Honestly, this is a box for people who usually just watch their BluRay rips, if you are going to watch shitty netflix quality, a much cheaper alternativ will do just fine.
Netflix is probably one of the last things someone interested in buying is thinking about this product is best for someone looking to play all their 4k blu ray and keep it on one device while keeping all the extra benefits blu rays come with like Dolby vision Dolby Atmos hdr10+ shit like that. With that being said their next version of this should include some android tv interface would open it to more customers and would be good competitor to a the nvida shield

I've been looking into getting the Zidoo Z9X Pro but now watching this review this throws another option into the mix. Comparing these two which one would you prefer?
I like Zidoo Z9X Pro, gives great picture and sound, has a good app too
the Dune HD Pro One 8K Plus has upgraded hardware and 2.5" HDD/SSD internal slot (up to 5TB) compared to Zidoo Z9X Pro but the Z9X is cheaper and supports HDD up 16TB but only externally though, also for the features I think it depends on the person's preference
400 Dollars for a Device that DOESN'T Officially Support 4K Streaming Services.
Yes, the Amlogic S928x is a Powerful chipset. And the NAS facility is good to have. BUT That doesn't justify the Insane Pricing.
Drop it to NVIDIA Shield PRO level, and perhaps Then people will see value in a powerful Android TV Box with inbuilt NAS Bay.
While it IS 'compatible' with Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL, it doesnt handle it properly - it fakes the TV led mode, and does not use the secondary video layer. Also be aware this a Russian product from Russia.
Yup, this device is not the best choice if you care about picture quality. Buy an Ugoos am6b plus instead, install coreelec on it, and save yourself 100-200 Euro. You'll get full Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL support that way.
Good review! In my experience the Dune has top notch image quality for my 4k iso files and loads of options for displaying lower quality files. Haven't found any sollution that makes that usecase so easy. However, I wish the user interface was a little more sexy, like jellyfin or something. Also, navigating TV show episodes requires a lot of clicking. Especially when they are all still on iso files.
Hey, really appreciate your videos. I currently have both an Nvidia Shield for streaming and a Zidoo Z9XPro for local playback through NAS. You think it's worth it to switch to this one? Is the updated chip noticeably better?

The amlogic soc has superior video quality to the realtek on older zidoos. Luckily Zidoo now offers a Z9X 8K version with this chipset. I had the original Z9x, recently got the pro to compare to this new Dune and the Dune has the edge in PQ over even the updated Realtek. Neither of these players are quite Oppo 205 or Pioneer LX800 pq wise but they are the next closest thing. Zidoos interface is superior to Dunes in most areas, Dune better in others. The Linux based Dune is much snappier in navigation and button response time though, but getting a Zidoo to find your network folders is much easier.
Please issue a correction, this device does NOT properly handle DV Profile 7 FEL. Please be more careful in what you state in your videos. A lot of people rely on them.
I don't see anything here to justify the price or that would tempt me to replace my Apple TV. Or even my Nvidia Shield.
Apple TV with Infuse Pro is great and cheap! Only drawback you can't do DV and Atmos metadata.
@@tommyricknell2829So you are confirming this unit then properly handles TrueHd Atmos and DTSX. Also does it not handle DV MKV files? I was a little confused on it needing ISOs.
Great device and replacement for my zappiti Neo. Had some startup problems, but now everything works great. Very happy with it and for Netflix i use my sony bravia tv, no problem..
I will say zidoo, actually displaying the video and audio format and being able to toggle better the versions. Is better than being prompted to pic the file. But that is just me

Had both. Zidoo is better. Get the Zidoo Z9X 8K. It has a much better UI and is cheaper.

I have an older HD Solo 4K and on the one time I tried playing an ISO file, it locked up part way through the movie and had to be power cycled to recover. I'm using a Synology NAS and I was wondering if it would work better on ISO files if played from the onboard disc via SATA. Thoughts on this? Maybe treat it like a Kaleidescape, just keep a few movies on the limited onboard drive and keep everything else on your own storage bank...instead of Kaleidescape's servers.
Speaking of the Synology NAS, why is it sitting there, "zit, zit, zit,..." constantly as though it's constantly reading or writing something. It just sits there 24/7 making noise when it shouldn't be doing anything. I have Plex on it but best I can tell I don't have it constantly scanning the library, not sure what else could be causing that.
I also have an older 4K Zidoo, but have no experience with it yet other than some doing it wrong when I first got it a year or so ago. If I decide to get a new 8K Dune or Zidoo, just one or the other, which one would you suggest? I like the looks of this new Dune Max for $799.
"NVIDIA Shield is a tried and true solution" What??? Maybe try power cycling it every time you want to use it and hope it works. Hope it doesn't play two songs at once when listening to music, well they have apparently fixed that one. To use it for movies or anything else for that matter, first power cycle it. If you switch your processor to another source and back to the NVIDIA, you probably have to power cycle it again, otherwise it just won't work. Turning it on/off doesn't work, you have to pull the power cord. Both the upstairs and the downstairs NVIDIA have this same problem. Both are connected to Marantz processors. If Dune and Zidoo can't do online streaming services like Netflix I probably have to keep a Roku for that, at least it works reliably.

