer case. What kind of mode do we need and how to blend the color in the way that one desire?

    • @plasticman3952
      @plasticman3952 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We used a product called Play Colors. Each different color pellet melts at slightly different temps. When injected into the mold the colors stay separated. resulting in a marbled appearance. Used for poly plastics

    If I post a photo of a plastic object that exists apparently only in China, would you be able to choose an economical method to reproduce it in volume?

  • @VneckPolitics
    @VneckPolitics ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is there a plastic manufacturing method that can successfully produce plastic parts and structures that were created through generative design? I'm talking specifically about the organic 3D structures that are light weight and very strong. Are these shapes too complex for traditional plastic manufacturing?

    • @PlasconPlastics
      @PlasconPlastics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Currently, no. Other than 3D printing there is no way to get those shapes into mass market.

    Great video. But I guess I'm one step too far. Where do the molds come from and how are they made? I have an idea that would be a similar to a dental flosser but for a completely different application, I'm not sure it would work but if it did work, a billion units would be sold. I know this, it's not in existence yet. I have no patent, I have nothing but an idea. I know you could make it but how it would work remains to be seen!
