To me, Jolivet is the single most underappreciated composer of the 20th century. Much more interesting and imaginative than Ravel (even if of course Jolivet was 20 years younger).
Richard Strausse often filled his sketch book on top of a mountain, a local one he used to climb. But someone said to meL ;you MIDI composers are a bit screwed when it comes to inspiration - where are you going to plug your laptop in on top of a mountain?' To which the reply is batteries last longer nowadays, I guess I will have to take my smart phone with me! But notation writing is more organic! I knew of one composer who wrote an entire song whilst stuck in a grid lock on the London North Circular!!
Does anyone know the piece that played at the start? Apologies in advance if it's a really well-known piece, and this is akin to asking to identify Fur Elise, or Moonlight Sonata or something, haha.
Thank you for your time & attention in creating this, a wonderful composer!
Beautiful interview of the daughter of à great composer who inspires me a lot ! Thank you ! 🙏 ❤️