what's the cheapest soluion for 4k iso rips played with full menu support please?
Can you point me in the right direction to an external blu-ray writer, that would allow me to rip, copy, or convert my 4k movies to my hard drive, and works straight out of the box? Any help would be appreciated.
4K discs have protection against being copied, so a blu-ray writer right out of the box won't work. You'll have to buy a blu-ray writer that has special firmware installed. Your best bet is ebay.
TwoGuysTech has done videos here that tell you everything you need. They recommended an LG external blu-ray player. I can confirm it works.

ok. 64gb is nice, but what if you have a 100tb library, where does all the metadata go? internal storage? that 64gb is gonna fill sooner rather than later. can you point the device to that hdd/ssd and tell it to stora metadata there? also, does kodi run on dune hd? or is it pointless to install kodi since dune has its own scraper etc and library functions? thanks.

I’d like to see you compare this Dune model to the R.volution 4k PlayerOne Mini that will be release next month. Same chipset on both. How they handle ISOs and BDMWs with menus would be interesting to see.

Do you know if these players play DTS MA bitstream audio? That r.volution package seems to look less “vintage” as he calls it. Hopefully the price is competitive as this chipset seems much better than the zidoo players currently available.

Well a Seagate 2.5" ST5000LM000 Barracuda Seagate 5TB 2.5 128MB SATA Hard Drive doesn't fit in the stupid HD bay so I not only wasted $620 buying this crap, I also wasted $250 on the drive. NOT impressed. Back to the Zidoo for me. An expensive exercise and a waste of money for an expensive doorstop.
I'd rather just run an Apple TV with Infuse hooked up to Jellyfin.
It's a great combo, but it also means no Dolby Vision, no lossless Dolby Atmos, no Blu-Ray menus.
Extremely disappointed in any modern TH-cam video where there are no chapters available.
If they're charging $400 for this they better hire someone with UI/UX design. This shit looks ugly and reminds me those horribly designed XBMC/Kodi addons.
I'm curious, what is the upsell vs WebOs, AppleTV 4k or Roku? Is it merely that this supports 4K video? Maybe I am missing something here. It merely looks like a replacement of one of those units. Ok it has a hard drive. Please help me understand the madness.
You should use the built in apps on your tv for best comparability for streaming unless it's so slow you can't handle it and an external device for files.
IT is not good for streaming, it s for playing local files, from a hdd or NAS. There are not many possibilities for playing local files with Dolby Vision (All profiles) and Dolby Atmos and DTS

@@andreasepp3952 Sorry I was not expecting it to do streaming. While I mentioned WebOS, AppleTV 4K or Roku, I was thinking about streaming through Jellyfin or Plex apps over my local WAN. For instance, I built out a Dell OptiPlex as my media server/NAS. I stream using Jellyfin to my AppleTV. Over 10 years ago, I had a device from I-O Data that would stream locally my rips of DVD's or downloads at the time from newsgroups. I used Giganews(surprised they still alive and kicking) at the time. All for testing purposes mind you. This sounds like the I-O Data device, albeit that this device streams 8K.
I don't understand the stupid people who work at these companies. This product shows no value over a certified google tv box for $100ish. Did they waste their money on silly Dolby crap?
My box just passes through everything to my AVR. Even my tv can process Dolby, but I don't want that, I want uncompressed, but not all software allows this.
I'm currently running a Mecool MK7 plus and it allows everything. 4k streaming Netflix, prime etc.
Also Kodi from the Play store, not sideloaded. Kodi is awesome I can use an external USB, NAS or shared from my PC. All snappy quick feedback, even in 4k. 4k HDR will have a half second delay while skipping in a movie playback. I've read that the shield is the only other product that can do all these things. Maybe the apple tv also.
From my understanding Kodi doesn't support Dolby Vision from an ISO file.
It's just not for you. It is a niche product indeed, but in no way it is comparable to a crappy google tv box for $100ish
